  1. I bet I see a single stack 9mm Glock before I see a case of CCI Std Velocity.   What is the deal with .22 Hornet. I never can find that stuff.
  2. THere was a rumor prior to Black Friday about retailers holding back ammo but I don't think they do that and I heard of nothing like that on B Friday. Big boxes want to turn product as fast as possible. It doesn't make sense for a big box store to hold back ammo.  Ammo is just another product, with no more intrinsic value than diapers, beer or bananas.
  3. I predict the gougers can create this false scarcity for quite some time.  Their margins may begin to fall but when you can buy something for a mere 25.00 and sell it for 40, 50+ it still beats most investments and only costs some time waiting in a line.  I won't do it.  Out of pure dumb luck I scored a bucket of Goldens for less than 60 bucks a couple of weeks ago. I traded it to a young cop friend of mine who has a son who likes to shoot for a breakfast at Shoney's.  He got a good deal for 8 bucks.
  4. saw some 35 Rem ammo for sale at Clarksville Rural King today.
  5. PS  IF Remington can make the R51 work well I would forget about the Glock SS 9mm, I have a couple of infallible Glocks and a Keltec, but I do like the full grip safety of the R51, sort of HKP7 in reverse, but due to some hand reconstruction issues I can't safely use a HKP7.  However, I am betting that the new and improved R51 either does not come to market or that it will have issues soon after re-release.
  6. While not holding my breath, I will line up for a single stack 9mm Glock that is near 42 size. Every day I see those 300.00 NIB Shields makes me want to get one, but I will wait to see if Glock produces a Shield beater.
  7. Walther PPS is fascinating except for the price.
  8. or a "Four Five"
  9. DAmnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hang on to those.  I think I am going to get the long gun version of Mouseguns, The Chiappa Little Badger, which will force me to finally get a suppressor.  Which means the mousegun suppressor, Huntertown Micro.
  10. I've been waiting for a single stack 9mm Glock that makes sense for some time, long before the .380 42.  I really think Glock is out of touch and is on a sure road to continue to lose market share to S&W through the Shield.  Through the LEO/Mil S&W program I can currently buy a 9mm Shield for 299.99, yet I wait for a single stack Glock.
  11. I had one in .45 some years ago, neat piece of steel.  But I am interested in .22LR mouse gun oddities.  Sterling, Steel City Double Deuce, etc.  I'm going to go on a slow .22LR mouse gun binge.   At this stage of the disease I am only interested in .22LR mouseguns.
  12. Oh Shoot has it right on the extractor. I have VQ extractors on my 3 1022s and routinely but them in folks' 1022s who are having ejection issues.     The hammer forged spiral looking Target 10/22 barrels are really nice barrels, although even they may need a chamber tweak.  The trigger in the 1022 Target still needs help.  The only thing "target" about the new 1022 Targets is the barrel and for the money they want for one I would still get a plain jane and my own aftermarket barrel and cobble some sort of trigger job together.   Remember when you have a target barrel you still need to find a subsonic ammo that particular barrel likes.  Feddersen right here in TN makes a dandy target barrel.  http://www.1022rifle.com/   If you want to talk aftermarket 10/22 barrels one of our forum members, Plinker4life, has a nice collection of some of the finest on the market:  Kidd, McGowen, Feddersen, etc.   What I don't like about target barrels is the weight of a full .920 barrel.  My favorite is this one:  http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/17-heavy-taper-sporter-replacement-barrel-22lr/   My second favorite 1022 barrel is this one: http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/10-22-running-boar-target-barrel-blue-long-rifle/  This is a great barrel to put in an offhand stock to hit moving targets using a red dot.   If I had more cash than sense I would get a Feddersen 17" Heavy Taper barrel, Kidd trigger kit in a Ruger OEM Poly trigger housing, send a Ruger bolt to Que, bed this in a B&C target/varmint stock or get one of these:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Victor-Company-USA/223957060947899  then I would have to get a serious scope and unfortunately would have to buy ammo that costs over 10 cents a round at least.    But if you are feeling froggy then followup what these guys are doing:  http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509155

  14. best thing would be to get a cheap 10/22, academy sports has plain janes for 199.00 I believe.  Then go to this website to see what you might want to do to it.  When it comes to 1022s, stock is never fun. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.php   If all you ever want to do is shoot whatever ammo you can find then probably leave it stock with optics that will support minute of squirrel head.  Ruger stock barrels are good barrels with good bores with loose chambers to accommodate whatever ammo is shoved into the magazine.  If you want to make a stock gun shoot lights out then you need a trigger job, which you can do yourself or send it here:   http://brimstonegunsmithing.com/ruger-1022-1/ or just replace the stock hammer with a Volquartsen hammer or install a Kidd trigger kit.  Next step is to get your OEM barrel rechambered and get your bolt headspaced and the firing pin "pinned' so that it hits the rim in the same place every time.  You can buy an aftermarket bolt and barrel but if you like the way your stock gun looks then send the bolt and barrel to this guy: https://sites.google.com/site/quesplace/
  15. Marshall St. John was the brother of one of my H.S. mates, Leslie St. John.  I wish I had known him better.  What little interface he and I had personally was very nice and no "I know more than you know" sort of thing.  Just a nice exchange.  Seemed like a fella who could "agree to disagree" without a lot of negative baggage. Sort of hard to find that sort of fella in the gun game.
  16. I went to high school with Mousegunner's sister.  Mousegunner told me about her early death and then a short couple of years later he succumbs to the same disease.  I had never knew of him prior to his website. We had a couple of nice private dialogues.  I'm of a mind to finding a Galesi, Excam, Bauer, Astra and maybe a baby Browning.
  17. You must have small hands.....just sayin'   LOL, was wondering when this would come up:)     When I said very loud in the pawn shop, "I like tiny guns," the two women in the shop looked at me and smiled that Mona Lisa smile.
  18. If I have to save my butt the Keltec .32 wins.  I am probably going to get a Bauer .25, Galesi, Excam and a Astra Cub to round out this little group.
  19. Stumbled across this today for my small mouse gun accumulation. Bottom is a Beretta 950 .22Short, 95%+. Odd thing is how I got it. One of our local pawn shops is part of a chain of some 400 shops. This one is the only one in the region that sells guns. I had picked up the chrome Jennings .22 a couple of weeks ago and the clerk told me that I could put in a request list and when one of the guns was available in their system that they would try and get it to me. I figured for the three "obscure" .22s I wanted that it would take 6-12 months. I was surprised to get a call from the store manager today that one of my three requested guns came in, after only 2 weeks. I told them I hope the other two guns don't come in for a month or two.
  20. I would not keep a modern Taurus revolver.  I had 3 from the early 90s that worked well but I have seen a lot of them the last few years that didn't work, or worked poorly.  The examples above are indicative of the usual problems I have seen.  Getting a good new S&W or Ruger or used S&W, Ruger, Dan Wesson or Colts is money better spent. I would take a Rock Island .38 before I would take a late model Taurus .38.
  21. I own both and have owned many .22 rifles. Maybe 100+. I have friends who own many great shooting .22s. I think the ruger American rimfire is the best shooting .22 rifle this side of 600.00 or better. If you want a 1022 to shoot as well as the american you will need to rechamber the barrel and headspace the bolt and pin the firing pin.
  22. I like it but in my search for the most cost effective easy to carry reliable handgun it comes up short of a G19.
  23. Google Grant Cunningham Lube 101.
  24. Just get a copy of Jerry Miculek's "Trigger Job." When buying spurless hammers some hand fitting will likely be required. This hand fitting can be confounding for a beginner.
