Great set up for a barrel swap and a certain NFA item:) I've never had a 96, I would imagine the bolt, trigger group and barrel set up are all the same.

As a retired Army guy, former retail gun seller and quite a few times private seller & trader - I wouldn't sell this young man a handgun. Unless he is a resident of TN selling him a handgun is not legal. Even if he were 21 I would want to see his Permanent Change of Station orders and his military ID. Some retailers might require some sort of government proof of residency in either KY or Tn to "back up" the ID and orders. It is the sellers prerogative if they want more than the PCS orders and Mil ID. Some PCS orders might be quite old depending on the specialty and unit assigned, while valid, might raise concern. Sometimes soldiers have "valid" ID cards even though they have been discharged and no longer are assigned to FT Campbell (in this case). I used to tell Ft Campbell service people if they plan on being in the area for a time and it doesn't impact their future plans just get a TN drivers licenses just in case they are out in the "hinterlands" of TN, away from Ft Campbell, and find a good deal on a firearm but the seller doesn't want to hear about military ID and PCS Orders, the seller may want TN ID - period. Then there are just practical reasons when selling a handgun to a young soldier. A short list that comes to mind I have seen over and over: break-in theft after showing handgun at a party at the residence; divorce and wife either sells or takes firearm; wants something else and gun is easy to sell; someone gets killed with the gun. If the service person is less than 21 and does something in another state and their laws are different than TN laws... probably not an issue...but who needs the hassles. I prefer to see a valid TN HCP when selling/trading or at least a TN DL with age 21 or older, generally a lot older. If a 19 yr old service person is serious about needing a firearm for home defense they can legally and easily get a cheap 12 ga. shotgun.

Friday I saw multiple buckets of Rem Golden .22LR at Dicks in Clarksville, but saw no bricks of CCI SV. I didn't even look at the price of the Goldens. Tonight I walked by the ammo in Wal Mart and saw zero of any .22 LR ammo.

I used to like to go to gun shows. I quit going about 4 or 5 yrs ago. If did go I wouldn't even go indoors, I would just cruise the "outside" sales.

I remember reading something that Calfee wrote on barrel profiling and accuracy in true match barrels so I hit "google" for centerfire. Here is a good discussion on the subject of profiling barrels after they have been rifled: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/does-fluting-affect-barrel-accuracy-93904/ Here is another thread, says get the barrel fluted and stressed relieved prior to rifling: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/barrel-fluting-post-build-affect-accuracy-11397/

I put in competition springs in the 92s I had, I think 2lbs less than the DA springs. No MALFs.
-
It wasn't until I retired from the Army I really appreciated the M9. I transitioned around 1987 from 1911 to M9. Retired 11-12 yrs later. Never had a MALF with the M9. I owned two 92s after retiring and thought, other than the size of the grip it is a nice pistol.

This seems reasonable: Supply and install CZ Custom aluminum 2 way adjustable single action trigger and convert to Single Action $100 http://automaticaccuracy.net/?page_id=16 This looks pretty easy:

I'm sure there are other threads about how to change a CZ75 from DA to SA but here is one: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=621380 You might want to just contact this fella and ask him if you want to do a conversion rather than hunt or wait for a factory made SA. https://cajungunworks.com/contact-v1/
-
I think that is as good of an idea as any. Although the 4 or so CZ75s I've had were all standard double actions a friend has one in SA, plus I had a Sig X-Five Tactical for a time that was SA. Full size SA 9mms are fun to shoot, and 1911 9mms are just as fun (I've had several). I view them as range toys or competition guns because I find them somewhat awkward for concealed carry.

Resurrecting a Ranger 22 Long revolver
graycrait replied to xtriggerman's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
xtriggerman, Last time I was in Academy Sports they had several different types of Aguilla. A gun shop I used to volunteer in used to keep just about every different type of Aguilla rimfire on the shelf, as well as many others. It was fun to try out all the different Aguilla ammo though. That was life before gougers...never mind. Have you posted your other rehab projects anywhere? The 1907 .32 to .380 conversion and the Brownie caused me to raise an eyebrow. Is this a hobby or a business for you? -
Better make sure that relative feels he can pass a background check because he will have to when he goes to pickup that handgun from an FFL in MN. I believe, as a seller, to a resident of another state you have to follow the laws of both states or in this case MN might come a knockin on your door. https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/bca/bca-divisions/administrative/Pages/firearms-permit-to-purchase-transfer.aspx http://gun.laws.com/state-gun-laws/minnesota-gun-laws

Resurrecting a Ranger 22 Long revolver
graycrait replied to xtriggerman's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
xtriggerman, I can't wait to see your next installment on gunsmithing, especially barrel relining. This link takes you to Aguilla's specialty rimfire page, click on "Special Products." Scroll down and you will see both of Aguilla's primer fired rounds, Colibra and Super Colibra. Conventional wisdom is use Colibra's in handguns and Super Colibra in long guns. It is possible to lodge a Colibra in a rifle barrel. Fortunately they tapped out with a cleaning rod. The slower velocity Colibras will clear some rifle barrels and some not. https://www.aguilaammo.com/rimfire/ -
And you can buy a fully restored to original specs 1911 1918 year model for a mere $5K from Turnbull.

I have an old friend who likes to shoot that M22 through his Russian made CM2 at 300yrds. I would like to walk into an ammo selling store and stare at 20 different kinds of .22 rimfire on the shelf again while still being able to buy off the shelf bricks of CCI Standard Velocity. Even though that sounds like fantasy it was like that not so long ago.

With a complete sweep of the Executive and Congress and more to come when Supreme Court nominees are made, do you suppose we will find .22lr ammo in quantity and pricing that reflects pre - 2008 sometime this winter? I have this nagging suspicion that supply and pricing will stay pat.

These PWS actions can be a little persnickety to deal with. I had traded this one off some time ago and then got it back on another recent trade. The head space has to be exactly right, chamber clean, etc. Mine is just for backyard quiet plinking with a variety of subsonic ammo. Apparently the complete barrelled actions from PWS work well. The issues seem to be with those of us who cobbled these together with other 1022 barrels. The Fortner Action is the "real deal" in this class of action, where the Izhmash action is closer to the PWS. http://www.fortner-biathlon.com/ http://www.accurateshooter.com/gear-reviews/biathlon-basic-russian-rimfire/

Because you can no longer buy these I thought I would put this out there one last time. This rifle has a T3 Summit toggle action and a T3 trigger group. Mated to a 28" Green Mountain barrel. The receiver will accept any 1022 barrel or any 1022 trigger group and 1022 magazine. This rig is minute of squirrel accurate from 10' to 50yrds as quick as you can point the "cheap" but adequate, Millet red dot. It is an offhand dream. On a bag with a good scope it is even more fun for this old guy. With the right ammo this is very quiet with that long barrel and non semi auto action.

Nice looking women who in some cases look sort of angry in tank tops. OK, I'll accept and pardon me, enjoy that as a marketing ploy. What else is there? I would like to see a nice bolt action .22LR rifle from Springfield. But alas, I imagine it will be either a plastic striker fired pistol or a jazzed up 1911. Yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnn... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

I have never shot a .17HMR. Now I have to. I traded a 1022 I had for this rifle and some ammo and the scope. This model of Savage is the 93R17 BTVXP (Walnut). The scope is a Tasco Target/Varmint 6-24x42 Mildot. I can't wait to see how it shoots at 185 yrds against 2" saltine crackers. If it is easier or more fun shooting saltines at 185 yrds (max range at LBL target range) than my Feddersen nitrided bull barrelled 10/22 I might hang on to it.

Having shot and owned a fair pile of small .22 handguns I think for pocket carry the S&W 317 2" or a 43C would be at the top of the list. I don't feel too bad about the several Jennings J22s I have had. Every time I get one and get it running someone beats me down to sell it to them. I've owned a couple of the Beretta 21s and a Minx in .22short but I am not a big fan of them. I've owned both the steel and poly Taurus copy of the Beretta 21 and you couldn't give me the steel one, but the poly ones are great in my opinion. I like bersaguy's recommendation of the Phoenix HP22. I've had a couple and they worked fine. If it had to be a revolver and I had the money I would hunt down the two airweight S&W J frames over the Ruger LCR. Nothing wrong with the LCR but I think the S&Ws are slicker for pocket carry and are just plain slicker.
-
I have no idea how many J, K and N frames I have owned but even if you don't want to slick up the trigger or there is no need this DVD will allow you to fearlessly tread where most won't go. Watch it once or twice, then get the right tools (minimal cost) and then commence to doing a nice fluff and buff trigger job. http://www.miculek.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9

There seems to be quite of few Martini Cadets that have been converted from .310 to .357 floating around....

I'm not sure I've ever shot Aguilla center fire ammo, but I have shot a lot of their rimfire. They make good rimfire ammo.
