I don't know how many kitchen table action jobs I have done on Rugers and S&Ws. I can replace innards to DWs too. I don't have a revolver or want one except for a DW .22lr, but I am not paying Scandium S&W prices for an old DW. I am serious though when a revolver guy disassembles one I would like to see the pics just to see the design differences from the big name revolver companies.

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/revolver My 15-33 shot Glock 19 weighs a just few grams more than this SIX shot revolver. When one of you revolver guys gets the stones to disassemble one of the Kimbers please post some pics of the innards. I still say the DW Model 15 is the .357 to beat.

Who Can Stipple a Glock?

Wayne can make a very nice practical holster as well. -
A gunsmith friend of mine said this is pretty easy. I would call this guy: http://pinnaclehighperformance.com/revolver.asp

knoxville 'smiths for S&W repair
graycrait replied to joel0711's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
From the S&W forums concerning a 29-2: The older guns get threaded in (thru) and the new ones are pressed it. They get refinished on the outside. Look at the aluminum guns, you can see the pins from the outside... Anyway, this is not a job for the average Joe, have S&W fix it. I took everyone's advice and had S&W replace the stud-just got it back and they did a great job. It took only a couple of weeks from here to there and back. -
S&W used to make a nice suppressor friendly .22LR. THis is a 422 I used to own. I used to have at least 8 of these in various barrel lengths.
-
I gave this one away to a young guy going into the Army (he was 21 from TN), It could sling lead with a suppressor fairly well.

This was as fun gun, Sig 220 Target Elite SAO .22LR that I got from the original owner. I traded it for something because it just wasn't as accurate for me as any of my Rugers or certainly not my Nelson conversion for 1911.
-
gunrunner32, your dad takes all your cool guns:) If you want the absolute most fun and maybe the most accurate threaded .22 pistol then get a nicely tuned 1911 frame and a conversion kit like this: http://www.nelsoncustomguns.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p= Here is mine:

Sounds like Remington has given up on the R51. Oh well, I thought the R51 would make a nice stablemate with a Whitney Wolverine:)

Who defines patriot duty? I could define it and likely have a lot of support saying a person failed in their patriotic duty by if they didn't at least try to be in the US military. If that is too rigid then who gets to define the "cut line" in determining what defines "patriotic duty?" Are these the only people who have met their patriotic duty? http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/what-percentage-of-americans-have-served-in-the-military/

the author of that piece has more time on their hands than I do and I have a lot right now.

If Remington can fix and produce the R51 in a reliable form I want one of those. I actually like the idea of the full length grip safety and liked the feel of the gun when I first felt one. I'm not sure if Remington can make it durable and reliable though. I'm afraid they have lost their way and can't get find their way back.

Anyone heard any late breaking news about the R51? After reading Tercel89's review of the latest greatest American pistol I remembered the R51. Didn't they promise many buyers of that 1st Gen R51 that if those buyers turned theirs' in that they would replace them later with a working version. What has become of that?
-
After reading Tercel89s review of the latest greatest handgun I was reminded of the R51 catastrophe and their promise to replace 1st Gen guns that were turned in with something that worked. Anyone seen the new and improved R51 or heard anything recent on the status?

Good review. You answered any questions I might have had. I'll go back to sleep until the next great thing.

I'll bite. I have been to both armorers schools - Glock and M&P. I have owned many of each including modded range toys. I couldn't count or justify how much $$ I have spent on aftermarket for each. I used to to earn a paycheck carrying one. Tell me to go to the grocery store: I carry a Keltec .32. Tell me to reach in the house for defensive gun I reach first for Keltec .32 - on me, 12 gauge pump shotgun and then Glock 9mm. Tell me to drive to Memphis I carry a G19 and Keltec 32. Tell me to go to the range and have fun: I carry a Springfield Loaded 1911 with Nelson Custom conversion and several 10/22s. If Glock did not exist I would carry M&P in place of Glock even though I have owned quite a few Sigs, FNs, Berettas and others. If someone told me that I had to make 25 yrd head shots reliably under difficult conditions with a handgun I would want a Sig SAO in .45 or maybe 9mm, having owned both. Kill a raccoon or opossum or other 45lb or less varmint out back: 1947 single shot Savage 3d with subsonic .22 mated to red lens flashlight. Even though I like revolvers note I never mentioned revolvers till this point. oh snap! Did I mention Kimber? Hell no! Here is my order of merit within my budget for .45 1911s: Rock Island/Armscor, Springfield - Full stop, unless you are a range only competitor or just like spending money for diminishing returns in play guns.

Having carried various handguns for a wage in some pretty odd places, I still carry my Keltec 32 98% of the time here in the wild west of Clarksville, TN . The rest of you must hang out in some pretty bad geography at bad times of day without hyper vigilance tendencies. You guys make me think that it must be like where you live, "Oh sh..., all of a sudden there is a platoon of bad guys surrounding me who want to torture and kill me who are armed with AKs, I need a bazooka..... or a .45ACP, the raygun of handguns:)!

I picked up shooter grade Savage 3D single shot .22LR circa 1947-ish.

Is this "better" than the X-Five Tactical?
-
They have a lock time that supposedly is a bit quicker than S&W or Ruger, which made it a favorite of silhouette shooters. I've had several apart and replaced internals. I always thought the guts were just a tad "hinky" compared to Ruger and S&W, but they always worked. EWK Arms makes some spare parts for them and I suppose CZ has some parts if someone needed them. If I were to again buy a revolver the DW would be the only one. I would love to stumble across a .22LR DW, but am not looking for one. Frankly because I classify them as a target or range gun, or maybe a hunting revolver I would opt for the longer barrels. I would also second the recommendation to get one of the Monson, MA versions. Take a look at some pretty wild version here: http://www.danwessonforum.com/
