This is where we fight? Confiscation topic.
Donnie replied to Punisher84's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've only got one gun that's "on the books" and I conviently lost it in a poker match to some other guy a couple years ago. I don't remember his name, but you can try and find him if you want. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. -
I'm on XD Talk as well, not as much as I used to, but there nonetheless

My opinion is that the right training will be better than no training at all. If you have had to shoot someone in defense of your life, and it is a clear cut case of self defense, I don't believe the state will go after you very hard. A lawyer in a civil case will be more apt to try and paint an ugly picture of you. In the civil case, a lawyer will use either the lack of training or the training classes you've had to make you look bad. If you haven't taken any training, the lawyer will portray you as reckless and an idiot with a gun. If you've taken classes, then they will more than likely go the rambo route. Even your choice of ammo will be a factor. They might say that the hollow points that you used to shoot their client's now dead husband were intended to cause more damage, rather than the argument from your side that they don't overpenetrate and endanger innocent bystandards. Your choice of firearm will play a role as well. They'll bring up that the defendant's weapon had 17 rounds in it and that they were looking for a firefight. There are so many variables that can go either way, depending on which way you want to look at it.

Both eyes open for me when shooting a non-scoped gun.

Middle Tenn. TGO members interested in a monthly get together?
Donnie replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
I can try and make it whenever I can. Maybe molonlabetn and myself can ride up together. -
Watched this movie over the weekend. It's great. Epic movie that will be purchased when it comes out on DVD. Took the wife to see it and gave her an education on the actual battle that the movie was based on.

Here's where he's hanging out now http://9x19mm.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14

Looks like he isn't used to a bike with some power. Those GSXR 1000s are light and have ALOT of power. There's a guy on another board that pretty much sums it up. He said "I guess he's used to riding Harleys and isn't aware that that twisty thing on the right side is more than a volume control on a sportbike"

I've got to get all dressed up and go to a formal banquet in Nashville tonight for Century 21. Looks like I'll be getting the suit out of the closet and miss the opening night of this movie. Maybe I'll get to see it next weekend when the wife comes back in town after she gets back from her business trip next week.

Excellent point James. Perfect practice makes perfect. Bad practice reinforces bad habbits. I've been shooting for a long time and hope that I don't have any bad habbits that I will regret when I go to the TGO Only fighting pistol class in May. I'm coming in with an open mind and hope to learn as much as my brain can handle.

Yep, what they said. Welcome, make yourself right at home.

I know of no cops that carry in a cross draw holster. Several of them that I know have a left hand holster mounted to the center console of their car for either another pistol or their duty weapon just in case they need their pistol quickly while in the car.

Ok, I'll bite. I prefer big fast moving bullets. I'm not in favor of the slow heavy thing, but the big fast thing. I like the .40 S&W and .45 ACP. In both of these calibers I choose to have a lighter round (200 grain +P in .45 and 155 grain in .40) that travels faster giving a flatter trajectory. In theory, the lighter bullets will shed their energy faster and are less likely to overpenetrate and still have the diameter to cause more tissue damage. The .357 Sig has peaked my interest as well but I haven't had a chance to shoot that particular cartridge. I have owned 9mm guns in the past, but favor the larger calibers. I believe in shot placement rather than shot count.

I'd love to, but by the time I got there after I got off from work, it would be pretty late. Beautiful day here as well. Makes you want to "get sick" at work.

I'll make a recommendation for the CTAC. Here's a couple pics of me with my Service size XD.40 and just a t-shirt for concealment.

I've started carrying OWB with my 1911 in a Safariland pancake style slide holster. It's not as concealable as the XD in an IWB, but it does the job well as it holds the gun real close to the body.
-
Since I've started carrying my new 1911, I carry carry it in the same positon as the XD at 4 o'clock but OWB instead of IWB. I use a Safariland pancake slide style holster for it and it holds it real close to the body.

M&P's use parts from CMT just like RRA. Stag is the storefront brand for CMT and they make high quality parts.

Wish mine was that easy:rolleyes: I put a free floated rail on mine. We took the barrel off and the gas tube out. We had to cut off the delta ring and the foreward handguard stay. We installed the front part of the quad rail mount "donut" and put the gas tube through it. We then put the barrel and gas tube back onto the upper. We then put the upper quad rail and lower rail on the upper. After we did all this, the holes didn't want to line up in the front "donut" and it took a few minutes with loosening up and trying to roatate everything to line up. It's good now that I've done it, but halfway through the installation, I'd almost wished that I got the quad rail that replaced the factory handguards.

The vertical foregrip gives you a better, more comfortable hold of the weapon. It also aids in keeping better control of it when it's close to your body like when looking around corners. I know that it looks like it wouldn't be as comfortable as a regular hold on the gun, but it is.

At the place I was renting last year, a woman got killed by some dogs just a mile or so up the road. I'm always carrying when outside be it because of dogs, coyotes, snakes, skunks, or whatever might try and harm myself or my family (or make us smell really bad). I don't just let our poodle outside by herself as there are some really large owls and hawks here as well. There was a bear that was hit by a car up in Sewanee last year and a few people have reported some mountain lions up in the mountains a few miles from here. You never know what you might come up on anymore. Here's a link about the attack. http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/20060509-102233-7289r/

Replacing the factory plastic pistol grip on my AR is on my short list of things to get.

My wife will occasionally shoot with me, but it's really only once or twice a year. She doesn't think that training will do anything for her, but I've tried to put it into her head that you fall back on what you practice in stressfull situations. I might get through to her someday, even just to shoot more with me and our son.
