  1. Regardless of whatever route you choose to take to recover the stolen pistol the chances of doing so are remarkably slim. One other option is to post a no questions asked cash on recovery reward for the gun. You'll need to be a bit creative in listing where the gun was stolen from so that only the actual thief or someone they were with or talked to will know where the crime occurred.   More then likely the gun was sold on the street level or traded for drugs. It might be rat holed in someone's home or vehicle or trade hands a number of times. Stolen guns do occasionally turn up being traded or sold to gun stores which gets really interesting for the person in possession at the time. I've also known of guns purchased via internet and shipped to the FFL doing the end transfer turning up as stolen as well.     All in all the whole thing sucks and having had an expensive pistol as well as a very expensive knife collection stolen I can fully understand your anger.
  2. My SR9 has a better out of the box trigger than an awful lot of Glock and M&P's I've shot and handled so I'm fairly pleased with it. I've also been told by other folks that the SR9c trigger is as nice or better so who can say. I can say though your trigger will smooth out with enough rounds downrange, cleaning and lubrication. But if you want to improve things right away these folks are my only recommendation.http://gallowayprecision.com/ruger/sr9c-and-sr40c/
  3. Yep. Very doable. A fixed rest or monopod attachment to the chairs arm and he's in business. I'm thinking a Ruger Charger and a 45/22 are probably going to work best for him but he should be easily able to shoot a Bearcat for his revolver experience.
  4. http://www.gunblast.com/Savage-A17.htm   JQ pretty much answered all of my questions after reviewing your initial query to the point of the long term feeding of the rifle as Caster so aptly put it. I don't foresee availability as an issue because .17 HMR remained available in a lot of places I looked for .22LR. It's just an expensive RF round, albeit a smoking hot fast one though.
  5. What? The 1969 Charger? Of course the orginal GL was an R/T IIRC and a lot of the GL clones we see are rebuilt and customized Chargers with a lot of the R/T upgrades installed after the fact. Your right about the surrealistic feeing of knowing first hand about a car from its inception, long before a silly TV show. Of course I was all about Camero's and Firebirds at that time, not that silly MOPAR stuff LOL.
  6. Soapy, I appreciate the history behind the Civil War and the CSA series of flags. I'm not ashamed of my ancestors or of my country but am exacerbated by the extremist hate groups and targeting of innocents. I'm certain that's a universal opinion with all of us here. With that it's a sad thing to recognize being in proximity to a demonstration protesting a businesses decision to stop selling the Stars and Bars is unsafe in your own city.
  7. Re. OP. Aside from the two custom shops you mentioned I've no further personal input. A bit of creative search work sent me to listed gunsmiths via USA Guns, Yep, theirs shops out there but I suspect you'll end up in the East TN area. As to the grip mods...it's your gun do what you want with it, just understand its unreversable. Your already doing your due diligence for an informed decision so best of luck to you.
  8. Yeah, that video rings true on letting your inner child run free of all of the instilled do this, think this, be this crap! Just be for crying out loud. Live in the now and be free. Life is to short, don't waste it.
  9. Hmm. Never thought about the bed sheets, have seen beach towels, swim suits, boxers, T-Shirts, pillows, hat's and wall hangings of the "CBF" as well as belt buckles.
  10. Well that's an interesting turn of events, I'll keep an eye on them to see how well hey do.
  11. Good for them I hope they have a successful market year!
  12. I started out with a Remington 700 ADL in .222 that I never should have traded away and ended up with a 700BDL in 22/250, then the varmint hunting in my area dried up. I've also had the opputunity to shoot Ruger M-77 rifles in 220 Swift and .257 Roberts both of which I loved.
  13. Yes, it is and if they continue to stay in business and honor the warranties the company will reap dividends in customer loyalties and support. Reminds me of HiPoint Arms and how they jump started an initial rocky entry into the gun market.
  14. Good looking set up, thumbs up on the sight selection BTW! The base plates are a good ideal as well and while not a new ideal or concept that particular set is appealing. I'll bear them in mind when I eventually decide to purchase the G-43 I'm foot dragging about. As an aside question did you retain an original magazine and baseplate for more concealed carry or is the plus 1 baseplate the smallest you can comfortably handle and shoot with that particular pistol?
  15. Unsurprising, and theirs was a well behaved group as well, it'll be interesting to see the long term story spin.
  16. And that pretty much sums up my opinion on the where and how of the Confederate Flag (that really is only a battle flag) issue. It should be historically remembered, that period of history should never be forgotten, we should honor the solders who served and died under both the Union and Confederate flags. Oh yeah, I'm a Civil War buff, my father was as well, he was buried under an American Flag but had a Confederate Flag placed in his hands by a loving grandson who shared the love of Civil War history..
  17. As a multigenerational child of the South who's ancestors served and bled in a lost civil war I have mixed feelings about the entire Rebel Flag issue. Inescapably I'm firmly of the opinion its use by NGA and individuals is a freedom of choice matter not subject to governmental influence. But personally seeing people act an ass flying the thing irritates the hell out of me, but in the end its their choice. As in all things your own choice is simply that so choose accordingly.
  18. Good price and over a period of actual usage you'll be able to form an actual value for dollar opinion. If you find the gun stings your hand while shooting it try a grip sleeve or cut down inner tube around its grip. A good set of shooting gloves is a good thing to keep with you as well. What your trying to do is minimize fatigue and minimize shooters flinch so by all means make things more comfortable for yourself. All you need to do is run an occasional magazine full of ammunition through the pistol at each shooting session w/o gloves to reinforce actual handling and recoil.

    10mm?

I'm not enthused by the 10mm but do believe the G-29 is an excellent platform for that cartridge. From the discription you've provided I can't see how you'll not come out of that purchase happy or upside down on the deal.
  20. The dowel rod is a bird hunting thing limiting how many rounds the mag tube can hold, just pull it out. As to the side saddle I don't recommend one on the 500 due to the alloy receiver, I ran one for a few years and eventually learned it creates some reliability issues. As to sights you have to determine whether you want to have a front sight silver soldered on or epoxied. FWIW I recommend the XS Big Dot as well coupled with a C-More reflex sight as it affords a wider view. One of the more important things to consider is a good sling set up and which you like best. Then you should consider a good weapons light set up that's sturdy, easy to use and has a good battery life.
  21. PTSD is a very real thing but so misused and abused by attention seekers and media the people in direst needs either fall to the wayside or are so disgusted they refuse help. You and your friends family have my sincerest condolences.
  22. Looking only costs a bit of time and gas money with the added factor of a trip to the gun shop. If you like the gun and price then think about it and make an informed choice.
  23. I use a Mobile Hot Spot I purchased through AT&T, Verizon and others offer the same or similar set ups. Mine uses the same cell towers as my cell phone so if your in range its all good. IIRC I started out with 8 G and later went with 10 G for only a little more money.
