Great pictures and a really nice bit of family history as well. I'd go ahead and finish a detailed cleaning of the rifle and repair the existing stock. There are a lot of different ways to repair the stock but if the rifles not going to be used anymore I'd glue and clamp it.

Yep, slides designed to lock back on empty chamber. Drop empty mag and release the slide just like your GLOCK. This can change with a worn mag follower or mag spring. As to the loaded mag not seating with the slide fully forward, that's not unusual and will happen with other pistols. It's generally most prevelant in a new pistol with new magazines. It can also occur with an older pistol and new magazines. What's happened is you've become a little complacent. That's more a reflection on having had a good run of luck than a training issue. The solution to the Shield mag problem is inserting the loaded magazine with the slide retracted and locked. The other solution is don't be gentle putting the problem magazine in, get mad and slam that thing in then slap the baseplate into next week. Or just try additional extra magazines until you find agreeable combinations to mark for that pistol.

For its size and utility the Ruger LCP which realisticaly is a bit nicer iteration of the equally nice KT P3AT. Absent this one I'd go with the Glock 42 which while larger is also easier to shoot a lot of rounds through then the LCP. I do lke the Pico but would still stay with the Glock. Now that the 380 ACP's been covered I'm going to point out that the 9mmP G-43 is only fractionally larger then the 380ACP G-42 so that's another consideration.

  If its a stock factory barrel the extra space is free floating to avoid unwanted barrel pressure which could affect your point of impact. Most folks only glass the actual receiver area and to the furthest pressure point in the barrel channel.

While the vacume table is a really useful tool it's not all that necessary when making a taco holster, but I do admit to being somewhat jelous. You mentioned a heat press is it something along these lines  http://www.bluegunstore.com/kydexheatpress-2.aspx   ?    If so then between the vacuum table and heat press you've tied up a lot of money on the front end of your holster making. Many other, myself included, use either a toaster oven or electric griddle coupled with a compression press set up. I'm pleased to see you having fun with the holsters.

Paste car or floor wax will do the job. Fully clean and degrease the metal surfaces and  apply the wax to the clean dry surface. Plug any empty screw holes or voids you don't want glassed. Don't get carried away hogging out the stock material as it only takes a little glass to do a proper job.

  In answer to you question it depends on whether the railed holster is designed to have a weapon light attached to the firearm when holstered. If so then the side tension will hold the gun in place but it will not be totally secure. If negative on the weapon mounted light then you'll be ok and a foam filler can easily be inserted in the rail recess should you have further concerns.

  Yes, I watched the video and the perceived distance between the shooter and victims in the first frames is questionable. The reality was unless the shooter was flashing a light or mirrored object at the three victims they wouldn't have noticed it. I've been around enough TV reporter and crew to know that pretty much none of them would have noticed someone outside of their direct line of sight in the same circumstances. It was a human interest story in a perceived safe area where they were unaware of their stalker. Most likely as not the female reporter who tried to run for her life had already been shot several times before fight/flight kicked in. What she and her cameraman were, were very young people who never thought what happened to them was ever going to happen to them.

  Yeah, had already read that but the fellow had sent the station a manifesto and made allegations. Often as not folks that off the tracks have been reported to law enforcement and been involved with some type of psych counseling or evaluation. My suspicions are there's a lot more information waiting to be leaked.

Well latest reports say the shooter has died. What's suprising is all the rapid influx of information on his anger control and instabillity issues all coming out at once. The guy had some serious mental health issues that seem to have fallen through the cracks.

OK. As I understand it you can use a BluRay player to view Netflix and other Web based outlets. Or you can use a Ruku box. Or you can use a designated computer. It seems like the player the OP has highlighted (thanks by the way) falls into the Ruku price range. So which is the better because I'm going to purchase one within the next few days.   BTW enfield I was on satelitte internet for years and finally went with an AT&T Hotspot WIFI link because it was cheaper and gave more bandwidth. Now I'm closer to town and on a more highspeed pipeline. You can use a good laptop to download all the shows you want to watch from your public library or another hotspot.

Yep. This little bugger in .22 WRM is on my short wish list of guns I'd like to buy. And at the $199 price Sam1 mentioned I am adding another novelty gun to the list.

It's a non issue with a rifle or shotgun and the Enfield rifles of WW-I/II-Korean/Malyasian Conflict were frequently volley fired using the middle finger of the right hand. As to handgun its doable in slow fire and can be developed further but learning to shoot with your weak hand will prove more productive. Your not the first shooter to have this problem and won't be the last just adapt and persevere.

Look, I've owned and shot a bunch of 1911's, most were/are Colt's, some parts gun's, a mix of surplus GI pistols and SA. The worst was a stainless steel monstrosity called a Vega. You'll get an occasional new gun that has issues with the more highly refined custom shop guns sometimes being more showpiece than functional.   Overall in this market for the money the guns coming out of the Philippines are great. They are marked under a lot of very familiar names as well so with a little research you can cut to the chase, go really basic and fit one out with your preferred sights and trigger. The early release R1 looked good and the price was right but I had no need for one. If you want one fine, if you just want a good 1911 then take some time to look.

That's because the 30 sf is a better bang for the buck with an XDs45 being everything the G-36 isn't. If you want a thin polymer 45 ACP handle the 36 and XDs45. It depends on what you want, I like the 36 and wouldn't be opposed to owning another but I like the XDs45 more.

A fellow working in a larger gun store cued me into the "such a thing a being gun poor" line of thought. That really started me on thinking through future purchases and realizing guns are just an inanimate object surrounded by a lot of hype. The same thing goes with high performance cars, motorcycles, boats and sports gear. If you've got the ready capital after taking care of other monetary obligations and want a G-23 than fine. If you don't buy it though another one will be available at another time. Sometimes just wanting to buy a particular gun is more entertaining than owning it.
