W/O any question those sight's will make it easier to "use the sight's" on an LCP but at what trade off? The current sight's or simply sighting down the upper side of the slide work's well enough for me to qualify with it. I consider the LCP as a 7 yardor closer pistol and most likely it would be used at arms reach. In the past a shotgun bead has been used on really small pocket pistol's and considered state of the art. So i guess I'm saying save your money or buy a different, somewhat larger pistol instead, you'll be happier.

I've owned a bunch of S&W wheel gun's, to include a couple of 686's when they first came out and wish I'd kept every one of them. That said I've never liked the red insert in the ramp front sight or white outline rear sight's and much prefer all black sights. Since your's is a 6" model you can replace the front sight with non ramped or partridge style gold bead sight. They make a huge difference but are a challange with leather holster's.

It's really hard to go wrong with a Glock 19 and the Gen 4 feel's a lot better in my hand's than the Gen 3 does. Aside from making sure the pistol has a good set of night sights on it I don't do anything else to it but shoot it. So far all of the Glock's I've owned are been issued either had a good trigger pull from the start or developed a good trigger with use.

I prefer the standard sized 1911 platform so I'd steer clear of the Commander clone for my first 1911. The R1 is a very ice basic pistol that you can enhance yourself with after market part's. As to the American classic product line I will say you do get great value for a very fair price.

If your wanting it for a shooter and the price is right then go ahead and buy it, the 1917 S&W is a real get 'er done handgun. A good gunsmith can take care of any repair work on an old Smith like that.

I'm all about S&WJ, K and N Frame wheel gun's and have owned a couple of L Frames all pre-lock model's. All of them can develop wear issues over a long period of heavy use but few of us will subject them to that level of wear and tear. I have grown to admire the utility of the Ruger SP 101 as my wife has one that is far stronger than any J frame Smith I own, with a better out of the box DA/SA as well. No, it doesn't feel like a S&W but it's just fine and in time I'll purchase a 3" barrel GP100 for myself. Older S&W or a GP100 are where I'd set my sight's on is my recommendation.

The THP did extensive accuracy and penatration testing with the 357 SiG Glock combination and it measured up very well. I know that they really did their homework on the changeover and spent a lot of time testing the gun and different round's. What I don't know though was how much influence the bottle neck round had in the mix. After all it's kind of a rehash of the 38 Super - 357 magnum where the .355 round at higher velocity was in demand.

I have M-19's in 2.5, 4 & 6" barrel versions and have owned a couple of 686's in 4 & 6". All are and were excellent revolver's with a the 686 being more easy to control with magnum loads. If I were starting over again and had a good 686 I wouldn't trade it for a 2.5 M-19 because I'd be giving up a one good gun for another good gun.

Here's my view on this, if you have a carry permit and a carry gun then you've made a decision to carry said handgun for the purposes of being legally armed. So why would you want to trade away your carry gun for a 6" N frame S&W 629 that you can find another copy of at another time? I doubt that this is a once in a lifetime deal so what's the hurry? My experence is that sometime's it's best to pass on deal's like this one.

Relax your grip just a touch and put a little more of your trigger finger's pad over the trigger.
-
It sound's like you've done all of your homework and made an informed choice, like you the M&P 9 feel's better in my hand too. I'm in no hurry to purchase another Glock or M&P at this time but when I do buy another 9mm it will be a hard decision to make.

Benefits of polygonal rifling. Caster? Dolomite? Anyone else?
TNWNGR replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Handguns
I cast and also purchase hard cast or swaged bullets as well simply because I'm not out for high velocity but rather lower cost and less wear and tear on theg gun and me. I don't reload for my Glock's but do for most everything else and if given the choice would pass on the polygon barrel. My reason's may not appply to your perspective on this and in the end you are the deciding factor. -
I had one in 40 S&W for a while when they first came out and didn't have any problems with it, but decided to trade it for a Glock 22 instead. I liked the trigger on the Glock better than the Sigma's but thought the Sigma had a better feeling grip.

I like it!

Man, the 600 was one strong rifle, it's a shame they sold so poorly.

Your at a point where waiting and saving for the AR will keep you from giving up another firearm. Being upfront about this with your wife will build trust and bonus point's. However, one of the best thing's is to introduce her to shooting and let her purchase her own handgun or rifle first will be an even bigger win.

Before I replaced the stock I'd look into repairing it myself or having someone else repair it for me. Most often as not the repaired stock is stronger than before and you can't see the repair work.

I can see the 586 being a bit harder to find than the 686 but there were still a lot of them produced so one might turn up for you. The bottom line though is how bad you want it and how long can you wait for one. That's the kicker in gun buying, the want's almost alway's over rule the need's. :-). As an aside though as much as I love older S&W wheel gun's and blued gun's more than stainless one's I've a suggestion for you. Take a really close look at a blued GP100 with and without a Wolff Spring Kit installed. A fixed sight 3" barrel model is on my short list now after doing the same.

You've got a treasure in that M-94 Winchester of your's, as for it's provinence I'd try contacting a collector's association. Now the how and reason it stopped working could be a lot of thing's from being gummed up to weak spring's. Since you've got it apart go ahead and replace all of the spring's and keeep the old one's as spare's. Take a close look at your firing pin and make sure it's not seriously worn or broken. Lube it up and put it back together and treat it with the respect it's earned.

I'm with Dave on this one, there are a lot of used 686 and 586 revolvers to be found on the market w/o the key lock and with a proven history. While there are some S&W revolver's that I would consider buying new the K and L frame model's are not amoung them.
-
Well that's one gun store I'd make a point of not recommending to a friend or going back to myself.
-
Other than the "I need it's" what's your hurry on such a new model? There's a lot about the Shield that I really like but I'm also suspicious of it's newness and even more so in 40 S&W. Regardless, I do hope that you find one and that it is a good pistol that you'll report back to everyone here as to how well it work's.
-
The only negative on the sight's I'm aware of is that the fiber optic insert will work itself out on some of them.

In my opinion the G-19 is the best of the Glock product line and the G-19 Gen 4 is the most comfortable to carry or shoot. I base this on overall size, weight, sight radius and cost to operate the pistol. Factoring in the overall improvements in 9mm Para ammunition your really not giving up enough to quible over in the caliber wars either.
