Would the sight picture be improoved due to the sights being just a few more inches from your eye? Basic physics show better sight picture SHOULD be achieved by getting further back behind the gun. I'm just guessing but it sounds good to me.

Is permit required for black powder pistol?
Mason replied to graywolf's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I do not have a clue. I looked up your question a few years back with no good answer. I wanted to carry but legally couldn't due to my age. I bought a flare gun and kept it under my truck seat untill I turned 21. -
I must strongly disagree with the above statement. I can name 10 or more quality gun shops within a half hour to 45 min. drive from Mahoney's. All of which have a fair selection, fair prices, and friendly/professional staff.

I face the door when I can. When dining in a multi-room establishment I like to view the largest portion of a room. I sleep close to the door. When walking along or crossing a street, I try to keep myself betweeen the traffic and my wife. She has commented that I do some strange things to protect her a few times. To me watching out for her is just habit I guess.

i thaught I posted here already? My dad got me a Marlin 795 and then told me how it was such a great deal so I bought two more for myself. Then I found an 870 Express with the three inch chamber for $250 and took it home. My father-in-law got me an ISSC M-22 pistol also! Five guns in less than three weeks!!! I guess I will have to sit January out and get the C&R broke in aroung vallentines day.

Why can't I see it???

For $400 you could easily find a used 2nd generation Glock, a new Rock Island or used Springfield 1911, Smith Sigma/SV, EAA Whitnes, Taurus 24/7, or any KelTec. If you were asking what I would do, I'd get a good .357 revolver from Taurus, Rossi, ect. if I wanted a carry gun. If I wanted a shooter I would drop my cash for a Rock Island 1911.

I have purchased about half of my long guns from Walmart in Bristol. Mr.Tim and Mrs. Billie are great to help you out. WM has the best prices on the guns they carry. If I find a long gun that I want I always go to WM and price shop based on the special order book that they hide under the register. The only time they were not the lowest price was when I found a Marlin 795 for $94. At Dicks. P.S. I grabed three of them Marlin rifles.

Make it legal to carry without permit: yes or no?
Mason replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you have the money to buy a gun (and are not prohibited to do so) you should be able to buy it. If you have a gun and want to carry it, I say go for it. I will reply to this when I am not sitting in a hunting blind and looking at TGO on my phone. -
I noticed that Dicks had them for &250. The next day I went by one of the local gun shops that I like & told them I had plans to go back to pick one up. I was told to pick one out and they would sell it for that price. I walked out the door with a new 870 express with 28" barrel and 3" chamber and the wood was a lot nicer than Dicks had. I am happy with the local shop & they told me they would price match anyone in the area.

JMB how do you like the front strap on that RIA? I just don't care for the looks of the finger grooves. Other than that it looks great.

Best C&R rifle for a weekend Shooter
Mason replied to Mason's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I received my C&R licence today. It will be a couple weeks before I place my first order but I am now in the club. -
That is a nice looking pistol and I can not think of another commander in that price range that I would rather have. The only flame I can come up with: You should show us the wood grips as well. But then again, I just love any 1911 with wood grips.

I had one follow me home once. I found it NIB on a trip to Nashville for $230 if I remenber correctly. My dad liked the feel so it is now his primary carry gun. It has been three years and I have never even shot the thing!

2006 HD 1200 Roadster here. Hugger Orange, 12,000 miles, and counting. I can't wait to sell it and my ski boat. Both are a blast to play with................ three months a year. This spring they are both going away and I am gonna buy a new safe and stock it.

If I have a need to "Bug Out" I will have a .22 LR semiauto rifle and a .45 ACP semiauto pistol with me. That is the very minimum for food and security. If we are talking short-term, I will also have eather a pump shotgun or a high powered rifle. As others have stated, my main goal is to get home and stay there in any type of emergency that does not consume my home. If my house is lost my first priority is to find a new home with basic shelter, stored food, security, and privacy. Many tools have alot more value than a gun in the long-run.

I stopped in and got a tour of shoters edge Last week. They are scheduled to open around the first of the year. The above posted prices are correct. It was by far the nicest indoor range I have ever seen and I have been in a few all over the country. With that being said, nice and fancy comes with a high price tag. I would be happy to go if someone wants to sign up and take me as a guest. I can not force myself to pay when I know so many folks around who own farms. Throwing hay bales once or twice a year is good for free range time for the next week or two at minimum.

Thank you for the comments everyone. After looking into it further I am gonna stick with my first idea. I am going to suspend the boxes with steel wire and wire staples I found in my old toolbox. two strands on wire will spand multiple joists. Most of the boxes will fit vertically and I will have room for about 3 boxes per space. I should not have problems with rodents if I keep the boxes away from the walls. Mice have trouble climbing vertical surfaces. If everything goes as planned I will be able to see the end of each box for the firearm discription and SN. A lot of times I leave things like shotgun plugs and rimfire scope rails in the boxes and need them later.

How and where do you store your long gun boxes? I have the origional cardbord boxes for most of my guns. I am dead set on keeping them around because I feel like they increase the value of the gun. When purchasing a rifle I am willing to pay a little more for the same rifle with a box. Anyway, I am going to my parents house this weekend to pick up "a few" boxes, a cun cabinet, some ammo, and a few boxes of clay targets. I have a place for all the other junk already. Should I stick the boxes on homemade racks between the floor joists in my basement? Come on with the ideas TGO?

Thank you for the advice jonnin.

Any guns I buy used will not have the numbers posted. This is due to the chance that they could be stolen or used in a criminal maner in the past. I do not want someone at my door arresting me for having stolen property or anything. The only reason I even care about this is because legal fees are so dang high. I would gladly return stolen property but I do not charged with anything during the process.

Dont tell anyone but I do like the Uncle Mikes #10 IWB that they threw in when I bought mine. It works great under a suit coat when I wear one. I pocket carry with jeans but It prints too much in slacks.

I hope to pick up a couple random C&R pistols in 9x18 when my licence comes. I want an old cheap gun to carry while on the tractors or lawn mower. I dislike getting dirt and grass in my .45 so if I can find something in the $100 range I'll buy three and designate one for "Farm Use" and see how it holds up.

I watch the show as well and got the feeling that it was no big deal. When I first tuned in I was thanking "man those rifles are pure junk." After watching for a while I remimbered that I have both a 700 and a 710 in the next room and I wave never had or been aware of any issues. The longer I watched the show the more it sounded like an anti gun news report. They never did give out any numbers or a percent of rifles that have malfunctioned. I understood that the rifles were fine out of the box and the problems only existed on rifles with owner modified triggers. It sounded to me like the owners were likely to blame in at least some of the reported malfunctions.
