  1. Nice looking pistol.
  2. I’ve owned my share of Glock pistol’s and believe that the G-19 is the best of the breed. I’ve also shot enough M&P pistol’s to consider the M&P 9c or M&P 45c the best of that breed as well. Then I went and bought a Ruger SR9 just to see how well it worked. I wish I hadn’t of done that because the darned thing run’s like a Swiss Watch. After handling the SR9c I’m beginning to believe that it might be best of the striker fired pistols I’ve encountered.
  3. As for the lever gun I’d hold out until I could find a used pre-cross bolt safety Marlin 336 in either 30-30 or 35 Remington. For a pocket pistol you really need to define the mission in order to really answer this one. Regardless of make a 9mm P pocket pistol is either going to be larger than a Ruger LCP or Kel Tec P3AT as well as being snappier. FWIW I’d consider an S&W Air weight or Ruger LCR in 38 Special or the LCP – P3AT in 380 ACP for affordability and compactness. I'd then spend the left over money on a pocket holster, scope, mounts and rings.
  4. Disparity in firearms pricing from store to store hasn’t changed much in the many years I’ve been buying and shooting guns. Some of this is due to distributor price variations some due to distributors requiring participating gun sellers to purchase and sell some guns that customers refuse to buy. The on line gun sales outfits and auctions look great a face value but once you’ve paid shipping, transfer fees and such the “saving’s†aren’t all that great. Good gun shops who have customer oriented owners promote customer satisfaction and gain new customers in return. Others have highs and lows based upon the whims of a very fickle public. I don’t do business with price gougers and refer everyone who inquires to gun stores that adhere to good business ethics.
  5. Sounds like good karma to me, my wife has recently claimed my Lc9 because I wasn't doing anything with it and so far she's pretty pleased with it. We'll see about the Galloway trigger kit and guide rod a bit later on.
  6. Good information, glad your happy with your purchases. The SA XD9 has a pretty good track record going for it. As for the RIA 1911, they're supposed to run like that out of the box but don't always do, the same applies to other 1911's as well. Whenever you come across a 1911 that runs flawlessly you should hang on to it. Good for you!
  7. I'm a longtime Ruger 22/45 owner, have owned Browning and S&W 22's and shot High Standard Match pistols as well. The 22/45 has great balance and is very well made, as much as I like the ruger MkIII I prefer the 22/45.
  8. Plane old parts gun, most likely a used Colt slide on the Auto Ordinance frame. I don't recall AO selling the frame only but its not unlikely as I've bought other frames for a couple of 1911 builds. Sorry about your friends luck, I would have passed on that deal but at this point he's stuck with it. Either Duracoat or rebule it, put a better set of fixed sights on it and call it a day.
  9. That company made some intresting little handguns and did some major advertising but still folded.FWIW at $100.00 I don't think you'll be disappointed, besides it'll be something cool to take to the range and let other folks ask questions about it.

    M&P 15-22?

I have the S&W 15-22 MOE model and can't say enough good thing's about it because it's such a good rifle that only happened to be inexpensive. Clean and lubricate it before shooting it and break the magazine's in and you'll be very pleased with having one yourself.
  11. The G17 is service pistol size with a longer slide and grip which offer more sight radius and more grip surface as well as three extra round's of ammunition. As an open carry, IDPA or like field it's a great pistol. However, the G19 is more of a defensive carry pistol with proportion's that make it more comfortable to carry and conceal. If you have larger hand's you might notice the difference in grip surface and shooting comfort but I've yet to talk with anyone who chouldn't shoot the G19 just as well as a G17. As for the 15 vs. 17 round's, that's really a non issue because G17 or G18 magazines can be used in the G19 as spare's or even primary if wanted. All in all the G19 is the better overall carry pistol and unless your wanting to ankle or coat pocket carry conceal's just as well as a G26.
  12. I'll fall in line with some of the G19 vs. G17 dialog but will point out that the G19 shoot's every bit as well as the G17 and the G19 has a slight edge as a daily carry defensive pistol. I'll also point out the G19 can use the G17 magazines and I once carred a G19 as a service pistol doing this very thin, G19 magazine in the pistol, G17 magazines on my belt. Now I'm going to throw in another set of recommendation's, an SR9 or SR9c, both are far less expensive than the Glock and function very well. On a whim I purchased an SR9 to field test, here's what I can say for now, better trigger pull, better ergonomic's than a Gen 1 thru 3 Glock, better factory sight's. Sometime's it's worth the time to step outside of the box and try something different.
  13. Well I don't want anything to do with the 45 G.A.P. as I don't want to add another caliber to the mix and I'm not really certain it's that much of an improvement over the 9mm P with current load offerings. The Remington R-1 look's pretty good but isn't an improvement over the SA or Colt's I already have. As for the Beretta M-92, well I have one because it's the standard issue handgun of the U.S. Military and makes good logistic sense to have. The problem is it's a bit bulky for it's caliber and doesn't carry well for me. So of your offered selection's I'd go with a 4th Gen G-17 because of it's size, weight and proven reliability in the field. I could mention other pistol's but that's not what this thread is about, beside's I like the direction this thread's going becuse it make's you state your case.

    Sig P220 Appraisal?

One of the thing's I really like about TGO is the attention to detail of its moderator's who pay close attention to what's going on here. As for the net worth of a SiG or any other used gun it alway's comes down to what the market will bear and it is alway's a buyer's market. If there are any gun show's near you I suggest you walk through and pay close attention to the price's on the table's. Then start asking the individuals who are walking around with their personal firearms what they have and how much they want for it.

    M&P9 Grip

I like the feel of the Gen 4 Glock 17/19 much more than the 2nd and 3rd generation models. I also like the feel of the M&P and feel like it shoot's and handles a bit better for me. Now with this aside i did something rather radical for me, i purchased a Ruger SR9 and flipped the hackstrap insert over to the flat side. It feel's better to me than either the Glock or S&W M&P and it has a superior out of the box trigger in comparison to any Golck I've owned. The trigger pull is more crisp than the M&P's I have shot as well. So, don't be afraid to try different pistol's, you might be plesantly suprised.
  16. Nice pistol, at first I thought it was a Gen 4 modellbut then took a closer look at the backstrap. The Gen 4 G-17/22 are a pretty good duty pistol set up and are pretty much debugged by now. As for the comment by FIST, I can't disagree with him on it because there are thing's l like and don't like in the Glock platforms myself. I would however suggest trying a Ruger SR9 as another option to those who dislike the Glock, I'm very suprised with the improved ergonomics and handling of the Ruger.
  17. Nice looking collection there Craig, those are the most under rated pistol's that S&W has produced.
  18. Glad you like your SR9c, I picked up a new SR9 today to put through it's paces and see how it measures up to the Glock and M&P. At this point I can say it has the best out of the box trigger of any like set up I've owned or shot. This really suprised me because the SR9 isn't known for having a really great trigger pull. Time will tell though and I tend to be suspicious until a new pistol proves itself to me.
  19. Keeping the Model 65 would be my choice as well, an LCR can alway's be obtained at a later date.

    M&P45

The M&P 45c is user friendly from my experence with one over the course of a weekend of shooting one. It is more comfortable than it's Glock counterpart and has a more natural grip angle setting the bore axis in a more intuative plane. The example I used had a very nice trigger, far nicer than a M&P 9 and M&P 9c that I also had the opportunity to shoot as well. If I were in the market for a polymer frame 45acp pistol the M&P 45c would rule out a Glock.
  21. I've long since ceased trying to figure out why a particular pistol out of a given lot number doesn't want to play nice and instead give me fit's. Sometime's it's simply a matter of not working with a specific brand of ammo or a bad magazine. Both are an easy fix and no big deal. But when it get's into the fidley little stuff like an off spec chamber, feed ramp etc, that's almost right but...that irk's me. Part's breakage is a given, even in a brand new gun so I alway's look for thing's like that before shooting and everytime I clean a pistol. The bottom line though is not every new or lightly used pistol is flawless so don't let it bum you out.
  22. Couldn't have said it any better myself.
  23. Shop for a used 22 LR revolver, I picked up a near new new Model Bearcat for about two bill's, Single Six's are out there as well.

    S&W 15-3

I'm a big fan of the S&W M-15, in fact I have an ex-LEA M-15-3 in my gunsafe and owned another year's ago as well. As to the heavy trigger pull in your grandfather's revolver it's very likely going to be a very dry and dirty internal action group. I've already encountered this in several older S&W revolver's from the 50's, 60's and 70's. A complete disassembly, cleaning and lubrication has worked wonder's in all of them.

    LCR 357 Magnum

Got to shoot a friend's LCR 357 Magnum today that he obtained in a gun trade and it handles rather well for such a light weight revolver. My buddy had been shooting 158 grain magnum round's in it and was ready to get rid of it until I convinced him to shoot some 125 grain magnums through it. While doing this I worked with him on his stance and grip with positive results. Now he's happy with the gun and doesn't think it is unconfortable to shoot any more. It really made me feel good to pass on some hard earned lesson's to another shooter and see such positive result's. The only problem is now I'm thinking about an LCR for myself...
