  1. I think I'm going to go with the medium grit spyderco ceramic bench stone. From what I've read just today, it's fairly easy to destroy diamond stones with too much pressure, improper break in, etc. The ceramic stones are supposed to give good feedback and last forever with no flat spots like soft stones. May be something good for me to learn on. I played around a bit more today with my pocket diamond stone and was able to get a decent edge. Not paper slicing but close. The surface area is just so small for inexperienced hands to get any feedback.
  2. Yeah I've looked into the wicked edge but there's no way I can justify the cost at this point. But it's AWESOME. I'm sort of answering my initial question with this comment but I'd guess since bushcraft / camping is my main motivation for learning this skill, I should probably go with learning freehand method. I think I'd have the patience to learn it but I clearly need to learn up on it a bit before purchasing.
  3. So I mentioned in another post that I'm getting an LT Wright Genesis. Well I actually cancelled that order and got the Next Gen instead, but that's beside the point of this post. I am looking to improve my sharpening capabilities. My current kit consists of the Spyderco sharp maker with the standard medium and fine rods. I also have a Smith's pocket diamond sharpener that I keep in my bag just in case. I feel like I am making my knives less sharp at this point. My main pocket knife is S30V so I suspect the ceramic rods of the Sharpmaker aren't doing much. I feel like I've made progress on a few knives that are 1095 but even then, nothing great. I figure it's possible that my current angles don't match up with the 30 ro 40 degrees the sharpmaker offers. I also have a few custom knives that are stainless but I am unsure of the variety. This LT knife is going to be A2 steel. Should I just by a decent set of slabs with base and learn how to do it by hand/feel (this is my uninformed / preferred path) or try some type of guided system? Any recommendations? I don't want to spend more than $200 but want to get good stuff that will last. If that means buying over time, so be it.
  4. I’m actually excited to have a steel that will patina over time.
  5. Anyone have experience with LT Wright Knives? I’ve been in the hunt for a good all around camp/bushcraft knife and this one seems to fit the bill. A bit pricier than what I’m used to but seems on the inexpensive side relative to other more custom knives it is similar to. I ordered this morning so hope to build a fire with it next weekend. 4.25” blade. 9” overall. A2 steel Scandi grind
  6. Worst part is that the scope arrived today but the rings didn’t.
  7. I imagine I beat a few of us in the area.
  8. None at all. I have it on a Madd Mac’s mount but never tried it with the stock rail. It’s a good bit lower to the gun though.
  9. Yeah, I’ll own the clickbait on this one….
  10. My Dead Air Mask that is….. I just picked up the Ruger Precision Rimfire the other day from a member and got the 22/45 a while back as a planned host for the Mask. I’m still waiting on my scope to come in but it’s safe to say I’m in .22lr heaven.
  11. As the title says, I’m looking for a 10x SS scope. I bought a 10x a while back and love it on my 6.5 Creedmoor. I’m now looking for one to put on my newly acquire ruger precision rim fire. I see they do have them in stock but a used deal would suit me better.
  12. Selling my base model (64gb), Space Grey, iPad Air 5 with Zugu case and the gen 2 Apple Pencil. It’s all in excellent shape and used mainly around the house. Basically been in a case since day one. Since getting a new MacBook, I don’t use it much. SOLD
  13. I bought this mic a few months ago and haven’t even used it more than an hour. Basically brand new with the box. Pics to come. $310 shipped or $300 local in the Memphis area.
  14. I don’t believe that is limited to young people. I think it’s many people. Possibly even a majority of us.
  15. I've struggled with this for years with my wife. She is definitely concerned with "self protection" but less so on the armed front. She can shoot fairly and effectively (that's relative of course) shoot a handgun but has no real interest in getting advanced training either from myself or a third party. We finally had the conversation of their being certain instances where she does carry and certain ones she doesn't. Example: I don't want her to be in a situation where she may feel led to employ a firearm in our crowded church on a Sunday morning if the need arose. I'm there as well as many others who can handle the offense. She doesn't have the training to do that safely and effectively BUT does have a knowledge on what to do in those situations. She DOES however carry on normal work days and many other instances where there is little chance of that type of collateral damage from a poor decision. I wish I could convince her to do more but it hasn't happed over 12 years so it probably isn't haha. That said, there are MANY MANY people that I have instructed on firearm basics where my end recommendation was for them to not carry until they either practiced a good bit more or sought out training. I may catch flack for that from some but I don't want my loved ones and friends in a position of a bad shoot or hurting bystanders over a false sense of ability.
  16. I’d guess it’s probably powder coated from the factory. That said, there isn’t much Krylon won’t stick to. If you just want to cover bare metal indoors. That’s what I’d use.
  17. I keep a couple of medicine bottles filled with cotton balls rolled in petroleum jelly. They make great fire starters and burn much longer than cotton or dryer lint alone.
  18. I’m continually amazed at how people can distort the Bible to this degree. He and his supporters clearly haven’t read it.
  19. He actually seemed to call himself black Jesus if I understood it correctly.
  20. Pearson actually seemed to do the same thing. Granted I haven’t heard him speak much outside of the latest videos, it does seem to be somewhat of a show.
  21. When we were building our house back in 2016 (West TN) this was laying in my driveway as I was walking back. I assume this is an Alligator snapping turtle???
  22. It’s hosted by Double Tap Training Grounds in Calera. Looks like they have a pretty cool indoor shoot house.
