  1. The first option should be center mass. Its the best and largest target. If the threat fails to stop, your next target is the pelvic region. Splitting the pelvic girdle will take away the threat's mobility and there are several large arteries in that area. If the threat still doesn't stop, your last option is the head. And when we're talking about the head we're really talking about an upside down triangle that goes from the eyes to the nose. That's it. The forehead is very hard and has been know to deflect bullets because of the slope. From the cheekbones down is also a poor choice because there are no vital targets in that area. So to sum up: 4 to 6 center mass, 4 to 6 pelvis and if you don't get compliance after that, you have to make a precise shot to the eyes/nose area. This all was from the class I took from Tiger McKee.
  2. My wife is slated to take the course in a couple weeks and we just read a Facebook post from Frontier that the State has switched from the B-27 to the B-29 target. The yardage will be a maximum of 21 feet but the target is roughly 66% smaller. Can anyone confirm this? I don't think she'll have any problem passing all the same but I've had her practice with the B-27 target and I know she'd freak out if she showed up to take the course and the target was smaller.
  3. Lots of missing detail here. Was she in the car or did she walk into the school? If it was in her pocket, how did the police find out? Just seems like an odd story. I always have my gun when I pick my kids up. 4. Just installed the Geissele Super Dynamic Enhanced trigger and man is it sweet. The second stage of the trigger feels amazing and is very crisp. I'll probably go with optics next. If I shot thousands of rounds a month I'd pick up a more reliable BCG but as it stands I can go a little longer without getting one for now.
  5. Tiger McKee teaches a pocket pistol class at Shootrite.
  6. Agreed. This is my 4th AR platform so I think I'm getting close to what I actually want. I'll probably hit perfection in another couple of guns
  7. Unfortunately the upper did not come with a bolt. Currently I have a stock Bushmaster BCG in the rifle.
  8. Here's what I want: 1. Colt bolt carrier group: http://www.coltsmfg.com/ShopOnline/tabid/62/ProdID/304/Default.aspx 2. Geissele Super Enhanced Trigger: http://geissele.com/superdynamicenhanced.aspx 3. Aimpoint Micro T-1 2MOA: http://www.aimpoint.com/us/products/all-products/product-singleview/product/Micro%20T-1/
  9. As promised:
  10. Well played sir, well played.
  11. So I just received my new BCM upper for my AR. I'll post pics when I get home so you all can see its beauty. Anyway, my goal for this rifle was for it to be a fighting gun. Fixed stock, simple optics, a light and that's about it. Currently it's about as bare as it gets with a set of sights and nothing more. Here's the deal; I only want to add a new bolt carrier group, trigger and optics. I can only buy, right now, either a trigger or a BCG. I'll have to save a little more to get the aimpoint that I want later. So what would you buy first? Keep in mind that I want this to be a practical fighting rifle and those are the only aftermarket parts I'll be adding. Please give me the order, parts and brands that you would get. Should be an interesting conversation. Also, let's not slip into the "only buy brand X and kill everything else with fire!" arguments.
  12. So just for shiggles, my cast bullets are .309 the bullet I shoved in the barrel was .308 and the ammo my gun likes is .307 as checked my calipers. So according to Caster's post, wouldn't the current size of the bullets be good without sizing?
  13. Just a shade Northwest of Oak Ridge.
  14. At this point the only piece of reloading equipment I have is this: At this point I'm not sure I even want to make the initial investment for the rest of the equipment. It is a gas check bullet.
  15. So that's what I ended up with. The point was cupped after I drove it out from the muzzle end.
  16. Well, I got the damned thing out. Had to buy a 30$ cleaning rod that resembles a thin cattle prod but it did the job. So, like an idiot, I tried again and the same thing happened. Casting bullets is cool and all but I don't know if I'll ever try that s**t again. The bullet definitely engaged the rifling and once my calipers come in I'll take a measurement. I brushed the barrel out well and it looks good so I'm not worried about any damage that I might have done. I'm 99.9% sure I got all of the zinc out. This was my first time casting so I was so paranoid about zinc that I used a pair of side cutters on every single weight. So now the question is, can I still use those bullets? I can guarantee I'll never shove one down the barrel of my gun as is. Can I use the one I crammed in and pushed back out for my measurement? It has engraved marks down the entire length of the bullet. If I can't push them through are they safe to use even after they've been sized? On that note, how would I know what to size them to? Sorry for all the questions but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. I didn't expect this whole process to be as complicated as I'm making it.
  17. OMG! I'm effing effed! So I went to check the bullet to see how it fit in the barrel. I lubed it and started pushing through. I felt it go about a quarter inch and get tight, really tight. It didn't seem right so I tried pushing from the front of the barrel and that s**t ain't movin'. I can't get the thing to budge! Arrrg! Now what? Please tell me I can fix this without a gunsmith...
  18. OK. I'll check it out when I get home. Just curious, why not melt the bullets down? Did you want them? I guess I should mention that I plan on shooting these out of a Remington 700 SPS tactical in .308. Don't know if that matters.
  19. When I put a bullet through the barrel, what am I checking for? Should there be resistance when it travels down the barrel? If so, how much? If there is none to little resistance, will the bullet be too small?
  20. Ugh, I'm gonna throw up if I have to cast all of those again...
  21. I ordered a caliper and once I get that I'll be able to get a more accurate measurement. I hope the size is good because I think that was the only one listed for a .308 from lee.
  22. I don't really think it would happen. Just curious about the logistics.
  23. I have one of "those" friends. You know, the Alex Jones worshipper that is convinced martial law is coming this October. He was also convinced it was coming last October and this past April as well. I don't think it would be attempted any time soon but if it was how would it happen? For those of you in law enforcement, would you follow an order to go door to door confiscating weapons? If you knew it was coming, how would you prepare for it? I've thought about it a little and was curious what others thought. If they did it I think it would be like the UK. Turn your guns in and after the grace period it's a felony. IDK, something else to think about.
  24. I thought I would dip my toe in the waters of casting and reloading one step at a time. I got some lead and casting equipment and began casting for my .308. I began one day and when I was done I had about 500 bullets. I don't have any reloading equipment and I'm a little confused on the sizing thing but here's the question; my budget is around 300$. What do I need to go from bullets and dirty casings to finished cartridges?
