It takes what it takes-- lots of folks have to have something happen to wake them up- until it happens to you, or in your neighborhood, it is so easy to stay asleep. Like, Hey, I got pizza, cable, and beer-- I am safe and I have no problems, right? Then-- One robbery, carjacking, shooting, mugging, stalking, or worse--- and it's all different. The only folks that knock on our door (besides friends and the Pizza guys) are the Jehovah's Witnesses when they are out doing their service ministry. I wonder of the Rangemaster sticker on our car helps with that? I guess the city is just in my blood- lived in cities in 8 states and 2 countries for half a century so far. Moved to a small town for a year or so a couple of times and went kinda nuts with the lack of variety (for me). Memphis is the smallest most conservative backwater place my wife has ever lived. Whatever. I don't put much stock in an e-mail from someone who prefers that our government legislate religion, which is far from what the founding fathers wanted. The religious right folks are on the same end of the governance spectrum as Osama Bin Laden & Co-- just a different brand of religion. Which brand do you want? Ford? GM? Chrysler? Coke? Pepsi? Republicans? Islaam? Baptists? They are all imperfect and they all want to get into your pocketbook, your bedroom, and your uterus. (well, dunno about Ford, GM and your uterus....) My wife just stole my G26- she liked it better than the G19 she was carrying (so did I). But whatever princess wants, princess gets, so it is hers now. It is a nice little weapon- we both shoot it pretty well even with the short grip- just takes 50 or so rounds IMHO to get used to the short grip.

We were shooting an M-60 at Ft Leonard Wood-- my friend Ted was shooting and I was assisting. Despite all that noise from the M-60, a deer, a young buck, bounded across the range behind our targets, maybe 100 meters away. Ted took aim and missed the deer with probably 30-40 rounds. We think the deer lived- there was no evidence of any blood or anything else- and the deer was running quite well when he left the range. The instructors never let Ted forget that-- neither did I.
