  1. thanks, I have enough time and interest to check all the simple solutions first.  kingarmory, thanks for the video link.
  2. It has that horrible recoil rod that you have an insert plug and have to use an allen wrench to turn out the solid guide rod.  The last one of these I saw 5-7 years ago like this had serious function issues.   Can that thing be changed out for standard "GI" plug and spring/rod?    No matter, I guess I need to rebuild this thing from the ground up. I've owned 12 or 13 1911s including a couple of nice but ugly parts guns I put together.   I hate those weird SA guide rods in that particular style of pistol.
  3. After helping a fella bury his dog he hands me about 3/4ths of a 1911, a Springfield 1911 A1 with decent sights.  He asked me to take as long as I want in getting the gun to run.  I asked him "It doesn't reliably go into battery does it?"  He said, "How did you know?"  I told him, "Cause this would be the third Springfield 1911 I have come across that had the same issue."   Does anyone know what the "school solution" to this issue might be? For some reason when he gave me the box of parts it is missing some items that I need to buy and install, but nothing that would effect the action as it currently is.     This guy gives me crazy guns periodically and says, "Keep it (or them) as long as you want."  He gave me 4 SAO Sigs one time like that.  He is currently in the middle of a regime of chemo for Hodgkins, second recurrence, and gave me the gun for "something to do" because I am retired.     Anyway, if someone knows a couple of reasons why a Springfield 1911 won't go into battery let me know so I can fix this thing quick and cheap. And then shoot it for at least 4 months while he is out of country:) !
  4. This was the hardest stock project I have done. I thought I had it before but when looking at it found some issues. Started out as an inletted blank that was roughed out. Stripped the finish off 3 times after seeing more issues, finally am calling it quits on this one.

    Baretta M9

The Beretta 92/m9 is easy to change the hammer spring. I would get both a DAO and competition hammer springs.  You will be amazed at how nice they make the gun run.  I never had a failure to fire with competition springs.
  6. Heard a rumor from a fella who has a kid working for Academy.  Apparently they are going to unleash a mountain of bulk ammo on black Friday.  I'm not going near a store on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.  So maybe some intrepid TGO'r can fill us in if this truth or rumor.
  7. I was fixing a Lorcin .380 for a friend of mine.  It was one of those black ones.  I said to myself, "I may as well give it a good cleaning."  I sprayed it with Gun Scrubber.  Holy smokes!  The paint started dripping off.  I said to myself "Uh oh!"  So no turning back, I took all the finish off that pot metal gun.  One thing about pot metal is that it shines up nice so I put the gun to the buffer.  When I brought it back to him I told him I had some good news and bad news.  Good news is that it works, bad news is that it is a different color. When I opened it up to show him he broke into such a big smile you would have thought he was 6 yrs old and had just gotten a puppy for Christmas.  There is something for everyone out there in gun land.
  8. Having owned 4 or 5 Star 9mms I would keep the Star, for now.  I wouldn't trade it for a Taurus 24/7.
  9. I don't have either of these any longer, too big for practical purposes, as are many other pistols I like and used to own. These two are very impressive shooters: Sig X-Five Tactical Sig 220 SAO Carry
  10. Apparently they are now going into production and should be out in the field early to mid 2015.  This should be interesting.
  11. I fiddled with one of these and thought, this would be interesting suppressed.  I think it would be more useful if it just separated rather than making a "V" when broken down.  I guess it is not only made in .22LR but also in .22WMR and .17HMR.  It would be way cool if it just came with one receiver and 3 barrels in different calibers. Even better would be 4 barrels including .17WSM. I like it but don't need it so won't likely get to shoot one.
  12. I wonder how many folks know that Lorcin is short for Lori and Cindy?
  13. Thanks for the confidence HP, but I already knew this little gun will shoot if fed and cared for right. I wish someone like NAA would make a small .22LR semi auto.  At one time I thought Twisted Industries might come up with a functional .22 conversion for the smallest Keltecs but no dice:  http://twisted.industries/our-store/shop/
  14. I had one of these before and dismantled, smoothed what needed smoothing and shot the tar out of it. A friend needed it badly a few years ago and I let it go. However I do believe it is the smallest .22LR in production, now as Jimenez, rather than Jennings. I have shot both of the .22Short semis, the Beretta 950 and the tiny Astra, but I wanted another J22. One TGO member was going gun shop cruising in Nashville and I asked him to look for either the current production Jimenez .22 or the Jennings. After getting laughed out of two stores I think he decided.... well anyway, I finally nabbed another. You can see that the Jennings just about matches the Keltec P32 for profile size. My KT 32 is underneath the J22 in the pic.
  15. A local pawn shop just got in 250 or handguns from its sister pawn shops who do not sell guns. Yes, I passed by 1911s, Glocks, .22WMR Automag, High Standard Sport King, Bauer .25 S&W Model 10 with 2" barrel among many others for this little "gem."
  16. If you buy it I'll shoot it.  Looks like a Nano with a kink.
  17. Anyone heard where Remington stands with regards to the new improved R51?  I thought they were supposed to "restart" production in OCT 2014?
  18. Desantis pocket holster weak hand front pocket carrying Keltec .32 holding vintage 1982 FN FMJ bullets. Keltec has the Golden Loki fluff and buff plus aftermarket trigger shoe.
  19. What I find most interesting about the .22 "thing" is how some people act when they get within spitting distance of bulk ammo at big box retail prices. Almost like heroin addicts, with no regard for anyone but themselves.  Go fishing, shoot an arrow, get a pellet gun, get a shotgun or another hobby until this thing settles out.       What peeves me a might is that every time I look for reloading stuff for my .22 Hornet I find, "out of stock, no back order."  Good thing I have some friends who had stuff prior to the foolishness.   I still haven't picked up a decent pellet rifle, which would just about put any .22LR angst I have to bed.  I am spending my firearm hobby money on another non firearm hobby until the dust settles.  This is what the firearm industry should be afraid of, people getting turned off and meandering off to other pursuits.  Little regard for demand seems an odd way of looking out for the future of the industry.  Maybe all other facets of the industry are still going full out bringing in all sorts of cash, enough to say, "the heck with .22s."  Can anyone honestly suggest to someone that buying a .22 firearm at this time is a smart move?  Seems to me that a pellet rifle and a 5.56, along with centerfire pistols and maybe a pistol caliber carbine make a lot more sense.
  20. ammo production has remained at relatively consistent production levels with pre-sandy hook numbers vs a demand level maintained by gougers and hoarders, more gun sales,  lots of high capacity .22 plinkers and "tactical" pistols/conversions.  Profit per round too low for increasing capacity.   It won't happen but a .22lr buying moratorium would help especially those folk who buy from gougers out of panic, and seem to continue to do so. Paying 10+ cents a round for ammo that a big box store can sell for 5 cents is the act of the rich or numb skulls.  Sure prices have gone up but the store I work at didn't start selling firearms until a little over a year ago and their price, when they have it of 100 rd boxes of Winchester Super X is 7.49.  Armscor 36 brain HV hollow points were 3.59 the other day.  I saw CCI Quiet and Std Velocity midday for sale at Walmart just in the last few weeks.  I think the days of sub 4 cent ammo may be over whatever the reason.  I would be happy to be able to buy a case of CCI Std Velocity and call it a year.  Fortunately I have been able to live off of my pre-Sandy Hook ammo for the most part, but have gathered a few bricks here and there through gun trading.  Funny thing is that in certain retailers there seems to be a lot of Norma Tac 22 floating around for around 11-12 cents/rd.  The gougers are still successful in perpetuating the myth and fanning irrational fears that the party controlling the executive branch is just minutes away from creating an executive order that will essentially do away with .22LR ammo forever.
  21. You couldn't give me a Taurus PT22, mine had the frame split down the middle.  HoweverI have shot hundreds of rounds throught Poly version using Yelllow Jackets, Hper Velocity Aguillas and probably a brick of 60 grain Auilla SSS rounds.  The problem with the poly is that it is comfortable, meaning quite fat in the grip.  I have owned two Berretta Bobcats in .22LR and they were both semi unreliable.  Download them 1 round and they seemed in memory to work fine, but they two are fat little guns.  Ditto the comment on "I would buy a Keltec P32 sized .22LR ina minute."  Trouble is the closest thing to that is the Jimenez/Jennings JA 22. There simply is no reliable really small .22LR semi auto.
  22. I saw enough.  If this thing retails for more than 300.00 I am not interested.  I can always get a working Beretta CX Storm, but hate how it looks and the cost is off putting for me.  Better off getting a Hi Point of which I have had two, but no more of those for me either.  Had the sub 2000 too and didn't like it much.
  23. Has anyone handled one of these and if so what were the impressions?   https://www.legacysports.com/m-1-9mm-carbine
  24. Way cool!

    Hi Powers

If you just want a shooter and save some money you might want to get one of the Hungarian FEG BHP clones. I got one some years ago just to use to learn the internal workings and to do a trigger job on one.  After I satisfied that curiosity I got rid of it.  I was too cheap and afraid I would damage the more expensive BHP for what I wanted it for.  If you want to go to the other end of the spectrum this might be a good place to start:  http://www.hp1911.com/index.php/srthp
