I've got 4 or 5 stock triggers from past VQ replacement projects I am going to mod myself to see if I can do a pretty good one myself. I picked up a PC 10/22 sear/hammer check block to ensure my engagements are good to go. Thanks for the notion on Kidd. I think Kidd is the only one that comes as an adjustable. I put the Tech Fronts along with another aperture rear on my "junkyard" 10/22. I'm probably going use some type of AR rear aperture sight on the picatinny railed PWS Toggle receiver. The Nodak Spud NDS-44 front sight works on a standard taper "sightless" 10/22 barrel. I tested it on my TI 1:9 twist threaded barrel. Just waiting for the backordered 29" barrel and my receiver. I may get a Kidd trigger group seeing as I have this much spent on the project, may as well go the whole Monty. I have 4 "homebuilt" trigger groups, one of which is pretty nice, two are OK and one needs work, so I have some to play with when the PWS receiver arrives.

Obviously the listing would change if just revolvers or just pistols were mentioned. Within pistols the list would change again considering .22s, service pistols to daily carry or pocket. I lumped my 1911 brands I have had together as they all worked, some with a little more tinkering than others. 1. Glock/Sig 2. Ruger 3. S&W 4. Dan Wesson 5. Beretta 6. CZ 7. FN/HK 8. Keltec 9. AMT 10. Colt 11. Rock Island 12. Springfield 13. Norinco 14. Diamondback 15. Rossi 16. Walther 17. NAA 18. Bersa 19. Star 20. H&R 21. Zastava 22. Phoenix 22. Taurus 23. Jennings 24. Bryco 25. Davis

Most of those LEO and security company guns sometimes look rough on the outside but shoot just fine. Don't ask me how many K Frame S&W's I have had, it would be embarrassing. I have only one now that is a Mdl 10, but is chromed. Anyway, I suspect if the gun is 300.00 or less and feels good in your hand as you slowly cock it on each cylinder and when the hammer is all the way back as if you are DA shooting and cylinder doesn't move much the gun is likely OK. The thing to look out for is excessive wear to the forcing cone. That is the part of the barrel that sticks through the frame and is close to the cylinder. IF the edges are nice and clean and pretty sharp the gun has seen little use of hot magnums or aftermarket owner file work. Also look at the top strap just above the forcing cone on the frame. There is likely to be a little flame cuting, but if it is like halfway through the top strap then someone has been shooting hot handloads. Again, a little cutting is OK, and that will likely be the case. Generally under normal use there will be some flame cutting but it tends to stop and doesn't get any worse in one lifetime. Those stainless S&W .357s will last several lifetimes. If it is in your budget, buy it, shoot it. And if you want to slick it up a bit I can give you a couple of elementary tips. Craig

That is quite a modification. The S&W 41 purists are sure to rant against such blasphemy. I like it and hope it shoots well for you. Craig

I'm doing it again, spending too much money on a 10/22. I am looking to find a brand from someone who has purchased a complete aftermarket 10/22 adjustable trigger group and was happy with it. I would like it to be user adjustable if possible from approx 1.5lb - 3 or 4lbs. I ordered a 29" Urban Rifle Supply standard taper barrel. I'm initially going to put it in a Archangel Target stock. I also ordered a PWS T3 Toggle Trigger receiver/action (thanks for the suggestion Dol S-fly). Because the barrel doesn't have a front sight I ordered a Nodak Spud NDS-44 that has a narrower front sight post in a SKS style that slips over a standard taper barrel. Unfortunately I had already ordered a Tech Sight rear, which came with a front, prior to the PWS T3 order. The T3 comes with an integral Picatinny rail so the Tech can't be used - on this 10/22. I'll used the Tech set-up to my Stealth Sporter 10/22. I need two things yet: 1) A Picatinny mountable rear sight that has windage and elevation adjustments and can have the apertures changed out to a variety of sizes. 2) An adjustable 10/22 trigger group. Thanks, Craig

I care deeply what others think of me:

LGS asked me if I could install a Galloway Precision modded hammer and trigger bar in a young lady's LC9. It is pretty simple, however, besides the takedown pin only remove the two large pins that hold the chassis in the frame, as well as the hammer spring. If you take the little pin out that holds that funny shaped coiled spring with the crooked leg...... well, that is a little fiddly to get back in. You don't need to take that out to put in the Galloway hammer and trigger bar. While disassembling I got a little hammer and punch happy without paying attention. If you get the modded Galloway hammer and trigger bar and you think it is a bit daunting to install send me a message. The videos on the Galloway website work pretty good in explaining things. They just don't explain that crooked legged coil spring thing too well:) Craig in Clarksville

Anyone have a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series?
graycrait replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Handguns
Saw one of these NIB on the shelf today at my LGS. It doesn't look much different than the M&P 9L I had that I had changed sights and iinstalled an Apex kit in. Craig in Clarksville -

I was told by one of my Glock toting friends "don't get the Glock 9mm Sub2K." I never listen. He had one once also. I got one and had it about a month. Put a little aftermarket on it and took it to the range a couple of times. You couldn't pry that thing out of a 10-12 yr old's hands. It is a neat package made out of materials and in such a manner it begs the question of durability. I was certainly afraid to drop it. The pivot pin point Does Not elicit this comment, "That looks sturdy." The front sight is down right "hinky." There used to be a company that made an aftermarket front sight out of metal, but I am pretty sure they discontinued that piece or the company disappeared, can't remember which. I say get one and play with it. You certainly won't have any trouble reselling it.

I have a Pre Mark I Ruger that works fine and it is dated around 1958. I also have a 22/45 and HiPower's old AMT Lightning (Ruger MKII clone). I have had both the P22 and Mosquito. I have handled a couple of the new Ruger SR22s and just about every sub 700.00 .22 pistol or revolver made in the last 20 years. The Buckmark is OK, but Ruger MK series has such an aftermarket it is hard to compete with the Ruger. The only reasonably priced standard sized semi auto .22 pistols that I like to shoot are the Rugers and older S&W 422s. I see similarities between the P22, ISSC M22 and the S&W M&P 22. All three of these pistols work, but I wouldn't rate them in the same tier as the Ruger MK or the Buckmark in terms of durability, reliability or accuracy. However, those three similar pistols rank way up there in fun.

Perfect Glock with no mods to the plastic (1st or 2nd Gen only - those finger grooves gotta go in 3/4 Gens) is IMHO: 1) Fulcrum trigger http://www.glockworx.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=156111&CAT=3688 or 1a) less expensive Phantom trigger: http://www.rockyourglock.com/parts/RYGTriggers.htm 2) 3.5lb connector 3) 6lb trigger spring (stock is 5lb) 4) A-Grip grip tape 5) (OK, I can't go without one small grip mod - where the trigger guard and grip meet one should radius the edge of the trigger guard as this makes for easier all afternoon shooting without getting a "Glock Knuckle" on the main knuckle joint of the "Pentagon Salute" finger.)
-
Just to be the "devil's" advocate I will say any Glock 9mm, but if I have to go out with a Glock it is a 19 or 26. Every night I have G17 close to hand. Mod your glock to suit you.

So today I ordered myself a manly man's gun

I checked with my local FFL who checked with his distributors, none available - yet! -
http://www.gallowayprecision.com/lc9performanceparts.html After getting to handle a M&P Shield a good bit, but without shooting it, I liked it. And as a cert M&P armorer I'm sure it is a decently made pistol. But before you LC9 owners trade or sell your long triggered LC9s for a Shield take a look at Galloway's trigger upgrades. I think I put this on the Forum before. I had a LC9 for about a month. I couldn't stand the trigger. Just a few weeks ago a fellow shows me his LC9 with the Galloway hammer upgrade. I couldn't believe it; nice break, short travel. This was a quantum leap in improvement, not just degrees. I suspect if Apex doesn't already have some Shield action upgrades I suspect they soon will: https://apextactical.com/store/product-list.php?pg1-cid11.html However, if I still had an LC9 I would surely get in line for the Galloway upgrade.

I've had the same KT32 Hardchrome for some years without a failure. I've done the Golden Loki fluff and buff on a number of KTs for friends: http://goldenloki.com/gunsmith/keltec/fullrp.htm I'm a fan of Keltec R&D but own only the KT32 and that will like be the only one I own. I have owned others. After doing some online research on the company it seems that KT runs various models and then changes the assembly line to run others. When they have a run they evenly distribute their production to their various dealers, up to 30 I read. If this is true and who knows about what you read online, then production issues could pop up every time they reset a line for a particular model run. I worked on the line in a couple of factories that made complex products and this doesn't seem to be an effective way to maintain QC. I was a buildup man for the R&D lab in one factory. Maybe more modern machining provides a greater degree of flexibility than what I experienced in my younger days. It appears than rather expand and incur debt and lose control George Kelgren of Keltec (and formerly of Grendel) has elected to stay small (reputed to be the 2d or 3rd largest firearm manufacturer in the US) with some 30 employees. I like their ideas and like the fact that my little sub 7oz (unloaded) .32acp always works with ball ammo. I carry it a lot. If Ruger made a .32 LCP like their .380 I would probably get the Ruger. With a modified P11 trigger shoe on my P32 it has found itself a useful self-defense niche with me. I've "had" two PF9s. They were 100% in function but I hated shooting them. I find the Diamondback DB9 a better-for-me pocket 9mm. Craig

I wonder how much accuracy could be wrung out of that .22 "pistol"? I'm thinking with the right chamber, crown and bolt work that thing could be made to shoot very well. Looks like a Colibra gun too! Craig -
I streamlined the optic with a Millet 3MOA, but it still weighs 64oz.

I went thru a .22 mag "thing" for awhile. Then it was pointed out to me that however fun .22 mag is and even effective, that with my .22LRs and the availability of a wide variety of .22LR ammo that maybe 5.56/.223 out of an AR would meet my need for speed and distance. It did and has, making me dump my .22mags. I tried longuns in 9mm and .357 and while still liking the idea pistol caliber carbines the AR with its speedier bullet makes more sense to me from several perspectives, although one of these days I may get a 9mm AR that uses Glock 9mm mags. Now that I don't hunt any longer I shoot for fun and self-defense and it has been fun finding .22LR rifles that can shoot available ammo from 20 grain 500fps to 30 grain at 1750fps, as well as 60 grain SSS.

I know we don't live in New Zealand or GB, thank goodness, but these US suppressor prices & stamp are really something...sigh.... I would like a lightweight (if possible) durable, cleanable, suppressor to use on .22lr only semiauto pistols and both semi and manual action .22LR rifles. No other calibers. The only one I have used are friends' YHM Mites and I understand there are much better ones out there. I was thinking Element2 or WarlockII. Can someone tell me where these are in stock? I have some lightweight threaded .22 pistols and don't want a boat anchor on the end of the barrel. I am experimenting with boat anchor handguns in other calibers. Thanks, Craig

As the President and sole member of the ISSF (Impractical Shooting Sports Foundation) I was out at a friend's house where he has a gong set up at 180 yards. I shot it a couple of times with my Dan Wesson .357 2.5" heavy shroud setup at 140 yards. Then I got to day dreaming. I called a friend in the gun parts making business and asked about a 6" heavy shround for my stock DW 6" barrel. Eric Kovachic, at EWK Arms, told me he had something sitting on the shelf that there didn't seem to be a lot of interest in and then described it. I got all tingly when he told me about the shroud with rail with iron sight option. I suspect now I need to find another Dan Wesson .357. I also think it would be sort of cool to do something similar with a DW .22 revolver. More on par with the weight of 5.5 MKII/II or 7" S&W 41 with barrel weights. Castor, it does pain me at times as to why others can't see some things with the same "clarity" that I do. Craig in Clarksville

64oz 6" Dan Wesson .357. I am waiting for a red dot for this but can take the rail off and use black or fiber optic front sight in conjunction with the target rear. I could put a pistol scope on it also. Heavy shroud made by EWK Arms.

I've carried pocket guns for quite a few years now. Everything from J-frames, Kahrs, NAA, you name it. My go to pocket carry guns in De Santis pocket holsters a Keltec .32 with ball ammo and Diamondback DB9 with SV Critical Defense. I've gone back and forth with the DB9, almost getting rid of it a couple of times, but it is a potent little thing at 11.7oz and so thin. As long as I can shoot it fast one handed weak hand I'll keep it. Right now I am kind of ambivelent concerning my LCR with Novak red fiber optic front sight and my S&W 640. You can see the size difference for yourself below but the weights loaded make a huge difference for pocket carry. DPB9 9mm (6+1): 15.7oz; KT32 .32acp (6+1) 10.4oz; LCR .38SP (5 rds): 15.8; S&W 640 .357 (5rds) 25.3oz. Hardly a pocket pistol but just for comparison a Glock 26 with 11rds of 9mm weighs 26.5oz.

Maybe I am late on this but didn't find it on a search of TGO. Just saw this on RFC: http://www.1022rifle.com/information
