They are fine guns with a vague and long trigger. When you get the Galloway Precision trigger system upgrade you will wonder two things: 1) Why didn't Ruger do this in the first place? 2) Why would anyone else come up with a small single stack 9mm when the LC9 with a Galloway trigger system is here? Having said that I think the S&W Shield is cool and Apex is supposed to be coming out with a action upgrade for the Shield also.

I've not given up on the 29" barrel. I figure it needs torqueing and tuning with pressure points to get the most out of it. Worst case scenario is to cut it down, but I am a long way off from doing that. I can run 60 grainers out of a variety of guns well as far as cycling, including small .22 pistols. Accuracy is another thing. They run great out of my 1:11.25" twist barrel. They run ok out of my Remington 552 and 572. At least good enough to kill stuff inside of 50 yards, but not good enough to hit the eyeball of a squirrel. Those 60 grainers really run nice out of a Taurus PLY 22 pocket .22 if I wanted to use them for self defense. I can't wait till FJ Federsson makes his 1:12 twist 10/22 barrels for 60 grain SSS.

Installed my Kidd trigger kit today into a plastic trigger housing. Works as advertised, 1.75 crisp lbs.

scope question. parallax and focus
graycrait replied to vujade's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I would have grabbed that SS for a 100 bucks too if I had seen it priced for that. It is what I would have put on one of my experimental .22s if I had not gotten the free Swift 6-18x44 Mildot. My advice is to set it up with a laser boresighter, do what Dolomite said about parallax and reticle focus, then shoot it. Then have at least one other person who knows a little about scopes take a few shots, allowing the freedom to adjust the scope to their preferences. If two of you confirm it on the range that something is amiss, call SS and see if they will fix it. If you are in or near Clarksville, get a hold of me by pm and I know a couple of guys who can take a look at it... -

I ordered an 89.00 Kidd trigger kit just the day before yesterday from the Kidd website (no shipping charge). Remember those Kidd kits are specifically designed to work well in the newer stock Ruger 10/22 polymer trigger housing, not the older metal ones. The new polymer trigger housings have tighter specs supposedly. These two scopes work nicely and look good on most traditional rimfire rifles: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/435051/leupold-vx-1-rimfire-rifle-scope-2-7x-28mm-fine-duplex-reticle-matte http://www.midwayusa.com/product/734016/weaver-classic-rimfire-rifle-scope-25-7x-28mm-dual-x-reticle-matte I really like this little scope also: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/353448/nikon-p-22-rimfire-rifle-scope-2-7x-32mm-1-2-moa-adjustments-nikoplex-reticle-with-rapid-action-turrets-matte The Nikon doesn't look as sleek as the other two but I love the Nikon turrets (so far). Generally you can find Ruger stock 10/22 reeivers without the bolt for about 110.00 on classifieds of many forums. Then you have S&H, transfer fees, etc unless you can do a FTF. Here is a list of aftermarket 10/22 receiver makers. Most will require shipment to an FFL. I suspect there are more: http://www.ruger1022receiver.com/ http://www.moaguns.com/rec10_22.html http://www.nodakspud.com/NDS-22.htm http://www.tacticalinc.com/ch22%E2%84%A2-billet-machinedbr-rear-charging-handlebrreplacement-1022reg-receiver-p-1205.html http://www.tacticalsol.com/tshome/x-ring-custom-22lr-receiver http://www.zimmermanarms.com/zimmerman-arms-receivers.html http://primaryweapons.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=266&idcategory=26

Geno, Nice get on that 15-2. I'm hoping to stumble on another one to go with the one I have now. This one is not your granny's 15-2:

twpayne75 But that night I ordered a Fedderson 18" .92 heavy barrel and Boyd's Blaster stock for a 10/22. I am looking at triggers now. When I get all these parts in I may actually buy a 10/22. Watch the 10/22 "thing" it can be like "crack." I'll be interested in seeing what receiver you buy.

Interesting thing to do is hold a nice nickel revolver alongside a chrome revolver (where do you find chrome revolvers:)? The nickel gives off a yellowish cast while the chrome gives off a bluish cast. Once you see this side by side you will never forget it. I found this fact highly illuminating.

Interesting thing about that chrome job, whoever did it. It was 100% inside and out. However, chrome does collect thicker in cracks and crevices a bit. SO the single action notch was iffy due to the chrome so I stoned it off. Now this is a slick DAO chrome Mdl 10.

Went to Darryl's place today to test fire some .22s and handguns. 1) the Apex trigger kit, as well as the Power Custom trigger shim I put on Darryl's 442 worked nicely. I also polished a few areas on the trigger, hammer and rebound block. I polished the new rebound spring and the interior of the rebound block. Also put new springs in it including a firing pin spring. Darryl shot it and it proved 100% reliable. It pulls easier and feels better after I radiused the trigger shoe itself. I doubt if a 442 shoots much better. 2) Test fired two revolvers myself, my NTM 60-something year old 4" S&W M&P pre-model 10 .38 special. Shoots well, nice action (thanks to me and S&W) and was 100% reliable. Also made sure my chrome S&W Mdl 10 was working well. That chrome Mdl 10 is remarkable, easy shooting and slick action. 3) Both Darryl and myself shot my Diamondback DB9, the 11.5oz 9mm. Darryl didn't think the recoil was bad at all and I shot it one-handed left-handed as fast as I could keeping all the rounds in acceptable area. The DB was 100% with Hornady 115 grain Critical Defense and Independance 115 grain practice ammo. I'm going to set aside the Keltec 32 for a while and use the DB9 for pocket carry.

10/22s at 25 yards with a slight crosswind at 94 degrees and humid as... well you know. Prone position using my Cross Tac walnut hull bags lying on my rug. 1) 16.5" 1:11.25" Optimal Twist by Capitalist Arms in a stock 10/22 reciever with metal trigger group with VQ hammer in a Archangel Target stock. Scope is Nikon P22 with Nikoplex reticle. This was the first time out for this combo, having cannibalized two 10/22s for the parts. I loaded up some mags with 60 grain Aguilas, took about 5 shots to put the holes where the crosshairs were and either Darryl or I could shoot through the same ragged hole or maybe the same hole if we didn't move the rifle. This is easiest to get to work well 10/22 I have had. The idea of accurately hammering 60grain subsonics makes me feel good. How many rounds of 60 grain .22LR can you carry in the Zombie wars or when Urban Anarchy rules the land? I didn't shoot any 30-40 grain loads in this set-up this time. I was so tickled how the 60 grainers were working in that rig that I didn't want to take the possibility of spoiling that feeling. 2) I then took the 29" standard tapered barrel by Urban Rifle Supply in a PWS T3 toggle receiver and used some of every ammo I had. This barrel and receiver has a stock trigger group massaged by me. It also sits in an Archangel Target stock using a Swift 6-18x44mm Mildot AO scope. With Blazer and Centurian ammo it was lousy. 2nd shot of 60 grain Aguilas went in sideways at 25 yards. I tried to repeat the initial success I had with Lapua Speed Ace but kept getting flyers. I used CCI Green Tag, Eley Rifle Match, Lapua mentioned, and several other high octane types of ammo. I never could get comfortable with the scope/rifle combo and kept getting flyers. I would get a couple of good rounds, then one would open the group up. I don't want to give up on this rig because it balances so nicely, but I was eyeballing that 1:11.25 twist barrel, thinking how it would work with the PWS manual receiver. Darryl advised to leave the 1:11.25 where it was cause it works well. Seeing as my 29" barrel is free floated its entire length I may use one or two of the adjustable tension pressure pads to see if I can get this thing to settle down and eat well one type of non-high dollar ammo like the Aguila Rifle Match. I have some Federal Auto Match on order to see how that fairs. Kidd has their trigger kits on sale so I ordered one. These are the ones that go in a plastic housing and take the trigger to 1.75lbs. I had planned on putting that on my long barrelled 10/22 but now I may put it on the 60 grain Aguila shooter along with a specially tuned bolt a friend is sending me. With the right barrel I can't see why Aguila 60 grainers can't be very very accurate unless they have inconsistent loadings.I think I have the right barrel. Next time I take the two Archangel stocked 10/22s out I am going to bring my Stealth Sporter 10/22 with the rechamberd and crowned barrel to see how it shoots alongside or in front of either of my latest projects and maybe using cheap ammo. Then I have to see how the Rugers shoot against the Winchesters, Remingtons, Marlin and the Russian Toz. If that cheap TOZ outshoots the Rugers and the the others I may just have to have a cry.

sLiK, Yeah, the only reason I got the DB9 is because it was so Glock-like in a tiny package. That recoil ain't tiny though. Tercel89, if you sell your 92 and think you just can't live without an all metal gun you could talk me out of my Star BM single action. Pictured is a factory chrome Star BM that had some exterior issues that gunrunner32 fixed for me with a Cerakote job. Due to the interior chrome that gun is slick as a whistle. Reliable too. All the small parts still have their original chrome. You gotta love those faux pearl grips.

Caster, I like shooting, not collecting. Depending on condition the Colt will never lose its value. At a certain point neither will the Smith. I'm thinking however, that the Colt may have the old "Python-like" lockwork which can be tuned to be like glass. On the other hand a S&W Mdl 10 can be tuned to "fly" like a Miculek gun. I couldn't help myself and picked up a beater S&W M&P 5-screw 4" barrel the other day. It points like my index finger. It makes a good companion to my 4" heavy barrel chrome S&W Mdl 10. I did a trigger job on the M&P and it is sli......ck! Not as slick as my 100% chromed Mdl 10. 3 S&Ws and 1 DW, non are collectors but they are shooters!!

You make it sound like I am some sort of Glockophile. I have other centerfirel pistols besides Glocks, 4 to be exact:
-
I've been where you are seemingly at. CZ 452s are nice, I have had 2 or 3 of them over the years. If you get one make sure you get a Yo Dave trigger kit. However, with a little thought you can build your own .22 for specific purposes.

I have a friend who is an FBI Agent on one of the "many' regional SWAT teams. He is not a lawyer or accountant. He is former US Army and big city LEO. He is the best handgun shooter I have ever seen in person. I had to carry a handgun for work for nearly 3 decades. He has a couple of duty SA Pros with rails and one for himself as a non-duty gun. He told me a few weeks ago that even though he is faster and more accurate with the SA 1911s than he was with his beloved G19 I used to shoot alongside, he said that his work SAs are often "down" due to not being able to hold up to the amount of rounds he shoots for practice. Fortunately these hard used guns are government guns and he doesn't have to pay for rework and rebuilds. Which seems to say to me if this is going to be primarily a range or bar b que gun then it sounds like a good one. However, if this is going to be a using gun that your life may depend on then you might consider having two or more. I like Glock 9mms but I have 8 of them, just in case.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_injection_molding Apparently MIM was invented and refined in the USA. I hope you all scrolled to the end of this link to see the guy's picture of his 1911s - I think I counted 61 or so: http://www.1911addic...1911-addicts...

http://www.1911addic...1911-addicts... Now that is a very educational link, thanks Vamarine. I grew up about 85 miles from Conrad. TMF 18B: I didn't think I was being too subtle:) Just joking around, fishing for a bite;) Kimbers are fine. I have friends who own them. I forget about Fusion. I do know a fella who has over 44 1911s. I should start nudging him towards reviewing them. Vamarine, again thanks for the link and your info. There are so many makers of 1911s I just wanted to start sorting and categorizing them in my head. I run into a lot of guys who like to trumpet their disgust for any pistol but 1911s, with many of these same fellas not having a clue what they are talking about. I've only had a dozen or so 1911s and have just one right now, a pseudo 1911 - Springfield Loaded Target 9mm. I thought I got it for a decent price and wanted to fool around with the design again, one with easy recoil, using less expensive ammo.

Anyone have an RIA .22TCM or know anything about them?
graycrait replied to AlvinCYork's topic in Handguns
I need a .22TCM Glock barrel for one of my 8 9mm Glocks. I would be loving this if I could get a 6" or 6.5" .22TCM barrel for one of my G17Ls. Then there is the question of ammo availability. Then there is the question of why I can't get an AR upper in .22TCM. -
jcoosi, you must mean Remingtons and not that other 1911 outfit in Yonkers?

From time to time I have pursued this but haven't found one comprehensive source that discusses. Is there one comprehenise source that details the manufacturing of parts and assembly of 1911s? For instance: 1. Although Springfield frames and slides and some whole guns are made by Imbel which ones and how much is done in the US and what small parts are used? 2. Who does Metro Arms and Rock Island produce frames and slides for besides themselves? 3. Who makes a 1911 including the small parts entirely of US made parts? And who makes the parts? I realize that few can make all the parts of an entire 1911 and that some parts have to come to come from outside a branded organization. I am not foreign phobic (I own a fair pile of Glocks) but am just interested in having a more complete understanding of 1911 manufacture. I read that Rock Island (Philippines) has no MIM parts. Can that be true and if so does it really matter - MIM or no MIM? Thanks, Craig in Clarksville

Toz 79-01 overall length about 38, barrel is 21+" and weighs about 4.25lbs. I put a Williams receiver sight on the grooved receiver that works well with the SKS/AK-like front sight. Uses a AK or SKS front sight post adjusting tool. I've done a little shooting with it and I think it has way more potential than the price might have indicated. I traded for it.

I only have 4 10/22s. I have a quite a pile of spare parts. I traded 4 take-off barrels for a 1st class threading job on another. I have 3 semi-serious 10/22s and one that is sort of used for cannibalizition. I only have 6 other .22 rifles besides the 4 10/22s. The other 6 are pretty neat in their own right: a 1956 Win 62A, 1950 Win 63, 1956 Rem 572, 1971 Rem 552, Toz 78-01, and Marlin XT22. About the only .22 rifle I have any interest in these days besides the ones I have would be to run across a nice Mossberg 144 T-handle. But I can live without it. Comment about the Toz. This is the model that Winchester restocked and called the Wildcat. However, Winchester also did away with the adjustable trigger under the Wildcat moniker. The last I heard was that at one time CDNN sold Toz 78-01's for 129.00. That Toz is a nifty rifle with a very crisp trigger.
