Church/Volunteer Security Teams

Awesome. What about hardware? I assume there are nicer solutions for earpieces and such to keep everything fairly low key and hidden. -
Church/Volunteer Security Teams
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Survival and Preparedness
What method / equipment would you recommend for communication? -
Evening folks. I’m hoping to gather some thoughts from those of you who have experience with a church security team. We currently have one at my church but are looking to make some changes and/or improvements. I’d appreciate any and all feedback or tips that you’ve learned along the way but I do have a few pointed questions. •Do the individuals that serve on this team serve every service or is their some form of rotation? • is there a required level of training either firearm or situational?

Upgraded to Lifetime HCP.
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That’s pretty much my motivation. If the government decides my HCP doesn’t matter anymore then I don’t think it’ll matter if it’s lifetime or a term period. I do foresee the costs rising. I’m just trying to spend a buck time save a buck I guess. -
I’ve been putting of my lifetime upgrade due to the lack of an online upgrade option. I discovered today that is no longer the case so I dropped the $200. I’m wondering if the state is slick enough to raise the prices within a year or two in response to the obviously growing demand. Seems like a sure fire way to increase income.

Yeah it’s been at least a month since I started catching wind it was happening again. I’ve been accused of hoarding by people I work with who are now complaining about it. Bought plenty of TP, paper towels, and all the other stuff that I need when the shelves were stocked full. I also remember there being plenty left behind me and TOLD them all this was coming again. I like to think that if my real reason for stocking up is preparation and general unwillingness to search for TP, then I’m merely prepared and not a hoarder.

Thanks. Ruger American .308.

Bringing it back for this year. I took this bad boy about 10 minutes ago! I get to sit here for another 3 hours now so as to not mess everyone else up going out.

CWD Gun seasons starts tomorrow!
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Wow. Challenge accepted. I’m already hunting on a landowner exemption so I’d be making money at that point. I’ll have to look into that. -
I just recently discovered that regular season opens tomorrow in Unit CWD. It was a very pleasant surprise. Anyone know if this was in effect last year as well?

Need a sight recommendation for my AR-15
maroonandwhite replied to LagerHead's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
In that price range the Romeo 5 is hard to beat. If you can spend a little more I really like a 1-6x optic with a throw lever these days. A Vortex Strike Eagle is great for the money. -
Looks like my wait for a 51T brakeout just got a lot longer. LOL

Yep. I didn’t make nearly enough preparation when I had the chance last time so hopefully I’ll get another chance.

SBR travel with 16” barrel??
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
That all makes sense but I’m not sure it applies to this situation. Maybe it does. Is my registered SBR lower considered a pistol that I can turn into an SBR by adding a stock less than 16” barrel? Seems like this would never come up if the rifle was inspected but for some reason but you never know. -
SBR travel with 16” barrel??
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Sorry but I didn’t realize my misuse of state in that phrase. State as in the current build of the rifle, not the actual state in the U.S. -
I came across a couple of postings on another site but can’t seem to find any proper documentation on this matter. The question is if I have an SBR filed lower configured in a state that would not define it as an SBR (16” barrel), could I then travel with it and use it as if it weren’t an SBR?

RCBS Uniflow 3 and stick powder
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I tinkered with it more last night and think I finally found a rhythm with the stick powder. Once I developed a little muscle memory for when the “catch” comes on the up stroke I was able to apply a little more pressure to shear off the powder. Im still eventually going to get a beam scale and powder trickled but for now I can make do with a slight variation. It seems to be about +- .03grains. Im impressed with it though. With flake or ball it’s dead nuts consistent. I’m about to experiment with some 125 grain bullets in the .308. I normally shoot 180’s but just for fun I want to see how the lighter bullets behave. -
RCBS Uniflow 3 and stick powder
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I don’t have any other stick powder to compare but it seems like this 3031 is extra thick. Like it would be tough to shear it off. Even with a firm movement it will just stop it in place occasionally. -

Recommend a trickler? I know they are a simple thing but the RCBS looks the best built to me. I’m also considering a beam scale over a digital but for now my little digital Hornady will get the job done. -
I just setup my new UPM-3 today and am having some (expected) trouble when using stick powder. IMR 3031 in particular. I’m doing the break in process by running 1-2lbs of powder through it to get a layer of graphite on the surfaces. On almost every pull it hangs up when trying to “cut” the charge. It seems to be common sense that this is going to happen with larger sticks of powder as opposed to flake or ball powder. Are there any tricks out there or is this just the nature of the beast. The charges can be up to 1 gr higher when this happens. With flake powder they are almost perfect.

I’ll also second that heat will likely be your friend in this case. Penetrating oil, heat, then get a quality screw extractor and it should come out. I’m just shocked that it stripped of it was a torx head. Must be soft metal and some hefty thread locker. You may also consider drilling it all the way through but that’s a job for a good drill press and a steady hand. Not sure of that model so that may not be an option.

Ha! 31 episodes!? That’s really like three more seasons. Maybe they’ll send it off on a high note.

Show and Tell - New Reloading Bench
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I had that one or the Uniflow in my sights. I just have to wait on everything to come back in stock haha. I may wait until my RCBS rebate comes in and then splurge on everything. I’ve spent enough as is. -

maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I’m actually going to get a new scale as well. I’ve been using a small Hornady digital scale but am considering a nicer beam scale or at least a nicer digital scale. I’m pretty much only lacking that and a nicer powder measure. I’m still researching those. I put my trimmer on a leftover piece of 2x10 so I could easily dump brass shavings. -

I’m going to have to build up some more supplies. I hate that I sold most of my stuff when I got out of pistol reloading.
