No, it's a completely different design only intended to superficially resemble the J-frame.

Mags and holsters aren't a problem, aftermarket stuff isn't as common as a Glock or M&P but its actually nice enough out of the box to use as it is. After viewing the pictures and video of the decocker lever I no longer have any concerns. The two springs would be my only concern, keep an eye on them or replace them with stronger springs and never worry. It takes a determined effort to make that decocker work, enough so I wouldn't bother deactivating it. A pair of stronger springs would suffice should I wish to make the decocker harder to activate.
-
While I'm sure someone could accidentally press the decocker in unintentional or hand placement on its upper rear slide I don't know how frequently that would happen. The same applies to the holstered pistol and person carrying such running into something. My personal observations were it took a rather intentional act to press down on the pistols decocker. Any concerns I would have would be whether the decocker design being used would be a potential mechanical failure point at some future point. Overall its proving itself to be a really good pistol.

Sort of a "Hey ya'll watch this" kind of moment I'd suspect....

Sorry, can't help you with the S&W Bodyguard 38 you ordered, were it a S&W J Frame I could say a lot though. Your more bold then I am though as that particular S&W isn't one I would have considered. I would recommend you do most of your wife's instruction and training with your S&W M-15 before she begins shooting the snub nosed revolver though and you'll both be the happier for it.

I like the looks of the pistol but the decocker version really didn't appeal to me enough to want one. The newer variant w/o the unusual decocker might very well be interesting enough for me to consider though.

The only .375 H&H I owned was a Ruger #1 Tropical Rifle, it was much more comfortable to shoot then the Ruger #1 in 45/70 or Browning M-78 in 45/70 I had. I was all into single shot rifles at one time. The very best .375 I ever had the opputunity to use was a pre-64 Winchester M-70. Yes, there was a noticable difference between the pre-64 and post-64 Winchester M-70's. If I were purchasing another .375 it'd be a CZ.

I like the latest leather projects you've shown here and am very impressed with the degree of molding and definition you achieved with them. This is something I'm still working with as I generall use boning tools and finger pressure but am experimenting with weighted foam. Are you hand stitching everything?

If your considering a B.S. in Computer Science and will be staying in Clarksville for the foreseeable future then go and scope out the program at APSU. Many of your courses can be done at the Ft. Campbell Center in and accelerated format. Some can be done online and for all of the bad mouthing you hear about APSU the B.S. degrees they offer in Computer Science and teaching are great. FWIW I recommend you consider the Computer Science path as well as being certified to teach. Going that route either gets you into a Middle School or High School teaching, then do the IT work on either a part time or contract basis. Additionaly theres the added benifit or having any and all student loans you've been paying on forgiven after ten continuous years of teaching. Depending on your present age its not a bad deal.
-
Not an IT guy but do know whose generally got an IT position open with benifits and such. In Clarksville you need to check for avalable openings with The City of Clarksville, Montgomery County Goverments IT, Montgomery County School System , Gateway Hospital and the local manufactures. Also check with APSU and some of the nearby Colleges. If you have the right background you'll find an opening. On the downside though you can do better pay wise in Nashville. It just depends on what you need.

I was thinking of all of the control line models I used to fly and watching R/C models being built and flown. Some of those were impressive, even so helicopter models. Then all these quad rotor drones came out and instead of building a kit people were buying a finished product. I never saw any critters or bugs being flown but I sure burned a bunch of fuel. I can still hear those R/C engines howling.

Well insofar as the Ruger American pistol goes the only real flaw as I see it at this time is the slide dropping when a magazine's vigorously slapped in to seat it. The longer trigger pull and reset is more of a learning the pistol issue and the complaints pertaining to shooters thumb knuckles are as well. But that aside you bring up a good point about new firearms hitting the marketplace with problems that should have been noticed in product testing. I don't like it but it is what it is, look at cars and such, same thing.

I like the looks of the rifle, not sure if I want one but am more then a bit intrested at this time.
-
You pretty much summed up what my thoughts to date are on the new Ruger pistol. I think everything glitch wise on it that concern me are going to be resolved but am also glad I hadn't planned on purchasing one any time soon. Insofar as the long trigger pull and long reset goes someone will have an aftermarket trigger out in no time at all. So I guess it depends on how quickly Ruger steps up and tweaks the design a bit.

http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-shop-press-33497.html You might want to look at either a 12 or 20 ton shop-press for your molding work. I have an excellent metal with foam inserts mold press I use for kydex and leather but would like more mold pressure. Some folks use a modified book press...the shop-press is hydraulic and a lot simpler. Your leather work skills are good.

Colorado rape victim challenges Obama's stand on guns

Overall he praised her courage and then turned it into a "but guns in the house are dangerous for kids" statement. That's pretty typical from a liberal who gets pinned to the wall. -
What is This? Solar/Compression Furnace Thingy
TNWNGR replied to Clod Stomper's topic in General Chat
Oh I can figure that formula out just fine as long as I have access to Google, Wikipedia and a couple of math sites. I even understand how the system works, but as me to write that stuff down in anything other then every day words...forget it....LOL -
Hickock45 always produces good video reviews and the above one's no exception. It's also firmly convinced me I don't have any interest in that particular .380.
-
It could have and realistically should have except for the fact the R-51 was rushed into the marketplace with known glitches and against the recommendations of some of its design team. As it is the R-51 is an expensive boondoggle and worth more as a potential collectors piece then anything else. To bad too.

What is This? Solar/Compression Furnace Thingy
TNWNGR replied to Clod Stomper's topic in General Chat
Ah ha! That's a thermo-syphon heat exchanger which works similaraly to a geo-thermal heater. External solar collectors transfer heat to a fluid which is pumped through the coils of the heater and said heat forced into your heat pump. Sidecariest pretty much summed up the rest. You can do almost the same thing by making a framebox with a glass cover, fill it with empty beverage cans you've painted black, place said box outside a window where the most sun is recieved. Then run a duct into the window and viola, very simple solar heat. I don't know how effective your set up there's going to be but suspect it didn't do well enough to be commercialy sucessful. I'd hang onto it for a bit as it might become somewhat valualbe in the future. -
Cinimatic special effects folks have been using punamatic guns to shoot arrows for a long time now so its not suprising the concepts finally gotten to the point of commercial marketing. I like it, if it becomes cost effective I'd like to have one to see how well it preforms. Given the current state of technology in crossbows used for hunting this "air gun" bolt thrower isn't that far of a step beyond.

Yeah, I've got one of those I inherited from my father and not only will it kick you into the next Zip code prefix it's also got a wandering zero. The rubber butt pad was supposed to help with recoil but even when said recoil pad was new and not the now ossified hard rubber it still kicked.

S&W 3rd Gen 59 Series 9mm magazine opinions, please!
TNWNGR replied to Kevo's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
The last 3rd gen S&W M-39 I owned was a 3913 which I loved and regret not hanging on to. I also regret not having the foresight to pick up a 5906 before they were discontinued. But at the time everything I was issued, routinely shot and even carried off duty was a Glock. I made the decision to focus on that sole platform in training courses and practice. Now though I rarely even touch a Glock pistol. Overall I'm pretty turned off by polymer pistols or striker fired pistols in all persuasions. It'd be nice to see S&W do a "Classic" Model release of the 5906 and 3913 again, I believe they'd probably sell enough to be worth the effort. -
With respect to the Ruger New Americians (Modular Fire Control Group) Chassis I'm wondering if the manufacturer is considering optional frame shell offerings. From the little I've encountered to date removing and replacing a Ruger NA chassis appears to involve a bit more fiddly work then with a SIG 320. All of that of course is subject to a design modification if said interchangeability becomes a consideration.
