  1. Sitting through a 12 hour class and shooting a paper target at 15 yards. Open book test at the end. I think the cost was around $400 when it was all said and done.
  2. That's a good question. I've always informally taught people how to shoot and I thought that having a NRA certification would lend some credibility when talking to people about taking a class. It's made a difference. I've spoken to a few ladies that I work with when I overheard them talking about needing to learn how to shoot their husband's guns. When I mentioned that I was a "NRA Certified Instructor" they seemed much more open about asking questions and more interested in learning. I haven't taught any official NRA classes but, like I said, I do a lot of informal teaching.
  3. I'm unclear if I have to be teaching a class every so often or if I can just pay every 2 years to keep it. I got the certification more out of curiosity instead of wanting to become a professional instructor.
  4. Thanks for the compliment! But alas, my score wasn't high enough to qualify. There's really no room for error with your shots even though all of my times were fast enough. It was good to meet everyone and I hope to do something similar soon. I wouldn't be opposed to hosting a session at my range. It's very similar, minus the livestock.
  5. I can also bring a canopy.
  6. I don't mind rain either. Now lightning...
  7.   Do you think it was from business or from the complaints?
  8.   2 miles with no homes is difficult to find in East Tennessee. Trust me, I'm still looking.
  9.   Do you know what the outcome of these complaints were?
  10. Didn't know about that one. Where is it? Never mind, I found it. We're looking at locations much further south than that.
  11. I'm in the very early stages of looking at opening a range for public use. It would have 2 - 100 yard rifle bays and 6 - 25 yard pistol bays. We'd also have a building for classes and other amenities. We have about 12 houses within 1000 yards with the closest house being within 300 yards. The property is surrounded by thick timber and brush. There are no zoning rules in the county and there are no sound ordinances. Like I said, we're in the very early stages and we're just want to try and cover all the bases before we secure funding. Have any of you tried to build something like this or seen someone else attempt the same thing? Besides noise complaints and possible civil suits from noise, what else would we have to worry about? TN law says after a year of operation, I'm protected against new ordinances, complaints and civil suits. All of the research on sound says that the db level at the closest house would be in the 40-60 level, barely above a whisper but there'd be a lot of instances. We plan on reaching out to the community, offering free memberships, other amenities and to measure the level of opposition. This is what we have in mind:
  12. How do we reserve a spot for this class?
  13. Well, that's what happens when you treat everyone in your life like a piece of sh*t. No one will come to your defense when you're in trouble. Will Hayden sowed a breeze, now he's about to reap a whirlwind.
  14. I'm taking mine here:   Austin's Tennessee Firearms School 154A Talmeda Rd, Oak Ridge, TN 37830
  15. I'm going to get my NRA pistol instructor certification this weekend in Oak Ridge I and was just wondering if it actually holds any weight. I have 0% interest in starting any sort of school or hosting any classes. I have, like many of you, helped out some new shooters with getting started or teaching some folks the basics of handgun manipulations. I wanted to get the certification to add some legitimacy to myself and was wondering if this actually means something to people. To experienced shooters like us, I wouldn't think it would be as big a deal but to the new shooter it might. Thoughts?
  16. Video above at 1:51! That was amazing!!! Also, struggling to get your mag from under your belly, very tactical.
  17. Go through the pictures. In almost every one the "instructor" has his finger on the trigger.
  18. Thank you! I was trying to figure out where this came from. That at least answers that question.
  19. Here's a better photo of the "grip":
  20. Yeah. Like I said this is the second time I've seen this technique on YouTube. I really hope it's not a horrible trend.
  21. Look at his grip though. I've never seen a grip like that before and quite frankly, it looks stupid.
  22. I've seen this technique a couple of times now. Seems like an incredibly inefficient waste of motion.   http://youtu.be/TMIfRNp2CM0?t=39s
  23. Or it was these assholes: This doesn't help us.
  24. No, it's not. But 90% of your training should be dry.
