  1. Concur, but its not uncommon for the heavy DA trigger of a DA/SA pistol to be slightly preset due to piss poor handling practices. All of which reaffirms solid firearms and use of force policies coupled with continuous training.
  2. I'm pleased with my XDs9 but like the feel of the Shield. Eventually I might buy a Shield or Glock 43 but will still keep the XDs9.
  3. Exactly, the suspension means lost wages, that really fixes it in an officers head that they'd better get straightened out. The remedial training, which is fully documented by the way, is to make certain the officer knows what they did wrong and how to do it correctly. That generally fixes that particular problem because the officer knows future consequences are worse. If its a problem officer they'll do enough active stupid stuff compiled to be fired. Agencies that fail to adhere to this end up with serious problems. LASO might not be perfect but its head and shoulders above a lot of other major law enforcement agencies I know of.
  4. Transitional training from the 92 or 5906 to an M&P in the hands of a 10-20 year veteran is a major shift in direction. All of the potential bad habits of staging a DA trigger while on a target become a ND  in the making with the M&P. E1 has the right of it, this is a transitional training issue that's only going to be solved by repetitive training. He's also right in questioning the type of holsters being used. I'm not going to point a finger at "finger on the trigger" because of sloppy gun handling.
  5. If you've essentially spent your shooting life to date with SA, SA/DA pistols and revolvers then shooting a Glock pistol is frustrating as you have to learn an entirely new shooting technique. Then whenever you spend a significant period of time with another pistol you have to reacquaint yourself with the Glock. What's really bad is you can take someone who's never fired a pistol, teach them on a Glock and they'll be outshooting you in no time. So don't feel bad its just one of those pistols you've got to shoot enough to switch off and go auto pilot with to really do well with it. Get away from paper targets and go with reactive ones, empty plastic bottles, cans, ping pong balls and balloons. Then go back to paper targets to evaluate the group pattern. What you'll find is you've forgotten how spongy the trigger is because your only releasing to the reset point and then re-stroking the trigger again. People spend lots of money on trigger kits trying to shortcut the learning curve by means of a crisper trigger. I just put good sights on the gun and shoot it.
  6. Yeah, you get to do an occasional compulsive gun purchase every once in a while but all others are planned in advance. Otherwise household peace and harmony suffer which is to be avoided whenever possible. Given the choice between a 1911 in 9mmP or 38 Super the later choice is the more traditional but the first choice far less expensive to shoot. The only rational choice at this point it to buy both and enjoy the bonanza.
  7. Concur but I expect things to progressively worsen for police officer. It's gearing up to be the 1960's and early 1970's level of violence against police. Unfortunantly stuff like this plays right into the hands of government and agitators.

With reference to the rebuttals re: 10mm only time will tell but brief reassurances aren't unknown or unheard of in the gun world. Always, always be suspicious of gun writers and professional bloggers as they write copy geared towards monetary gain. Unbiased reporting is always suspect. If you love the 10mm then good, I've traveled down that road and its a round best run on the warmish to hot side otherwise its just another 40. Size wise in the 10mm the G-29 is more then ok and falls into a size niche that's comfortable for me. It also does well in recoil management. Still I'll stick with a 9mm or 45 as they serve my needs.

I'm not impressed. As to the 10 mm, it's probably going to linger on a while becoming much as the .41 Mag with a scant following.
  10. Yep. .410 ammo's expensive. Go to yard sales frequently and you'll find old boxes of the stuff for sale.
  11. Personal agendas are strange convoluted things and the perceived ability to hide in plane sight on the wacky web brings out the worst in people. OP was clearly playing games, got called on it and lashed out. Said party got banned, they might have been here before under another name or return again. Who can say and I'll not lose sleep over it.
  12. Yep, hands down and without a doubt...and publically admitted to it as well...sigh...
  13. Yep. Single shot and decidedly behind the power curve but still deadly. H&R used to make a .410 shotgun called the Snakecharmer...it was a wickedly nasty little people shooter in sheeps clothing. One fellow went into a local apartment many years ago and murdered several people. I'd never thought of the .410 in that manner but afterwards realized the low recoil, low report, compact carbine length made it very dangerous at near to point blank range. It's really something to consider for folks short on money or recoil sensitive. It's also an excellent small game and woods walking "poor mans" shotgun.
  14. in the absence of available slugs they'll do so so but if it comes to that you'd be better of using a 12 gauge.
  15. I can guarantee that little .410 is a squirrel and rabbit killer like you wouldn't believe possible. The problem is it's expensive to shoot. As already advised don't try and shoot .45 Lon Colt rounds out of it. Using Marlin .444 rifle cases for shot she'll reloads is doable too, I just never had the need to do so. One other thing about that little shotgun you bought. It's a wickedly deadly anti personnel weapon. That one falls into that beware the man who only has one gun advise.
  16. Yeah, that was the problem at my last house, couldn't receive Verizon so went back to A.T.& T. The house I'm in now is in Verizon coverage. From what I've read that means it'll work with Sprint or T-Mobile...just not 100% sure.
  17. I'm thinking this topic's come up before but can't recall when so please bear with me. I'm currently with A.T.& T and have been with Verizon in the past. Both are needlessly expensive so I want to go with something long term less expensive but with reliable coverage. I'll be doing the Google-Fu but want to hear what others in the Mid-State area use/recommend.
  18. Looks good to me and I've seen a bunch of chicken coops. If you have a large yard that you want the chicken's to police up the ticks and other bugs on you might consider building some chicken tractors. That'll keep hawks, eagles and four legged critters off of the egg makers. The eggs will taste better too.
  19. LMAO
  20. With reference to milling metal off of the receiver...I wouldn't do that. If your of a mind to mill something look at the barrel and whether it has enough of a diameter to benefit from lighting grooves. Otherwise replace said barrel with less diameter. Scope rings/base and scope should be scrutinized for lighter weight options.    Recognizing your desire to keep costs down are you sure another stock wouldn't be a better option? is it possible to trade with someone else for a synthetic stock?   BTW I inherited a No. 5 Enfield JC from my father and will confirm the comment regarding a lot of metal having been removed from the sides of its receiver. The increased recoil in this rifle is worsened by its age hardened rubber recoil pad. It'll really rattle your eye teeth.
  21. You still have to do a good bit of hand fitting with fingers and rounded edge pressure tools. There's no substitute for a pressure mold utilizing weight or hydraulics but time and paitance can do really good things.
  22. For a simple but effective vacuum molding system for leather holsters a vacuum storage bag for clothing combined with a vacuum cleaner works fantastically. The same approach can be used in molding hot kydex to the selected handgun with a little forethought and preparation. How? Think along the lines of a mailable piece of fabric or thin leather on the inside surface of the vac bag, then it's a matter of practice. Use a cut down gallon milk or radiator fluid bottle for practice plastic prices, it'll save you money on waisted failures. Making a few knife sheaths first will also make the first holsters look better as well.
  23. Good story. I had near the same thing happen a couple of times to me but with different guns of course and laughed it off as to a good cause. I'm certain you feel the same way about it and are more pleased that your wife displayed enough of an active interest and competency to claim ownership of a pistol she felt comfortable with. All in all I call that a win.
