  1. After market, possible homemade grips of a burl wood, probably the following type...http://www.rockler.com/red-mallee-figured-burl-turning-blanks?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=PL&sid=V9146&gclid=CP2um4uJ28MCFQkkgQodq0wAQA

    S&W 19

You'd be upside down in the trade....
  3. Not according to this...http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1243441-did-a-tactical-nuke-just-go-off-in-ukraine-big-explosion-rocks-donetsk/   A secondary of a munitions or chemical plant is very possible so I'm sure more will come of all of this.
  4. I'm more inclined to believe a thermobaric MOAB style piece of ordinance, which is also a very bad thing. Radiation detectors should have already picked up something.
  5. It's a C&R pistol of good manufacture and as a collectors piece is a worthwhile acquisition. As a sometimes range gun or casual shooter it'd be a lot of fun. Where I would draw the line is as a carry gun or truck gun as all I would fire in it would be standard velocity FMJ or hard cast lead bullets.
  6. If your goal is a rock bottom bare bones stock 1911 without a lot of fit & finish then the ATI is your dish. But if you want the better fit & finish & appearance of a more visually appealing gun then go RIA. So my advise is go for the nicer of the two if it's within the reach of your budget or simply wait a bit longer, set aside a few extra dollars and then get what you want.

    Ruger SP 101

I tend to agree with Oh Shoot on carry being the principle reason to go with the SP-101 vs. GP100 with one proviso...I've met people wit smaller hands who do better with the SP-101 or a S&W J frame. As to the barrel, well mode and purpose of carry should define this but for CC with the SP-101 my preference would be fixed sights 3". Realistically if I'm going to carry a 4' barrel .357 Magnum it's going to be either a GP-100 or S&W K frame in an OWB holster.
  8. Different animals really, Taser shuts you down as long as the leads are embedded and current's flowing. The "plastic " attachment described above is more akin to a rubber bullet used in riot control. I'd consider that plastic impact projectile a bit more likely to spin up an attacker rather then temporarily turning off his go switch.
  9. Yeah, it was a good turn out, good company and great fellowship. The food and service were good to. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and if the right weekend combination comes along would love to go to the range with everyone. I also hope we can work out something on getting together at least a couple of times a year for meals again. And BTW Ted's not a hippie but a hybrid Yippee who smiles a lot and drinks coffee... <grin>
  10. As ooohhh aptly illustrates the 938 & G-26 are two completely different platforms whose only shared characteristics are caliber. But I suspect the OP knew this already and is more interested in things other the G-26  being fat and stubby.
  11. In the end it rests with the awareness of the buyer and if someone here hasn't allowed themselves to be taken to the cleaners on a firearms deal before then they just don't know any better.
  12. For "not indoor" designated ranges there's this...http://shoottn.org/. Another located in nearby that's open Tue-Sat is...https://plus.google.com/101613995490895633388/about?gl=us&hl=en which is located on Knox RD in Chapmansboro TN.
  13. For someone new to the 1911 all black fixed sights or even white dot fixed sights would probably come across as being GI type sights. Those of us familiar with older 1911 or even GI surplus ones with their staked front sights would immediately know the difference. It amazes me how much time has so quickly gone by since Novak and Wilson type sights became the near norm on stock 1911's.
  14. As much as I want to say the 938 I'm not, it'd be the G-26 even though I have the same issues with it as hipower. The darn thing's great to shoot but awkward to carry. In fact the G-19, which conceals very well and is equally as thick, is more comfortable in carry IMHO.
  15. Good first 1911 Clone. Yes a bit of paint does help on the sights but eventually you'll end up with a better set of sights. As to the G-26, it'll do good by you and is much nicer to shoot then the G-27. It's also much more controllable during longer strings of fire.
  16. May or may not be joking???Hmmm. Wanting to give some poor near new police officer indigestion after the poor kid finally figures it all out are we? <grin> Sorry I'll pass on that law enforcement learning experience but it would probably prove alighting. <bigger grin>.
  17. Dave, I don't know your legal educational or professional training background but do know my own. Believe as you wish.
  18. S/U & DTN...w/respect to your two recent post's on GZ. GZ was involved in an avoidable use of lethal force incident which cannot be redacted. On that date one life was taken away and another destroyed. I never viewed GZ as having had the necessary elements of "intent" to have prosecuted him for murder. Bad judgment yes, criminal conduct at that time...no.
  19. GZ pretty much placed himself in the messed up life he's currently living and will have to step up and fix it or sink further into the cesspit he's in. He has consistently made bad choices which continue to keep him in the public eye. Foresight beats the heck out of hindsight but in all honesty people don't always think beyond the moment and fail to consider "what if".
  20. Wednesday night at 7PM it is then. Great job Ted!
  21. It's good
  22. ROTFLMAO
  23. Cut cable years ago and Direct TV last year, don't miss it or the bills. A HDTV adapter provides all of the local channels free of cost. Anything else is via internet or movie rental, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if everyone quit cable/satellite TV and taught the providers what greed begets.
  24. Post the T&D and I'll reply on attendance. Hope it works out because I'd like to meet everyone. BTW to any who've not visited Casa Blanca on Riverside Drive no worries, it's clean and very attractive, good food, good service and pretty decent prices. The hostess who works the register is a genuine beauty too, very nice lady as well.
  25. Doesn't sound like a bad trade/sale combo deal and you've actually acquired a nice match target pistol.
