  1. i just don't see that being faster than using the release. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I have been experimenting with using either hand to drop the slide on a fresh mag and am just wondering what most of you guys do? I'm talking competition shooting here too so I am assuming that most don't rack the slide.   I find that going back and forth between an M&P and 1911 would lend itself better to support hand due to the fact that I cannot get a 1911 to drop with my strong hand without drastically changing my grip.   I do however have a faster reload with my M&P using my strong hand. I realize that can change with practice though.   Just wondering what everyone else is doing or trying.
  3. How in the world did I miss registration for this?!?!?!  :wall:
  4. I went by there last night and honestly the 64 gun cannon safe may fit the bill. I realize it's not as heavy of a steel as a liberty but for about $1000 less overall It makes for a tough decision hmmmm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. That's actually where I looked. I'll probably end up going with them if I get a liberty. Just easier than buying online from a big box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I am looking to purchase a new safe under $2000 delivered and ready to go. I have almost landed on a Liberty Fatboy Jr. but am still doing research to see if I can find something comparable or better for a better price. Cabela's has rebranded fanboys that I can get delivered to my house for $1604. I can get it in the house from there but am not ruling out getting inside delivery if offered.   I know you should always buy bigger than what you think you need but at this point I can't fit anything bigger and several years from now I may just buy a second safe anyways once I feel certain we won't be moving anytime soon.
  7. Awesome. I'll hopefully make this one if I have work squared away by then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. They are about to jerk the rug out from under some folks with Glenn. They want you to think he's untouchable but I believe his is coming and it ain't a nice way to go...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I have a Delrin punch I normally use but for some reason those shield sights are in there. It was just chipping it away with each punch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I'll just say that if you disassemble the sear and trigger bar you can polish it into a decent trigger. My shield is a newer one with an ok trigger but polishing that really helped. I was gonna do the striker block too but getting that rear sight off is a bear and didn't mess with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. How many stages do you guys normally run? Just getting an idea on round count.
  12.     I'll check those out. Hopefully I can get my hand on one installed locally and give it a feel. I am also looking at ambi safeties now trying to decide if I want/need one. The few I've felt I didn't care for but that was before I really had any time on a 1911. It would only be for competition purposes when shooting offhand but I just don't see many stages being set where I have to pick up the loaded gun on safe with my weak hand. Any other time I'm fine with transitioning without putting it on safe. Any thoughts?
  13. Reading over the CDP rules for IDPA it looks like I can add a magwell and basepads to my mags as long as it fits in the box and doesn't weigh over 43oz total. I am looking for a light and minimal magwell. Just something to aid in reloads but not big and bulky. Anyone have any suggestions to start with? I have never messed with magwells so I don't know where to begin.
  14. If you are buying new I'd go with Henry. If you can get an older Marlin in good shape I prefer them. Fit and finish on the new Marlins just doesn't feel the same to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I won't disagree with that. All of the reputable ones are in Nashville that unknown of though. I'm gonna put about 500 more through it and note the results. Depending on how that goes I may just have to make a drive or mail it off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Well I can't help but to tinker so I went out and bought some 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper along with some mothers mag polish. I polished up the feed ramp along with the barrel ramp and inside of the chamber. I colored a round red and chambered it to see where the contact points were and made sure to polish those spots very well with special attention to not change any angles.   Out of 100 rounds I only had one hang up on the very last round of a Wilson 47D mag but that may very well have been limp wristing. No more failures to feed when racking it manually and it also fed Federal HST's with no problem. Oddly enough it fed them better and smoother.    I almost think the issue may have been stemming from not only the things I have corrected or fixed so far but from ammo that isn't crimped enough. Almost like when the bullet hits the ramp it's pushed in enough that rather than going up like it should it is staying lower on the ramp just long enough for the barrel to go forward and get ahead of the whole process thus causing a 3 point jam. I won't claim to know the in's and out's of the platform but I think through all of this I am gaining an understanding of how it works.   I will put another couple hundred rounds through it before I feel confident to put it on bedside duty but I am happy to have smoothed it out.
  17. I do have a set but they are back in Nashville along with all my other useful stuff haha. I have 150 more rounds so I may just shoot those through it. I manually cycled all the mags again and they didn't hang so it may just be a break in thing now. I am hesitant to do anything to the frame feed ramp since that is not replaceable. I may polish the barrel itself a bit of I still have problems in the next 150. I guess I just have to realize it isn't a glock hahaha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Well I got i back from Ruger today. They said the replaced the ejector and repaired / tuned the extractor. It has noticeably less tension than before. I lightly sprayed some lube in the gun and went out for the first 50 rounds. I had about 5-6 that did the same thing as before. Bullet seems to be catching either on the feed ramp or barrel ramp.    I thought maybe I didn't have enough lube so I came back in and cleaned it followed by a generous amount of oil. The next 50 rounds went through without one ftf. Great I thought! After coming back in and cleaning/lubing again I tried to manually cycle a few rounds through it and the problems returned. When dropping the slide from lock on a full mag I got it to do the same thing a few times. It's definitely better but I can't help but think I may need to just lightly polish either the feed ramp or the barrel ramp. I will attach some pics that show the markings that are being left on the bullet. The pic I have actually shows two markings on one bullet as I fed it twice.   I'll also attach some pics of my new grips for you guys that just like pictures. I am hesitant to send it back to Ruger again in hopes of an easy fix. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.
  20. I have a complete bcg from them but I ordered it from eBay. It has ran fine though as far as quality goes. Never had to contact them though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I just found out that Road Master in Millington actually gives the road tests and will furnish a truck for a fee. I'd prefer to be familiar with the truck before hand but I'll take what I can get.
  22. My father in law has his cdl so he will luckily be able to get the truck to the test. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23.   i may end up just getting a class B since i can more easily find that size truck with air brakes. Then just trying to get an A if the job requires it using their equipment. I am not planning on driving OTR or anything. Just as a supplement to a city job.
  24. Does anyone know of a place I can rent a truck and trailer for my CDL road test in the Memphis area? I will be taking the knowledge tests this week and just don't see any other way to get a truck for the road portion. This can't be an uncommon thing to encounter. Thanks.
  25. Well she is on her way back to ruger. I have no doubt they will get it fixed up. I did shoot the rest of my factory reloads this morning with only a few ftfs. I'm not to down about it. My holster won't be in for a few weeks and I ordered a personalized set of aluma grips that won't be in for a few weeks as well. I'm just glad I got to shoot it at all and other than this problem I am ecstatic about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
