I did a few stupid things while I was healing- I tried to ride a bike too early and hurt for a day or two, I tried to mow the lawn and hurt for 2-3 days afterward-- I think my wife used the term "macho idiot" once or twice with me-- but hey, hydrocodone will do that to your judgment!! I could pass the HCP test one handed, and you could, too, I am sure-- it isn't very hard at all. And are one-armed people forbidden from getting a permit? I don't think so! I'd just talk with the instructor and take it one handed. I would not take it on pain pills, however .

Good luck- I had a bad accident a couple of years back- broke my arm/shoulder- they had to open me up to screw some bones back together, etc. 3-4 months of pain meds, 3-4 months of physical therapy. Impressive scar! The shoulder works well enough now. It took about a year to get back to full speed. I wouldn't sign up for any swimming lessons or volleyball teams for awhile. That sort of activity still hurts too much for me.

Presidential Candidates' Opinions on Firearms

So-- This seems to be a question a lot of us are asking-- Can we vote against the Dems regardless of who the Republicans nominate? Could anyone really vote for Romney, for example-- he seems too slimy to me-- I wouldn't want him around my kids, and they are grown-ups. Or would we vote for Romney because he appears to be less of an evil than Hillar-OBama? I am having a harder time with this election than I usually do. I hope I am clearer in November. -
I finally called yesterday-- they said it was issued January 23rd-- Yay! We'll see when it really shows up. I was a little apprehensive about getting the HCP because of a little 'misunderstanding' that happened a few years ago at the Wolf Chase mall, but evidently when my lawyer said it was expunged from the records, it really was expunged enough for the great state of Tennessee. My wife and I did the DMV stuff November 14th, fingerprinted November 16th. But I don't like going to Wal-Mart. Will ya'll kick me off this board if I don't go to Wal-Mart first? I'll probably just ride my bike around town or go to Scooties or something on that first day I can legally carry.

I tell folks I live a 5-mile life-- almost everything I do is within 5 miles of my house- that's just 20 minutes on an easy bike ride. Older areas of cities built before strip mall architecture took over are often great places to ride bikes-- They were built on grid patterns, so there are lots of wide, lightly traveled back streets that parallel the main drags-- in the suburbs you have mostly just main roads to ride on that take you to subdivisions full of cul-de-sacs going nowhere--- So, pre-1960 areas of cities are often great for biking.

I am a fanatic for bicycling-- I own 8 bicycles-- most of them work most of the time! I ride almost everyday-- to work, to the store, even brought a new pistol home on my bike once. I have 2 bike trailers for hauling cargo- brought a wheelbarrow home from Home Depot with my bike last summer. My wife and I like to take bicycle trips of several days. Got rid of my personal car 7 years ago-- I rarely drove it, so I gave it to my daughter. My wife has a car I can use in a pinch. Between us we burn about 10 gallons of gas every 6 weeks ---she can walk to her job. More money for ammo! So- bicycling. And a little gardening.

Thanks gentlemen-- this are some very workable options for me to try. I appreciate the help.

Good morning from icy Memphis, aka Mogadishu on the Mississippi. It was a good night last night-- no one invaded my home, sirens did not wake me up (but my cat did) and none of my Glocks spontaneously shot me while I slept. A good night, indeed. Do any of ya'll have workable ways of carrying a handgun while riding a bicycle? On another thread there was a mention of 2 bicyclists who were robbed and assaulted in Bartlett at Stanky Creek/Nesbit Park last Monday. 8 or 10 people were charged in the crimes. New information I have makes it sound like this was more of a revenge crime-- evidently a couple of the assailants had words with the cyclists/victims earlier in the day and returned with a gang of friends to even the score. In addition to these two bicyclists, I am aware of two other riders (friends of mine) locally who were robbed while they were riding their bikes. One was robbed at gunpoint, one at knifepoint. Both were robbed by pedestrians- crimes of opportunity. I ride a road bike/racing bike-- that means I wear the tight shorts and jerseys (shirts), and I sweat like crazy in the summer. I ride for a few hours at a time in the summer. I usually ride with others. So weight, concealability, and moisture are big issues for anyone carrying who rides like I do. I have thought about using one of those little fannypack holsters. I have heard of one fellow locally who just drops a little revolver into the pocket on the back of his bike jersey. Ideas? Solutions? What does sweat do to ammo and to revolvers? Or little Glocks? I'm not going to quit riding until I'm dead (which could be at any minute- I do have Glocks and killer cats in the house, after all).

So Osama Bin Laden must be a conservative, too, then, by these definitions? That must be why Reagan's regime was able to finance Osama's cohort's training. Strange bedfellows these conservatives do make. Conservatives of a feather.... Does conservative thus mean ideologically rigid, or inflexible? And in nature, do rigid non-adaptive systems survive better, or do flexible systems survive better? I have no idea where I stand in terms of definitions, but where ever it is, I am there.

FYI-- Rangemaster's owner, Tom Givens, got a letter to the editor published in today's Memphis Commercial Appeal about the proposed new law. This was in reaction to an editorial a few days ago where the paper came out against the new bill. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jan/21/letters-to-the-editor-monday/

Citi Bank posted 10B dollars in losses Tuesday. They are looking like they might be in trouble and scrambling. Don't know it it relates-- I doubt if it does. -
"Smart" and "Home Invader" rarely go together. Dumb dead bad guy. Lucky family. I hope they bought a better door.

How about a $250 coffee maker? It is made in Holland. My son-in-law is a coffee gourmet/snob and he thinks these brew the best coffee hands-down. To each his own. http://sweetmarias.com/prod.technivorm.shtml
