  1. I guess it is, being that I paid roughly $20 for a box of 20 - 200 grain +p .45acp.
  2. I really like my CTAC for my XD. I can conceal a service size with just a T-shirt.
  3. You'll be happy with the Speer Gold Dots. You got a good price on it.

    swapped guns

I didn't enjoy. The gun shot good, but I just couldn't get used to the flat trigger. I was thinking about putting in a regular curved trigger, but while at the local gun shop, talking to some friends and looking at a new trigger, the owner said he'd trade me for another 1911. The full size 1911 with the adjustable sights was kinda hard for me to carry, as it was on the heavy side and the square edged adjustable sights would dig into my side. I am now the proud owner of a Smith & Wesson 1911SC Commander. He traded the SC and a good amount of boot for the DK. It's all black and has the Novac low mount carry sights on it. It's SOOOOOOO much easier to carry as it's lighter and the sights are more rounded on the sides. I'll get some rounds through it in a day or so. I think that I'll be happeir with the light commander.
  5. James, what kind of pistol would you recommend that I take and how many magazines and mag holders? I have a Springfield XD .40 that is factory ported and I have a Smith&Wesson 1911SC Commander. The XD has a higher capacity and I carry it on duty, but I carry my 1911 off duty (which is most of the time as I'm a reserve deputy). I know that you recommend 1000 rounds, but is there any long strings of fire that I would have to have more than 2 extra magazines for the 1911??
  6. That sounds very interesting. I'll do some checking about my schedule, well and approval from the family financial and planning administrator (the wife)
  7. Well, hello from across the mountain in Winchester.
  8. I have put an XD .45ACP in my Comp-Tac CTAC and a yakuri (sp?) slide that I have for my .40 service and it fit just fine. I do believe that the .45ACP guns are a little wider, but not that much different to require a different holster.
  9. Thanks, I never noticed the little dot in the box.
  10. I'll tell you one thing that I'd like to see. An icon or check or something that lets you know if you've posted on a thread.
  11. Dan would probably let you try an XD.45 ACP in your holsters and the holsters that he has in stock if you make your way back over here any time soon.
  12. I feel the same way that Tungsten and molonlabetn feel on this one. I have a 4" XD .40 and just traded off a Sub-Compact XD .40. The Sub-Compacts are very concealable and you can conceal a 5" Tactical about as easy as a 4" service. The Compact .45 is about the best of the bunch. The grip on the Compact isn't that much larger than the Sub-Compacts (there's a thread over on the XD board with pics comparing the two) and offer a longer sight radius for better accuracy, not to mention .45 ACP punch.
  13. Welcome, hope you like it on here. It's a great bunch of people.
  14. It shouldn't be as hard to clean from here on out. You were probably cleaning a lot of copper fouling from the past. How long have you had this rifle and was it used / surplus when you got it??? Some of the surplus rifles aren't cleaned very well when you get them and it takes some time to thoroughly clean them up.
  15. That would make an excellent 3 gun weapon. There was a good 1187 over there the other day that a guy had on consignment that was outfitted well.
  16. Just got rid of a Beretta 1201FP. I'll probably get me a good 870 or 1187 in the future.
  17. Welcome. Hope you enjoy it here
  18. Sorry that you're having such a rough time with James. I had him install my sights over a year ago, before all the "problems". You might be able to drift the sights over (if you can) if it is just shooting to the side and is OK with the elevation.

    S&W 1911

+1 on the Rock Island 1911s The friend of mine that has the Commander sized SC runs a gun shop down here in Winchester. He sells all the Rock Islands that he can get his hands on and actually prefers them to the "mil-spec" versions of some of the bigger names like Colt and Springfield. They are a great bang for the buck gun.
  20. I've still got the stock recoil spring in my ported .40 and have no problem with it. I've considered going to a full length guide rod in it to experiment with the recoil and followup shots, but haven't gotten around to it. I can see a big advantage like, molonlabetn has said, if you compete and reload your own rounds. If you like the bunny fart rounds, you can have a light spring that would make them function unlike a stiff factory spring.

    S&W 1911

Yep. I've shot a 5" S&W (mine) and a friend's Commander length SC. They're good guns and I've yet to have any problems with mine, though I've only got about a hundred rounds through it. His Scandium framed commander is very light compared to my Stainless framed 5" and he's had it for a couple years without any problems. He has an extended barrel on his and has a supressor for it as well. The only problems he has ever had is when the supressor is mounted up and the slide doesn't want to lock back on the last shot.
  22. Since I just traded off my Sub-Compact XD and got a 1911, I have been carrying 200 grain +P Speer Gold Dots in it.
  23. My wife used to have a Kahr PM9. It was very concealable and light. It shot very well but the grip was a bit small for my hands. The trigger was horrible compared to the other guns that I own. LONG double action pull that had probably 8 or 9 pounds of pull throughout it's travel. My wife wanted something smaller with a lighter trigger, so she now packs a Kel-Tec P32. For what it's worth, it is an excellent concealable gun that is a bit too big for pocket carry if you can get used to the trigger.
  24. I always inform, as a courtsey to the officer and for my safety of course. If you don't tell them that you're armed, reach for your wallet, your cover garmet moves, and then they see a gun - then things might not turn out the way you want.
  25. Did y'all have a good match??? How was turnout?
