Glad you like the LC9s, my experiences with the KT PF9 & R LC9 failed to generate confidence in either. This is rather odd to as I am very pleased with my R SR 22 & LCP. I would be happier with a drop in metal "guiderails" module though.

I'm so-so on the P-7 as it doesn't feel natural to me and I distrust the elaborate mechanics involved. Its also a bit noisy when pressed into firing mode. Still it works rather well. I'm also rather ambivalent about Glock's, even though I've trained extensively with them and carried several over the years as POW duty/off duty and later departmentally issued sidearms. What I really like is a good P-35 BHP or nice shooting 1911 GM or nice 1960's 1970's vintage S&W revolvers. Still with all that aside have you tried an SA XDs 9? If not then do so as it has good ergonomics and a fairly nice trigger. It doesn't have the double-decker slide feel of the other SA pistols. Should the 3.3" barrel be too stubby a 4" is available. I'm rather taken with the XDs 9 I have, enough so to be considering on in .45ACP with a 4" BBL for winter carry. I also like the factory FO FS set up as well.

Nice to know about the countersink trick on the safety detents plate, will keep that in mind if another 500 follows me home. My 500 Persuader is my HDSG but now has a fixed stock on it, I've no use for pistol griped SG's. I totally agree on the 500's lighter weight being a plus unless I'm shooting slugs out of one.

Does it have the metal sliding tang safety or is it plastic? If you need a metal replacement tang safety Brownells' carries them and I'd recommend a slightly stouter spring for under said tang safety. I have a 500 of my own where I did all of this retro fitting and like it but prefer the 590 or 870. To make a long story short the 500 does a greet job in everything but an extended tactical SG course. The 590 holds up better but the 870 is bullet proof. This of course is speaking from personal experience and information relayed by some really experienced firearms instructors. Louis Awerbuck really didn't care for the 500 but would try to help keep you running with it.

I'd prefer the Ruger but would consider the SD if the LGS or S&W were doing a really good sale. Either one has a host of aftermarket parts and replacement magazines aren't to difficult to locate.

Yep. I painted a lot of front sights on fixed sight S&W J & K Frames in the 1970's and 1980's. You'll probably get a better sight picture if you use some flat black paint on that white front sight. That's what I ended up doing with the nickeled and stainless wheel guns I was shooting. The only downside to the grips your using is they're a bit clingy on fabric so you have to work around that, I gave up on them and went back to wood grips.

With the proviso that some cargo pants offer greater flexibility with respect to pocket carry of handguns I'll offer my $00.02 worth of insight. The LC9 proved itself a bit to large for pocket carry by me. I found the same to be true of the Walther PPK/s, KT PF9 and Colt Detective Special. S&W 2" J Frame Airweights are doable but feel bulky. The Ruger LCP, KT P3AT & P-32 work agreeably. I've also pocket carried a Beretta Jetfire Model 950 in 25 ACP and a Baby Browning (Bauer) 25 ACP's. Now for some methodology; I tend to avoid wearing "tactical pants" and "cargo pants" because just like a fanny pack if your a guy of a certain age they highlight you as a probable gun carrier. I don't like that or want it, preferring instead to be the "grey man" in the back ground no one notices. There's a lot of merit to not drawing undue attention to oneself. So as much as I dislike pocket carry I find myself out and about with a LCP of proven reliability a lot more often than with a SA XDs9 or SR9

I rather like my Beretta 92FS and concede it is capable of far more then I've wrung out of it. But with that aside its never been a carry gun for me and likely won't ever be such. But I've no plans to trade or sell it and most likely as not will get another made here in TN once the new factory's up and running.

Aside from not being too sure the SA RO 1911 variant is Made in the USA its still one I'd be interested in.

Carried one for several years as an OD/BUG and had a lot of mechanical problems with it not attributable to ammunition, magazines or hold. Realistically mine was probably a lemon but still was overly large for pocket carry so I used either an ankle holster, IWB holster or SBA vest holster with it. Overall to my mind the Ruger LCP I now carry is a better set up. Still there's something about the PPK/s that generates interest in shooters who've never owned one.

All polymer framed pistols are not created equal so exercise due diligence in what you purchase, carry mode, ammunition used as well as quality magazines.

Wife has a PT-111 that's 100% reliable and fits her hands properly so she's well satisfied with it. As to Rossi revolvers...those made in the 1970's were overall good with occasional clunkers. Now? I have similar feelings on Taurus wheel guns of late vintage.

As I understand it we're talking about a striker fired variant of the LC9 with the inherent short return of striker fired pistols. From past experience & with a KT PF9 & Ruger LC9 you'll have a slimmer pistol more akin to the S&W Shield or like. I guess its interesting to read about but not something I'm likely to want to buy.

I wasn't impressed with the COP when it was on the market and don't see the utility of this reiteration of the "Pepperbox" concept.

I've owned a S&W 638 and Ruger LC9 and currently own/carry a SA XDs9 so I'd consider the S&W Shield or SA XDs instead of the LC9s and a S&W 442 instead of the S&W 638 for purely personal reasons.

Your dealing with products of Brazil and the Philippians that are both of good quality and value. I own a SA 1911 and a couple of Colt's. If I were in the market for a new 1911 I'd consider a RIA Commander style.

Concur on the observations pertaining to the HP magazines being less then optimal. I also concur on they're uglier than a junk yard dog at midnight. Still though people buy them as intro level guns and often as primary guns thus becoming a cult classic.

Owned a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm NM. Don't want to own another or any 10mm NM for that matter. But as is said to each there own.

I own a Ruger SR9 and a SA XDs 9P. Both are outstanding pistols with no complaints from me on either. As an aside though the SR9 and Glock 17/19 are actually kissing cousins in most every respect. I've handled and shot the S&W M&P 9 as well as the Shield 9mmP. Both are excellent pistols. I owned a Ruger LC9 and will not recommend one. But I will wholeheartedly endorse Ruger products as a whole.

It looks nice but I'm skeptical as to its reliability. I say this because I've watched and had Mossberg 500 PSG's fail to complete tactical shotgun schools. I've seen more Saiga's choke and die too to fully trust them either. The simple rule with a defensive PSG is keep it topped off, shoot twice load a round on the move, shoot again load one or two rounds. I believe reliable detachable magazine combat PSG's have potential but see it as turning a sows ear into a silk purse endeavor. Not trying to make you angry or hurt your feelings here just commenting on what I know.

Good bad or ugly on Berretta PX4 Strom compact or sub compact?
TNWNGR replied to LenoirGunner's topic in Handguns
In my rather humble opinion a CX4 set up with the DOA trigger is an excellent pistol to consider purchasing. Pluses are price, magazine availability, quality and ergonomics. It just feels good in your hand and is in the Glock 19 M&P 9 size range. If you've ever owned a 92 FS or trained with one transition to the CX 4 is dirt simple. -
I've no first hand knowledge of the SCCY 9 and have never owned a Hi-Point, but have first hand knowledge of their functionality. The initial production models of the S&W Sigma were pretty disappointing, I had one and promptly traded it for a Glock 22. I won't recommend the KelTec PF9 unless you've got small hands, yep found that out myself too.

In 9mmP a G-17/19 or S&W M&P 9. In 45ACP a 1911GM or Commander, G-30/36. As a wild card I also suggest a SA XPs 4" Barrel .45ACP with Pierce Grip Mag Extension and the Factory Extended Mag. You'll love it.

Yep. The LCP is quirky about that side pin backing out, had it happen to me while re-qualifying with it as an Off Duty/BUG before I retired. Make it a routine to check it daily and you'll be fine.

Its an OK price with no one the worse for the deal. You'll notice the .45 ACP is a bit snappish in the XDs platform but not unreasonably so.
