I need a hammer spring for a Hamiton 27, anyone have a clue where to get one. I've looked on Auction Arms, Gunbroker, Numrich, Bob's Guns Royal, AR. I haven't called Jack First.

macgyver-isms and the gun hobby.

Charcoal briquets are about minute of squirrel head big and reactive. Can be sprayed with flourescent paint too. I don't feel guilty leaving them behind. Styrofoam cups are fun to shoot but a mess to clean up. -
A friend of mine had it done on a 1.00 wine glass down at one of those kiosks at the mall. Probably didn't cost him $5.00 total but he got big points from me. He gave my wife a similar glass but with a non gun maker symbol.

That should be on a frosted beer mug not some prissy wine glass. Out of my 23 years I get pension for serving in the US Army I lived in Germany for about 9 of those years and of that I worked with and for the German military for about 6 years. I know a thing or two about beer;) The guy who gave me that glass is one bad dude... but then how would you know....? One night in Sarajevo in '93 I was drinking beer with some fellas from the French Foreign Legion.... The Legionaires gave me what they had as a C-rat one time, had a little bottle of wine it... it has been all downhill since then.

Your table is not level. By gosh you are right Garufa, but then - neither am I!

I fixed one for a friend once, one of the Lorcin .380s that had a black finish. Then I said: Why don't I clean it up good for him? Sprayed it with gunscrubber - not a good idea. A lot of the black finish came off. I said, uh oh! Then I sprayed it some more and took all the finish off. Then I put that pot metal on the buffer. Shined up like a new quarter. I gave it back to this guy and his eyes lit up like he just won the lottery. He wanted a shiney gun. I wouldn't trust it to save my life. Best cut it in half with a chop saw and toss it in the nearest river like Metalhead said.

The things I like best about Glocks: 1) simple design 2) ability to change the grip to suit most shooters 3) lots of aftermarket. The Glocks pictured have various things done to the grips/frames from taking material off the backstrap, cutting finger grooves into the trigger guard, removing material from the top of the trigger guard and of course radiusing the area where the second knuckle hits the frame. One is a 17 cut down. Two have metal triggers. See any finger humps - they are all Gen 3. Glocks aren't play purties to show off at the bar b que. The're tools that can be altered from their stock state to really fit the user.

The PLY22 by Taurus is a reliable easy to shoot pistol but it is a bit thick in the grip, which makes it easy to shoot. When shooting the 60 grain SSS in the PLY22 I called the PLY22 the "Lil Thumper." The Taurus PT22 didn't make it, the frame split shooting one day. I'm trading an old S&W 4" M&P .38Spl revolver for the Beretta Bobcat .22LR my 87yr old shooting buddy talked me out of last year. He got my PLY22 also:)

Recommned you get the one that you have never had. If you have not had any of those guns may as well start with the 1911, then get a 9mm Glock. Then get a 92 and lastly the 21/30/36 .45 ACP Glocks. I have had over a dozen 1911s and have 0 now. I have had 2 x 21s, 2 x 36s and have shot the snot out of G30s. I have 0 .45ACP Glocks. I have had 3 92s, I have 0 now. I have no intention of getting any of the aforementioned pistols ever again. I have 10 Glock 9mms. I do have a friend who collects/accumulates guns and he has over 45 1911s and more on order. So to each his own niche.

If you have long fingers and/or larger than average hands the 92 is sort of fun if you can get it used. Why used, because you are eventually going to get rid of it or just leave it in the safe. However, if you put a competition hammer spring (about a 2 minute job) they can be fun to shoot. I have had at least 3 of my own besides the ones I had to carry for a check. R1 - snooooze, just another entry level 1911 that works. However, if you have not had a 1911 it would be a good one to start with. Every other year or so I get a used 1911 only to sell or trade it. I enjoy the 1911 trigger but not much else. If you have a source for free Gap ammo then go for the 37, but a box of range FMJ is twice what 9mm is from what I can see. G17 - there are guns I can shoot better out of the box, but none I trust more. I have several G17s. Put a good trigger on one and they can shoot pretty well.

I really tried to like the M&P in its stock form. However, once I did a little dremel work to the small backstrap up where the seam hit my shooting hand thumb joint I liked it quite a bit. What I didn't like was the appreciably more complicated action system the M&P has over the Glock and the fact the M&P has more parts. Again, no big deal, but I am a certified M&P & Glock armorer so I have more than a nodding acquaintance with two designs. I wish I could put the Glock innards into an M&P frame, then after a little grinding M&P/Glock would be close to perfection. OK, neither can have a 1911 trigger but a good trigger job and replacement of the stock Glock trigger with a Fulcrum trigger gets a pretty good trigger.

Look at what Tim Calhoun gunsmithing did to my M & P!
graycrait replied to RWF's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Tim, Do you have any pics of what you can or have done to a Glock. I have a spare 17L,17, 19 & 26 sitting here looking so "plain." Great M&Ps and of course the 1911s I have been looking at from the postings. Craig in Clarksville -
Two legged clothed deer-sized game is what the SKS is meant for. Why not try it on "nekkid" 4-legged "deer sized" game. Try some soft points on the range. Maybe the Hornaday's will tighten up your group for hunting purposes. If you need optics try: http://scoutscopes.com/sks-scope-mounts/sks-scope-mount-black-anodized-6795/

I think this is the best thing for the RTF2 17 frame:

I got this today in the mail today along with a 1/4 adapter with it. http://www.micro-tools.com/store/P-28506/Torquevarios-w-Window-Scale-1050-Lbs.aspx I reset the torque on all 10/22 V-blocks. The Brownells Torque driver I have is too big for 10/22 V blocks http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=25706/Product/MAGNA-TIP-reg-ADJUSTABLE-TORQUE-HANDLE but it works easily on everything else that doesn't have restrictive space requirements cause the Brownells Torque driver is BIG. Supposedly this one is the king: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=18668/Product/TORQUE-LIMITING-SCREWDRIVER but it costs too much although had I gotten it first I wouldn't now have two different sized torque drivers. This one may have been the handiest overall: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=18221/Product/1-TO-75-INCH-POUND-VARIABLE-TORQUE-WRENCH I think I could have done everything I needed with this one including getting a straight shot at the 10/22 V-Block bolts that are close to the barrel.

RTF2 came out in 2009 then went away in mid 2010 if my timeline is correct. The fish gills weren't out too long, being replaced by standard serrations on RTF2 frames. Gen 4 replaced RTF2. I read that RTF2 can still be available for military or LEO contract, not sure about that. Gen 4 seems a suitable replacement.

LOL. Spin drift and the Coriolis effect make smoke come out of my ears. I could tell a couple of other stories, but coming from "pogue city" ain't too impressive. There has to be some fellas on this forum who can say, "been there and done that." I know a couple of guys who routinely shoot 1000 yard matches, realizing shoot a grand ain't being a sniper, but having the ability to do so is part of the "game."

I think Caster has it down: The guy {or gal} behind the trigger. It could be a worn out Stevens Crack shot .22 loaded with shorts and be a sniper rifle in the hands of the right mind. I have had a checkered life which allowed/allows me to meet quite a variety of shooters. I have also gotten to meet some shooters as well as having seen their effects in various out of country places. I, as an 3rd party obsever, went on a counter sniper mission - very interesting. However, later I looked back and thought, maybe I was a decoy? One time some locals told me that children were being killed by a sniper in a country I was working back in '93. Later that day I mentioned the indigenous sniper to two "non-US" Special Forces types. A couple of days later the locals hailed me as some kind of ninja thinking I ended their children killer sniper problem. I didn't tell them I didn't do anything except mention their situation to a couple of non-uniformed bad assess I had met. I saw these same two "SF" fellas a few days later and before I could even say anything one gave me a tight lipped grin and a nod. I said to myself, "there are some bad ass people around here and I need to stay on their good side." Then there was a guy with a suppressed .22LR and thermal night sight.... I personally can't shoot long range worth a crap, having no natural skill, no training or experience, but I have met some fellas.... and every time they impress/impressed me. The fella that teaches 5th SFG snipers is a pretty interesting fella that I have the good fortune to meet. I have some software that a sniper lent me and I am still looking at like a chimp looks at a wrist watch. Wind, earth rotation, air density, temperature, barrel twist, bullet weight, velocity... no squirrel ever heard of this stuff in Iowa..

macgyver-isms and the gun hobby.
graycrait replied to vujade's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
A buddy of mine is a young cop. He has had some issues with questionable fellas doing drive "bys" at his house. He wanted to buy a shotgun for his house that his wife could also use if need be, but he isn't made of money. I sold him my own old gunrunner32 cerakoted pistol gripped light mounted on mag tube Mossberg 20gauge. When he saw it at first he laughed then walked out of my house with the tennis racquet cover over his shoulder by the racquet cover's sling. I could also fit a VZ58 with folding stock inside a tennis racquet cover. Keeps them clean, dry and "incognito." Cool thread!! Thanks for starting it. -
Right now I am not going to hit it with the grip reduction tools although every Glock should have a radius cut where the trigger guard meets the grip. That RTF is some bad ass texture. I've read that it will eat through clothes, upholstery and your bare skin. But for a service pistol ready for "wet" hands it would be pretty good. The fish gills don't bother me or enthrall me. Seems like they should have reversed the curve direction of the gills. Its a Glock 9mm - I can live with it.

During my trade today I picked up another in this series. The upper left hand is a 622, aluminum frame, while the one below it is a all steel frame 2206. 622 = 22 oz, 2206 = 37oz.

I traded in to this G17 today, fresh Trijicon NS, 3 mags, box etc. Never had a RTF2 before.
