  1. http://allenbwest.com/2015/08/whats-happening-to-this-heroic-navy-officer-from-the-chattanooga-shooting-will-make-your-blood-boil/ If the above links information is factual then it's not an unexpected disclosure.
  2. LOL! Amazing!
  3. Just remember the first rule of surviving a disaster...don't be the guy wearing a red shirt....:-p+
  4. Drop the tent and go with a tarp instead. Non stretch cordage!!! Coffee filters to strain water through. A good lensatic or Silva compass and road and topo maps of the area(s). Bouillon cubes, tea bags, jerky and some hard candy. Don't forget at least a couple gallon sized Ziploc type bags. Also a surplus poncho and liner are priceless.
  5.   No, not the interior, the exterior surface when properly sealed and maintained won't absorb water as readily as a rough or poorly maintained holster finish will. But interior holster surfaces have other options than rough surfaced leather.
  6. It was less expensive to settle for 35K than to consider fighting it in a civi court.
  7. Hmmm....I'll have to think about this one a bit
  8. Re: OS & GJ's comments on wet molding holsters causing blued steel to rust. Yep, it'll do that, chrome tanned leather doesn't even have to be "wet" just a slight degree of moisture will do the job. Vegetable tanned leather for the most part will also induce rust when wet molding but once properly molded, buffed and waxed is pretty stable. Note "pretty stable" because if you get soaked and leave the wet holster and holstered gun together you will find some rust later. A simple rust preventative when wet molding a gun is paste wax, then if their are and leaks or uncovered surface areas you are more likely to be alright.
  9. If you have access to a bandsaw, router and belt sander you can produce top quality dummy guns for molding purposes. Another option is to put together a DIY vacuum table and make your own gun molds. I also agree that airsoft and replica guns are good for holster making. Why not post an add offering to buy non functional or broken airsoft/replica guns?
  10. Don't get to out of sorts on the barrel profile, concentrate more on the twist ratio and headspace. Monitor the leading edge wear and make certain that whatever flash suppressor/muzzle break you run fits squarley and has proper clearance for the fired projectile. Remember one of the reasons the military went with the larger OD barrel on the M-16 was soilders were bending it doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing with it. Personaly I can think of easier ways to open crates then with a rifle barrel.
  11. Good for you and congragts! I fully expect to add a G-43 and a replacement G-19 4th gen upgrade to my carry rotation battery in the next few months as well. I really like my LCP and will probably continue to carry it as a BUG.
  12. Top notch video and what an unusual reciever! Your video production and presentation skills are excellent. Well done!
  13. Option A. Which is my recommendation is to purchase another carry holster with a wider protective sweat guard. That will take care of the sights digging into you and avoid having to radius the sides. Option B. Is to have the rear sights melted a bit removing the sharp edges. This is simply dehorning them via judicious metal removal. Option C. Go to an OWB holster. Beyond this it breaks down into going with a different set of sights or a different gun.
  14. [quote name="mikegideon" post="1291727" timestamp="1438301022"]I like the plus one. Have heard nothing but good about both products. Of course, if you make the grip a little fatter, you can get all kinds of ammo in the gun. They should build one of those next :)[/quote Hmm? Now wouldn't that be a GLOCK 26? I see wry humor still abides
  15. Well I reviewed this a bit more and while I sympathize with the man who shot the drone I question the legality of his actions and am certain the incident will cost him a lot of money. But with that I'm also concerned with the way the responding officers are reported to have handled the drone in that it was returned to the owner. No camera or SIM card (if present) were removed. No ,ention of viewing any footage was reported. If the drone was recording teen girls sunbathing in their yards as reported that could present some legal issues,, particularly if any of the girls were underage and nude or topless. FWIW I think modern recreational drones are an amazing tool and was really excited with the prospect of their use in disaster mapping, lost child or missing persons investigations.
  16. You made any decisions yet on which route to take BG? I had my semiannual eye exam today and was told I have cataracts as well but in the early stages, not far enough along to do anything with yet. The Doctor said if you live long enough you'll get them in one form or another.
  17. Not a good thing by any means and based upon the articles comments wasn't thought to be a threat, al in all another example of the restrictive gun laws in D.C.
  18. Kind of an upbeat video review...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_WUvAfJb-I
  19. Sometime back in the 1970's their was a big blow up over a front cover picture and subsequent article of a similar "non-attached" stock that ATF wasn't happy with. As best I recall it was a leather pocket and wood contraption with a long barreled S&W N frame in it and looked great. It also got a resounding thumbs down. I'll be interested in seeing if someone at ATF resurrects that ruling and apples it to this reinvention of synthetic materials.
  20. Congrats to you, the forestry departments a bit political but if you recognize that on the front end and understand how to work the system its all good. TN State Government jobs fall under the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) and its not bad at all. Look into the offered deferred compensation programs offered to you, they're a variant of a 401k, if your young enough use them.
  21. I can sympathize with the father who blasted the drone.
  22. What model number and caliber is it? The company websight looks nice and aside from the scalloped model the product line looks a bit C75isn. My take is the novelty factors good and if parts and magazines aren't an issue it'd be something to shoot extensively and post a review of here at TGO.
  23. Umm. OK, if your happy then I'm happy and FWIW the paired weapons look great.
  24. Maybe, maybe not but I sure can't deal with iced coffee...yuck. Of course the British Empire was built upon hot tea as it hydrated the person drinking it in hot and dry as well as hot and humid climates. But once it's past the breakfast coffee time I'm all about the iced tea! Sorry I missed the M&G, had to pull a midnight shift last night, hope another M&G comes around that I can attend.
  25. The Doctor's going to offer you two different choices on an unavoidable optical lens implant withe the premium choice being quite a lot more expensive. My spouse had undergone a LASIK procedure many years prior to her cataracts being diagnosed so she recognized the degraded vision she was experiencing. At her Doctors recommendation she went with the more expensive lens implants and afterwards complained her vision wasn't a whole lot better. I just remember it was super expensive even with vision insurance.
