Yes an ambi-safety can be a problem and I had issues with the same on a couple of 1911's many years ago. Some of the problems are shooter induced such as the weak hand bumping an extended safety others can be due to a poor instillation or substandard parts. FWIW & IMHO make absolutely certain you are using the best possible parts with the best owner reviews. Then make certain you have selected the best possible gunsmith to do the instillation for you and that you've fully vetted said gunsmith. Run several hundred rounds through the pistol once the work is done from as many shooting positions and presentations as possible to make sure of the reliability and how it all works in your hands. Ensure that whatever holster carry rig you run is designed and intended to be used with a 1911 set up for an ambi-safety. Finally do I think an informed and experienced DIY type can do the ambi-safety installation? That depends because many times parts require a certain degree of fitting.

I wondered if you'd decided to go with the poly receiver since this whole thread's about weight saving and that'll save some weight. You can also trim a tad bit off of the poly receiver. If you go with fold down front and rear BUS I recommend the MAGPUL set, I've been very pleased with the set on my S&W 15/22 MOE.

You can open up the inside of whatever flash guard you place on the barrel for a weight savings and a chases a few grams off the receiver as well. What you should be thinking about is a skeletonized hand guard, no sling swivels and the lightest sight set up you can run. Do that and it's really going to be light and snappy.

"Your next meal will be served through a small hole in a cell door"

This isn't the first time that lieutenants gone viral with one of his crime stoppers videos. Don't be surprised if he doesn't end up doin a follow on career in character parts like Fred Thompson or Gunny. -
Yeah, but my concern with a thin barrel is "barrel-whip", while also factoring in said effects vs. barrel length. I'm sure there's some mathmatical formula to find that information with twist rate and recommended load. In the end though it frequently comes down to trial and error coupled with a dose of best practices of first hand experience.

Re: the milling rings question. Heat dispersal, rigidity and weight reduction are the foremost reasonings but in some instances it's used in barrel harmonics. As to why Dolomite's done so in the indicated pictures is for him to explain but it's certainly a good looking piece of workmanship.

what are you planning to use for a receiver plastic or alloy? The first is lighter the second can be lightened if yo have a knowledgable machinest with the correctly sized milling machine. I know a man who wanted to make a flattop receiver but already had a standard carry handle upper and an adventurous mind. Yep he milled the carry handle off then drilled and attached a weaver base with a lightweight kind of steampunk look to it. Shoots good to.

Armed citizens guarding recruitment centers - legal?
TNWNGR replied to monkeylizard's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've been watching this private citizen guard thing going on at the recruitment centers with mixed feelings as aside from making the "citizen guards" feel good that's about all I see of any merit. Bear in mind the murderer in the Chattanooga incident first did a drive by with a semi automatic rifle. His next and final stop wasn't a strip mall recruiters storefront. It a slippery slope full of inherent liability for those choosing to do this guardianship thing where not only do you risk personal safety you also jeopardize your very financial future. If this is what one feels they have to do then so be it. -
Yeah. U-tube, FB and other social media have helped put a lot of foolish people in jail. Ended more then a few police, military and governmental careers as well. It used to be you only had to open your mouth and speak to prove to everyone you were an idiot. Now all it takes is a smartphone, tablet or computer with a selfie or video.

Yeah. I carried a 2nd gen G-27 for years then had an issued 4th gen G-27 and liked it a whole lot better. It's still a little fireplug though with rip and snort on both ends of the gun. All in all not such a bad set up. Nice leather work on the holster by the way.

LOL... Or as Eastwood said in the movie "Go ahead and make my day, punk!".

L.A. police find stash of 1,200 guns in dead man's home
TNWNGR replied to tennesseetiger's topic in General Chat
JAB, We're only getting parts of an evolving and even for California bizarre story so at this point who the heck knows. For al I know the police may have entered the residence for any number of admissible reasons. I suspect the condo ownership came out after the fact and more weirdness is waiting to be printed. -
Pastor shot, returns fire in North Nashville
TNWNGR replied to monkeylizard's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I like the "You shot a Pastor with Police Connections and the weight of the law's going to come down on you" or words to that effect comment by another pastor. Trying to lay a guilt trip on a street criminal to turn themselves in is what that comment counts like to me. -
Hadn't thought about using square tubing stoic for a rear sight base stock. Now I'll be looking at factory sights and aftermarket winged sight bases and wondering if that's what they did as well. Sheet stock forming requires machined tool stock and hydraulic presses but cutting something to shape from preexisting tube stock is another story.

Hmm? This just gets more and more interesting with the guns only being background information now. -
Well Duracoat or Cerakote will certainly work, with my recommendation being towards the Cerakote. That said I'm going to make some additional recommendations which revolve around the overall condition of the J-Frames surface, specifically rust and pitting. One finish that does quite well is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkerizing . If you keep it properly oiled it is very rust resistant and looks fantastic on an older, worn gun. The other is http://www.armoloyftworth.com/Armoloy_WebDevelopment/Web_Pages/Firearms_Applications.htm I particularly like this finish as it holds up well. Finally I'll recommend having the gun micro bead blasted and a hard chrome finish, a black chrome finish if a local plating shop offers it is even better. No I'm not a fan of chrome on guns but sometimes on a baldly worn guns finish where its subjected to a high rust environment makes it a strong candidate.

Yep it's there. It's also a lengthy, expensive process which can still be amended to irreconcilable differences with the possibility of marital misconduct being attached as well. Divorce Courts in TN now require Mediation, its easier to get a divorce but some instances can bind things up. In the end it comes down to who has the most money for the best attorneys most of the time.

Go with the G-30 SF then if you can, it's G-19 sized so carry and concealment is less of a problem. Even better you can carry a G-21 magazine(s) as spares for added round capacity.

LCP rather than the P3AT, it's just more nicely put together. I can't say anything nice about the Bodyguard but I really like the PICO, even if it's a bit larger than the LCP. I kind of like the TCP but not enough to want to buy one. Of all the above I own and regularly carry an LCP, have owned and carried a P3AT and I lust after the PICO. But if your going to go the PICO route then the G-42 comes into the equation as a comparison.

Obviously the company will replace the stock, but the downside as already discussed is they'll want the entire gun returned. All that you should be out is some personal time and not having access to the rifle. But FWIW the repair of that stock isn't that difficult and once done will be GTG for the duration. Find some brass wood screws, purchase some Accra glass and be prepared to sand and refinish the stock. By all means do what you want to do but I suspect the replacement stock will eventually split in the same place as the first one did.
