I did it! Woot! I told my son I'd give him 5$ to fill up a mason jar with bullets dug out of my range's burm. I sorted the rocks out and cracked open any solid copper jackets and threw them on the pot. The hotplate I got wasn't hot enough so I had to finish on the camp stove but I was able to get 2 muffin sized ingots. I let them cool too long and ended up ripping out two of the molds on the muffin tin but got it right on the second try. All in all it was pretty cool and a lot easier that I had imagined. Thanks to everyone for all your help.

So I thought I would dip my toe in the waters of casting. I rounded up the necessary equipment to pour some lead ingots and try that out before I cast bullets. The only thing left for me to do was get some lead so I called all of the tire and auto garages in the area to see about wheel weights. None, and I mean none of the shops claimed to have any. I'm sure they were holding them for someone else but not one would sell me any. I say sell because after I asked to pick them up and they told me no, I offered to pay to remove them. Anyone else having this issue? Or are you guys getting there before I call?

I kind of figured they'd be inexpensive. I just didn't want to get the wrong kind and sit watching a pot of wheel weights heat up and not melt.

What type of hot plate are you using? I guess the better question would be how much wattage do I need to melt the lead?

How many rounds can you fill with a pound of powder? -
Really? I was looking in to joining if it wasn't too difficult.

Could you break that down for me? Every time I try to price it out I only see about a 2 cent per round savings. 20$ per 1000 rounds in savings just isn't worth my time. Now if I could cut my costs in half that would be a different story. -
I have quite a bit of 9mm brass setting in a tub in my basement. Somewhere around 2000 count I think. I've looked online and have seen quite a bit of difference in the prices. Just curious about what people would pay. I am interested in reloading but I just don't think reloading 9mm target loads would be worth my time.

http://www.concealed-carry.net/ http://www.onlinegunclass.com/tennessee.php Does this hold up? Kind of looks like it does. I already have my TN permit but I know a lot of folks that complain about the time issue of an 8 hour course. If this is legit it would be a good way to get more permits in the hands of more people.

Just some raw stats from the event: The shooter fired 6 shots. 5 hit the victim in the head and one in the torso. There were 2 rounds left in the gun and apparently it held 8. Hit rate was 100%. The NYPD cops fired 16 rounds. 9 hit the intended target. 3 were recovered from the body, 4 passed through and 2 were unexplained. 3 passers by received direct gunshot wounds and 6 others suffered fragmentation wounds. Hit rate 56.25% I'm not passing judgement on the cops because God knows what I would be able to hit in a high stress situation but I just wanted to put the data out there.

That would be North of Kingston, for the record.

I'm about 10 minutes from Kingston and about 5 from frontier and coal creek. If you head out of town towards Oliver Springs on Sugar Grove Valley I'm out that direction. I like the area because my private range is close and I get the benefits of a pretty quite area and am still close to OR and Knoxville.

Me: "What's the first rule of gun safety?" Wife: "Don't talk about gun safety?" Me: *face palm* Gotta love her though, I came home today and she had surprised me with a new Glock 17.
