Insofar as bolt action hunting rifles, well the sky's the limit so do your own due diligence. Another option should you reconsider the AR platform is 7.62x39 which is effective at any reasonable 30/30 Winchester caliber range. I've had one for years and only recently placed it on consignment for sale. My only reasoning being its sat too long w/o being used and I've no further desire to own it. Now some other options for your consideration are NEF single shot rifle...nicely prices, accurate and barrels/calibers can be swapped. The Ruger &1 and Thompson Contender are more expensive but higher end manufacturing. But regardless, avoid new hunting rifles and focus on used ones instead. .

Great post...but should I school you on the difference between Magazines and Clips aka stripper clips and ALA Garand embolic clips? Big grin here and playful poke in the rips at you since I've been "schooled" myself dozens of times over my shooting career. Enjoy your new pistol I believe you picked a winner.

Though I've already recommended another XDs in 45ACP with a 4" BBL I've also been reflecting back on other .45ACP pistols I've owned & carried. All of the suggestions here are good ones but an old school solution that's still a great one is a 1911 GM, Combat Commander or Commander. RRI (ARMSCO) & ATI are great lower cost platforms. Springfield Armory 1911 pistols are another remarkably affordable option as well. Colt and others are a bit higher priced but generally need less tweaking insofar as general a bit nicer build.

Easiest and least expensive fix is a fitted barrel bushing which is DIY doable if you take your time.
-
If its a baked enamel finish then touch it up and keep on moving until enough finish chips away to redo it. Otherwise I'm seeing this as being a successful purchase and follow up project.
-
OK you already have an XDs for Summer Carry so I'm thinking its a 9mmP 3.3" model. If so then why not just go with another XDs in .45ACP but with the 4" barrel for Winter Carry. A high capacity handgun isn't a requirement for a HCP holder, in some ways it is more of a hassle then a benefit. What you train with and shoot well is sometimes far less than you'd recognize.

I always considered purchasing one of these but didn't as I thought the 20 or 12 gauge w/a 22WMR or .223 made more sense. Now I've a different opinion and sometime back purchased a used NEF .410 Pardner and a .22LR sub caliber insert. which suffices for my needs.

While elusive M1A's aren't impossible to find. Unused original 20 round GI magazines are a different story. As to the $1600.00 price...if you really want it buy it, I don't think you'll save more than a hundred or so dollars shopping around elsewhere.

Wow. Its been years since I've seen a Detonics pistol, given the original company went Tango Uniform. Still, that's not an unreasonable looking rig, just not sure if I'd want to handle one of them.

I have an XDs 9 which I like a lot, enough so to seriously consider purchasing an XDs 4" BBL 45 ACP. The XD models with double stack magazines are off setting to me though due to the hump backed overly tall slide.
-
I read & heard a mixed bag of stories on the XDs post recall trigger but haven't any negative issues with my own post recall purchase XDs 9's trigger. It was what actually decided the issue of purchasing the pistol for me. I can't say if mine is a representative sample or not but will probably purchase an XDs 45 w 4" barrel to complement it. My only reason for that would be winter vs. Spring/Summer carry.

I'd purchased an XDs 9mm myself on the tail end of the recall issues and another shooter showed me the roller pin indicating it was already a post recall model. FWIW I love it, nicest compact 9mm I've ever owned and along with my Ruger LCP a part of my rotational daily carry gear. Its also the first SA XD pistol I'd ever been willing to purchase after years of Glock pistol carry.

Going the gunsmith route, especially if said gunsmith is knowledgeable, experienced and competent is smart business. FWIW its sounding like a barrel/cylinder end shake problem which is easily repaired. If not then its simpler i.e. it just needs a complete teardown, cleaning and reassembly to specs. Should have included I've had a bit of experience with the Colt Detective Special, Agent, Cobra and to a lesser extent its Police Positive Special progenitor. While great revolvers they can develop timing issues and such through rough handling or being dropped, so a factory return or good gunsmiths tune-up is just a part of such wheel guns ownership.

For an impulse buy I can't fault you on your selection as I believe you did very well on the deal. Simple drop in parts replacements like you've already ordered are generally all any 1911 clone need to bring them up to respectable standards. Overall I'd rate you at 98% or better on this selection, evaluation and proposed solution. Pretty good I'd say.

Glock frame modifications are fairly simple if you practice on some inexpensive airsoft clones first. Basic tools needed are a Dremel tool or clone, wood burning pen, sand paper and round files. If its what you want then try it but be prepared to take a hit on resale/trade in price on your Glock. To a degree the same applies to a lot of the gunsmith modifications on Glock frames. If its what you want to do then go for it...Google Fu for shops and do your due diligence as I won't recommend anyone locally for this work.

G17 or G19. S&W 5906.

There’s always going to be individuals who willfully ignore laws pertaining to firearms transactions. Sometimes someone gets caught, most of the time nothing ever happens and thus risk is minimal.
-
I suggest that you purchase a used S&W 3913 try to go with the DAO or decocker model. This is a thin and trim pistol that shoots and functions very well.

I owned a 2[sup]nd[/sup] gen G-23 for many years, carried it on and off duty with no problems at all but didn’t think to highly of it. The size difference between the G-22, G-23 and G-27 convinced me to purchase a G-22 and G-27 with the G-23 becoming a safe queen. The G-23 is a good pistol and will serve you well if that’s your end decision but as a recommendation I would suggest the G-19 or G-36.

I really like most of the Ruger product line but given the choice of a S&W Airweight 38 Special or Ruger LCR I'd go with the S&W. I've revised my opinion of the LCR due to some of the wear issues it's owners have encountered with respect to it's finish. Out of the box the LCR has a much nicer trigger.
spent about 60 days in the hospital in rehab, now they come twice a week. i do have high hopes.
You should have high hope's because everything you achieve is a step beyond where you are now and you will be shooting again. Where ther's a will there is alway's a way. Everytime.

RWF, Talk with your Doctor and Physical Therapist and tell them what your goals and objectives are as well as how important shooting is to you. Then while working towards your goal of getting back into handguns shooting again find someone with a Ransom Rest with the trigger pull attachment. With this you can begin working on your sight picture and sight alignment without the current frustration. Just being able to be at the range and do some accuracy shooting from the bench should be a great day. Later as your strength and hand control improves you can adapt other rests, braces and trigger shoes into your shooting routine.

Unless you have a steady hand and can avoid creating an unlevel surface I wouldn’t recommend using a Dremil. I’ve used Flitz on a cotton or wool pad with a sanding block or wooden dowel rod to gently remove surface corrosion. I’ve also used very fine steel wool dipped in CLP to ease across problem areas moving as slowly as I could to avoid swirls and scratches. A good gunsmith who does a lot of hot bluing and is a first class buffing machine operator can clean up a stainless steel gun or do a light media blasting that looks fantastic.
i may just save up and get an LC9
Not a bad choice but the SR9c is more slim and compact then picture's indicate and has a superior trigger to the Lc9.

The P11 is more comfortable to shoot than the PF9 and the fluff and buff really help's it out a lot. It's an improved design of the Grendal clip feed pistol from some year's ago. They aren't high usage pistol's being intended to carry a lot but shoot far less but I like them, I wouldn't recommend one to you though. Take your money and shop around for a used CZ75 clone or a Springfield Armory in 9mmP instead, you'll have a better pistol.
