Have made the wife mad.
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Ok. well I'll probably indulge her then. Thanks -
My wife is wanting to go to the Zoo Lights deal at the Memphis Zoo and go ice skating and all that good stuff but I explained I can't carry in there and just don't want to go at night. I'm not really familiar with the area but just how bad is that area? I normally try to stay away from anywhere that I can't carry but she is really wanting to go.

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone can offer advice on good public duck hunting in my area. I live in Moscow but will obviously have to travel a little ways off. I always hunt is Mississippi but the $500 plus to get sportsman license is a little much. I have my deer hunting locked down but don't know where to begin on this. I just don't want to show up at one of the WMA's and have someone that doesn't take kindly to "outsiders" let the air out of my tires. (Has happened before) Thanks!

The dales and liquid smoke combo turned out pretty good but I made the mistake of grounding it then soaking it. It took forever to strain it and it seems like i lost half the meat. Good flavor but next time I will go with whole muscle jerky or dry mix if I ground it up.

I think I'll try the high mountain next. I have a batch on today with just dales and liquid smoke. I like mine kind of salty so maybe this will turn out good. thanks for the info

I can't stop watching it. HILARIOUS!!

I just made my first batch of deer jerky ever. It turned out okay but didn't have that flavor I remember when eating it growing up. I used seasoning salt, salt and pepper on half of the batch and added worcestershire sauce to the other half. I liked it without w. sauce better as it was too salty. Any tips or recipes to try? I plan on using half dales and half liquid smoke on the next batch.

Have never more than a few shots with the taurus slim's but it didn't feel terrible in my hands despite its size. I have read plenty of the bad on taurus as well but am having great luck with my millennium pro. That does seem pretty high of a price though but I would give it a try. My next few handguns will probably be a taurus unless something happens.

maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Oh I made a mistake. I was meaning I can't find the Hydra Shock ammo. Not HST. Any help with this? -

Bass Pro attendant on 9mm ammo
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I just can't seem to find the Federal HST anywhere. Have never ordered handgun ammo online and have checked everywhere I can think of (which is limited) but Guns and Ammo in the Memphis area for it. -
Bass Pro attendant on 9mm ammo
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I half expected him to try and sell me more expensive ammo if they had it in stock but that was a new one for me. Come to think of it it was almost kind of rude..... but i'm a big boy and he gave me something to post about haha -
I recently went to Bass Pro to buy some personal defense ammo and as usual they were basically out of stock of everything in 9mm. They had the Remington Golden Saber HJP +P (can't remember the grain) and the 147 grain HJP. I asked the attendant his opinion on them as I have never really shot anything other than the Fiocchi's I picked up when I bought the gun and the walmart value packs. He said "it's better than nothing but if it were me i'd feel safer leaving here buying another caliber gun that we did have Hornady (higher priced) ammo for and then getting that ammo." I went ahead and bought the 147 grain after he explained a +P round in a 3" barrel would only blind me even though I was skeptical of his knowledge after that last statement. Is there anything wrong with the Golden Saber ammo or was this guy just trying to sell me more expensive ammo and/or another gun?

carrying with safety off?
maroonandwhite replied to True Grit's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I tend to always put my safety on before holstering just in case anything gets in the trigger guard and snags the trigger. I know this shouldn't happen if I take care in putting the gun in the holster but it's just in my head I guess. I would go with whatever makes you feel more comfortable and in control of your weapon but i'm no expert. I also don't see any noticeable difference with it on or off as far as response goes but every gun has a different safety. -
Thoughts on the Gerber Parablade I
maroonandwhite replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
Haha yeah I meant paraframe and thanks for the info. I was looking at the Vallotton but it seemed kind of gimmicky and cheap. -
I just bought one of the off online. Haven't got it yet but just wondering what you guys think of the cheaper Gerber knives. I'm just using it for cutting plastic bands on boxes at work mostly but I think it looks like a pretty sturdy knife if I had to use it in a defense situation. I bought the straight blade too.

Anyone know of a mag extension that will fit the millenium pro PT111. I bought some one time that "fit" but I had to force them on. Everyone I look at says "not for millenium pro"
-
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but on the Heinie website they show using the six o'clock hold on the straight eights. I have firesights on my PT111 now but shot the straight eights for a while and always found it shooting low using the six o'clock hold. I'm about to put them back on as I have broke one of the beads on the firesights. This is kind of pointless as I know I can aim dead on and hit my target but I guess I'm just curious if I am doing something wrong. Also note when I shot the straight eights and was shooting low I was taking care not to pull down the barrel when shooting.

I can sympathize with the OP. My wife is the same way sometimes but anytime there is a strange noise outside or a suspicious individual with an eye on us she is very comforted knowing I am armed. Stay strong man haha.

I bought my Taurus PT111 about a year and a half ago and the guy I bought it from had some type of stick on felt grip one it. It didn't look like a piece of felt you'd get at a craft store. It looked like it may have been made for a handgun grip but I took it off because I didn't like how it looked. Noe I have a kholster i've "combat cut" and the grip on it is eating my side up. Anyone know where I may can find this material or any better solutions. Also I don't where undershirts so that isn't an option. Thanks

Hi. Ben from Moscow(right outside Memphis) I mainly do all my shooting at home but venture to the range every now and then. I carry a Taurus pt111 and am currently helping the wife get her carry permit.

I like the TWRA range in Bartlet. I haven't been to any others but every time i've been it was never crowded. You can't use your holster is my only complaint but I live in the country so I can practice that outside.
