Thanks. I got it off one of the senior moderators on Rimfire Central who had nearly an identical pair of these. Now I have to become a more disciplined shooter to really enjoy it. Of course it likes to eat expensive ammo for really good groups.

I had no idea that Marlin was on the ropes quality control wise. There are lots of threads on this but this one, especially in later pages, is interesing. There is even a way to tell where and when a Marlin was made so as to avoid issues seen with the "Remlins." http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/marlin-rant-forum/77332-state-marlin-firearms-article-rifle-magazine.html

Appparently the best fix if you can't find exactly what you need is to buy a long one and cut it to fit from the cap end.

I've had a couple of hard core gun guys on TGO talk to me about their air rifles now I want to figure out how to get one ($$$). I want a 35 yard very quiet squirrel killing machine. The Benjamin Marauder .25 comes up over and over again, esp., since Green Mountain makes the Marauder's .25 cal barrels. Trouble with PCP is that you need a scuba tank and some where to fill it or a 250.00 pump. I've heard the Gamo Whisper isn't all that quiet. I was wondering if there is a reasonably priced springer that is accurate out to 50 yards, quiet and reliable. Can't buy .22 rds so might as well get a pellet gun. Advantage to the Marauder is that it can hold 8 .25 caliber pellets in a magazine so that you don't have to reload one at a time. Anyone have a cool reliable not terribly expensive QUIET accurate pellet rifle they recommend?

If it were mine I would smooth up the marred section a little bit then use Aluma Black. Don't take any more anodizing off than necessary.

If they only came in red!

Crazy, I was minding my own business today and this Sig 220 .22LR Single Action lands in my lap. I am almost bound to sell some stuff to come up with the .45 ACP upper X-Change kit. In the right hands, not mine, the .45ACP SA 220 will likely run with any .45ACP 1911 in practical shooting. I've shot a small pile of SA Sigs. However, in .22LR it will do whatever it is I do with .22s to some satisfaction. Even crazier is that I got two barrels, one threaded and one standard & two .22LR mags. The grip on these 220s fit my hand better than the double stack 226s and the X-Five I used to own. I wish these came with an X-Change kit in 9mm, but .45 will do. The flash hider was the only thread protector that I currently have, but it does continue a theme for the those who know me.

Top: 29" URS free floated barrel w/Gunsmither "V bock", PWS T3 receiver, Swift 6-18AO Mildot, uber modded trigger group, Archangel Target stock, wght: 8.75lbs. Middle: 24" Green Mountain Running Boar freel floated barrel, Tactical Machining receiver, Redfield 12X SF scope, metal trigger group slightly modded, OEM modded Ruger Mannlicher stock, wght 8lbs. Bottom: 18.5" OEM free floated barrel rechambered recrowned (I think) w/Gunsmither "V Block," OEM birch stock modded receiver with mechanical bedding, OEM poly trigger group w/Kidd kit, Simmons .22 Mag 3-9AO scope, wght: 5.75lbs. All 3 have closed cell foam pressure points in front of the V Block. In the next few weeks I will be trying to see how they really do at 50yards with decent ammo. However, all three are easily minute-of-squirrel head at 60 yards with bulk ammo. In fact when adjusting scopes at 25 yards today the shorty barrel outshot the others with Federal Automatch.

Short on money but long on marginal stocks. Took a hard look at my fav barrelled action: PWS T3 Toggle recvr/URS 29" barrel and Kidd kitted poly trigger group. The stocks I have are OEM Ruger poly (nasty) stock, Archangel target (another project ongoing with that one) and an OEM carbine stock. I tried hogging out the barrel bands, both metal and plastic, to go over the URS barrel and standard stock. No Go! So decided on hogging out the carbine stock to free float the URS barrel, then rasping the area between the barrel band point and the forend. Decided on taking all the OEM finish off and leaving it "white." Although the forend leaves something to be desired the piece seems to resonate. I'm using pencil sinkers (catfish) drilled into the stock to bring the balance to midpoint for off hand shooting. Scope is Swift AO 6-18 Mildot. Put a metal mechanical bed using a cutoff piece very hard piece of metal from a putty knife and closed cell foam pressure points. I couldn't pierce the metal of the putty knife with a standard electric drill and various bits, but used a conical stone for a Foredom to make the holes in the metal bedding sleeve. Crazy!

Philippines gunsmiths emerge from underground
graycrait replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Never seen a made in the Philippines 1911 that didn't flat run right out of the box. I only owned 3 or 4 though. Others I talked to who had them felt the same way. -
GM barrels are just fine. The chamber seems a bit tighter than a OEM Ruger carbine barrel, but I do know a fella who has had his GM barrels rechambered and recrowned and can get sub MOA at 100yards with SK ammo. Much beyond minute of squirrel head at 35 yards for me is over doing it. I would put the GM barrels down as more than adequate for most folks who shoot a variety of ammo. This guy in TN has a very good reputation for making 1022 barrels: https://www.1022rifle.com/buy/barrel

I've had a Lite, in this format (22/45) I really didn't like it, balance and weight seemed off. I like the 22/45 though. I've always wanted to shoot a 1911 with one of these: http://www.marvelprecision.com/unit1.php I have heard that the Nighthawk conversion designed by Bob Marvel himself is supposed to be the equal of the above Unit 1. http://www.nighthawkcustom.com/pistols/22-pistol-22-conversions/22-conversion-units.html I'm pretty sure all other .22 1911s,conversions are mere plinkers compared to the two highlighted above.

Good Ruger MkII / MkIII Reassembly Video
graycrait replied to StPatrick's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I've ripped the mag disconnects out of a dozens of MKIIIs and replaced them with standard MKII bushings or this guys machined product. I took the LCI out of several also. I used this guy's product to fill the gap where the LCI went in mine. I just don't like all the gunk that accumulates around the LCI. If you replace replace the sear and trigger with VQ parts you will drop your trigger pull to a clean 2.75lbs. This part more accurately replaces the space of the mag disconnect in MKIIIs http://www.tandemkross.com/Steel-Ruger-Mark-III-2245-Magazine-Disconnect-Bushing_p_9.html LCI replacement http://www.tandemkross.com/Mark-III-2245-LCI-Replacement-Insert_p_16.html http://www.tandemkross.com/Mark-III-and-2245-Basic-Upgrade-Kit-Combo_p_34.html These are nice replacement parts also: Volquartsen triggers (adjusts for over and pretravel) http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2SS&Category_Code=VC2 http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2TT%2FVC3TT-B&Category_Code=VC2 MKII bushing to be used in place of the MKIII mag disconnect apparatus: http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2HB&Category_Code=VC2 Volquartsen sear will do amazing things for your trigger pull http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2TS&Category_Code=VC2 -
Another .22LR rifle project of mine. Tactical Machining receiver, Green Mountain Running Boar barrel, Ruger modded Mannlicher stock, harrington tricked out trigger, 70's vintage Redfield side focus 10X scope. This stock has seen several barrels and receivers. This is a finished product now, no more changes. Just need to refine the ammo.

Latest bolt action project finally finished!!!

Very cool. -
I was reading that you can scope that thing with rimfire Millet Angle Loc rings and then try and find a Redfield 3200 24" scope for it. If you have good eyes then no need, just use the irons. Here is a source for Redfield 3200s. Don't get them with the costly Redfield rings unless you just want the rings, as they won't work on your rifle. http://unertl.alexweb.net/for_sale.htm Here is a link where a fella with the same rifle was trying to find rings to scope it. http://www.rimfireaccuracy.com/Forums/showthread.php/951-Haenel-KK-Sport-question-from-a-Newbie-... Here is some other info. Interestingly in '07 someone said that these were worth nearly $1,000.00. You do good work. http://www.gunforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/4836/ However, this one sold on gunsmerica for $1700.00 http://www.gunsamerica.com/901903881/Guns/Rifles/H-Misc-Rifles/HAENEL_KK_Sport_Pre_WWII.htm

When I am looking for parts for discontinued guns this is the short list I use: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ http://www.gun-parts.com/index.html/ http://www.jackfirstgun.com/ You have to call Jack First but they have some rediculously hard to fine parts in stock. Also look on Gunbroker.com

Now that is an heirloom rifle. Very cool. Congratulations.

I got mine through Hero Gear in Winchester, Tn. They are a S&W LEO dealer. Thanks. Even though I live just down the road from the one in KY it is in KY and would have to be transferred adding additional cost. I get down to the Winchester area from time to time so will have to make an effort to visit Hero Gear.

The black synthetic stock 336 has had the tube and barrel cut to Marauder length and is reputed to be the ideal brush deer gun but now resides with some engineer at Los Alamos.

Chris, That one with the synthetic stock was a fast to put into action. We went stipple crazy on that one too! I'll check with my gunsmith friend in AL if he still has it. He and I traded some guns 4 times. He is coming up next weekend to trade me out of one of my 1022s for one of my old CZ 452s. I'm going to trade him some ammo, optics and other .22s for new to me .22s. Craig
