I have a Springfield Mil Spec and i am very happy with it. That being said my brother bought an American Classic for about half and it is a very good shooting gun the only thing I did not like were the grips the workmanship on them did not match the rest of the gun it has a great blued finish he ordered another set of grips for it.

Just did a quick check of Gunbroker completed sells [what they actually sold for] $500.00- 750.00 seems to be the average range for that year and caliber combination. Is there any sentimental value to the gun? They are great little guns.

Long story short in May of 2006 I went blind in my left eye due to Multiple Sclerosis. I had been a left handed shooter both rifle and handgun all of my shooting life. Hand gun wasnt as big a deal to relearn but rifle was a whole other matter I am a deer hunter and love shooting so I knew I had to relearn so I went and got a crossman pump pellet rifle with a scope about this same time we became over run with chipmunks cute when you have one 30 not so much so I practiced on them solved two problems I am just as good a shot now as I was before chipmunks gone

Thanks but I think I will have to pass on your offer I probably never could find another at this price

Here is a picture after parts total cost $175.00 keep looking treasures are still to be found
-
Well unless you can break the rifle down and know what you are looking for you can't I look at the overall condition of the gun as a indicator military guns in particular are designed to run a very long time and are designed to have their parts changed without a lot of fuss I have and shoot guns all the way from a 1871 Mauser to modern stuff a little pitting doesn't hurt here is a gun that I shoot often

My apologies I did not wish to offend it is your gun to enjoy any way that you wish I know the advice you received is not what you expected there are several companies online that will offer what you want just do a search of gun refinishing
-
Now here is a worn gun but I still wouldn't refinish it. I know you stated you are not concerned about resale but I believe in years to come you will regret changing the P38. One question what do you plan to do with it after the refinish carry it or something else maybe that would help us to understand I would love to have that gun in my collection
-
As you have stated it is your gun and you can do anything to it but I wouldn't touch it. Can we see some pictures we love pictures
-
You did very well were you wearing a mask when you bought it.
-
Coldblackwind was it original or sporter I would like to see pictures
-
Those ones from Aim are most likely recovered drill rifles. Not necessarily a bad thing I have one that I put together and it shoots great but I wouldn't pay that much for one. I have about $375 in mine
-
Garufa Already got them on the way man was I excited my other k98 is a Russian capture never thought I would find a bring back that would be this close to complete and a such a great price almost felt guilty getting it that cheap.
-
K98 Mauser S/147 1937 it is missing its bayonet lug and front barrel band what is there matches its self bolt is different serial but it matches its self. No import stamps $140 also picked up a Camillus MK 2 USN knife it was a good day.

They are great guns tough as a tank I had one a few years ago the only thing I didn't like was the grip it shot great and never malfunctioned

Goodman's Gun Show this weekend @ Fairgrounds
Randy L replied to Grunt67's topic in Events and Gatherings
I had to work but I only work a few miles away so I went at lunch not much to see did buy a French 1936 MAS for $150 with a box of ammo to go with my other WWII rifles. Also got to hold a Johnson Automatic rifle from WWII very neat you don't see those every day. -
Dave Shooter is right lots of mil spec 1911s do this my Springfield does no big deal the sizing die will iron out the dents
-
Carter I would leave it alone you won't worry about shooting if you spent the money to get it redone you will be scared to get it out to the range plus if you ever had to sell you probably wouldn't recover the cost. As for the stainless vs blued if I were going to carry it all the time stainless would be the way to go.
-
Just my preference I like blued. Greg PM sent.
-
Been wanting a S&W 29 4inch blued wanted an older model not the new ones with the lock have been all over you would think with all the gun shops. pawn shops and gun shows I would have found something even if it was out of my price range but still nothing I wasn't looking for a safe queen just wanted to add to my collection can't have a gun collection without one I guess people aren't turning loose of them.
-
I have to agree with Garufa on this one too many good deals on unmolested ones right now maybe $125 if it was a really nice sporter job not just cutting off the stock. If you are thinking of restoring it that will cost more than it will be worth.

I just got back bought a Marlin 1994 44 mag for $325 as I was leaving
-
Here is my 100 yard target last one I fired today shot group on the left then made a final adjustment final group measures 3.25 inches the red bulls eye measures 4.75 I wonder what the best possible group would be for these guns does any one know.
-
Garufa yes it is my first M1 Garand I already had a M1 Carbine and a 03 A3 Remington wanted a Garand to complete the WW2 set
-
After many years I have finally got me a M1 Garand made in February or March of 1944 Springfield Armory. Hope to shoot this weekend.
