I am buying a Shield, who has the best price?
graycrait replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Handguns
cheapest I have seen them is at a "blue label" S&W dealer here at 299.99 + tax + background. Quantico Tactical. THat was a special sale I believe, as I think normal price is 329.99. -
It is the same .22 Conversion kit as used in the full up Nighthawk. I just got off the phone with Larry Nelson after ordering one of the kits to put on my Springfield frame. Due to the success this conversion had at Camp Perry this year they are currently backordered. The good thing is that you can essentially change the order up until the day before it ships if you want to. They don't charge your card until the unit ships. I'm going to start with the basic kit and maybe later buy an optic rail. I have some work to do on my 1911 trigger and hammer, but I have time before the kit arrives. Check the last post of this thread: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=527269&highlight=nelson This the closest I found to a negative thread and hardly so: http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?t=43120

I had know that Bob Marvel had left Marvel Precision back in '03 and now has been with Nighthawk but lost track of his improved 1911 .22 conversion kit. Even though the mags are proprietary I think I will go with the Nelson kit. 1st it is just as accurate, cheaper with threaded barrel, safe to dry fire, and has last shot lock back. Reviews are outstanding too. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=457915 https://www.facebook.com/NelsonCustomGuns http://www.nelsoncustomguns.com/store/index.php?l=product_list&c=2

apparently the cheaper plastic Kimber .22 conversion mags work well with the Marvel. I inherited a Springfield Loaded I got running for a friend, he said, "Keep it, 1911's are like Trophy Super model wives. Sure they look good at your side but do you really want to count on one when you need them." So now I have the platform for a Unit 1. I haven't owned a 1911 for a few years. If I could find a used Marvel Unit 1 I would probably go that route but I haven't seen one around for sale. I don't know how long the wait time is from Marvel yet, and don't see any being sold by vendors like MidwayUSA, etc. I've always liked 1911 triggers and with a good conversion I might be able to hit a beverage can or two;) Tuning this rig up to fire both .22 and .45 gives me something new to fiddle with.

My wife wants to buy me a Marvel Unit 1 for a decade birthday of mine coming up. Just wondering about a couple of things before she hits the order button tomorrow or Friday.

I can do a Keltec 32 well one-handed weak hand and a G19 too, but the little 9's I have had previously were hard to handle one-handed left-hand. I have this suspicion and have received formal training that if I need a "hideout" gun to save my bacon then other things have likely gone wrong too, so although I can use a two-handed strong hand grip in a modified weaver stance passably well I'm not counting on it. I'm figuring left handed one handed from the fetal position might be likely.

Looking at an earlier thread got me to looking at the specs of the CM and PM 9. That and some fella even mentioned trading me a PM9 for one of my pistols. I was wondering how they handled in fast self defense shooting. I don't see them as all afternoon fun range toys. I owned a CW9 when they first came out and I must have been underwhelmed because I do not still have it. However, in lieu of waiting for Glock to come out with a smallish single stack 9mm, which may never happen, I was wondering about these little Kahr 9mms. At 14oz they must be handful to shoot especially fast one handed. I used to own LC9s with Galloway trigger guts, Diamondback DB9 and Keltec PF9s. The Diamondback and PF9 were hard to hold shooting fast one handed weak hand. With a better recoil spring and the Galloway guts the LC9 worked well but someone needed mine worse than I did so traded it. Can a fella get quick decent follow up shots with the little Kahr using a one handed grip or does muzzle flip significantly slow followups?

I've seen #1 and #2 for sale on GB and Armslist and on Gunwonersclub but I don't have burning hunger to pay extra any longer for shipping and the trials that entails at times. My experience with online gun buying has been the seller is adamant about rapid payment but in the two instances I did order online, shipment was done at at a very casual, unhurried, slow pace. Gun guys can be a funny bunch.

I just want to check these 3 small .22LR semi-auto pistols out before I really try and find one for me. If you are anywhere near the Clarksville area and have any of these three and don't mind me taking a close look at it/them let me know: 1) Sterling 2) Wilkinson Sherry 3) Steel City or Desert Industries - Double Deuce http://americanhandgunner.com/almosts-the-22-double-deuce/

I have no dog in this fight and shed myself of all revolvers several years ago. I suspect I can do an action job on a S&W or Ruger as well as most who are so inclined and limited to the kitchen table. I've had a fair pile of S&Ws over the years. If in nice shape 450.00 seems reasonable if you look at how much S&W charges for their Classics series. A new Mdl 10 MSRPs for 700.00+. However much I like the machinery of a nice revolver and I used to think the Ruger or S&W designs were the top of heap when it came to reliability for a personal defense handgun, I have since changed my mind and think any of the top tier "plastic" pistols exceed any revolver for utilitarian purposes except for tent peg pounding or skull bashing. After the last combat handgun course I took using revolvers the instructor asked me, What did you think? I replied, I'm selling both of these revolvers and sticking with a Glock 19. Why did I say that? Cause if I ever need more than 5 or 6 bullets the manual dexterity to reload under pressure or injury is too great and too slow. Will I as a 60 yr old "gray man living under the radar" ever need more than 5 or 6 shots, probably not. But I want a ready option cause I know how easy it is to miss when "things happen." However, a nice .357 6" or longer barrel is a nice thing to have for slinging lead at long ranges for fun.

I've got a notion to try one of these out if I can find one in the Nashville/Clarksville area. If you see one let me know. Thanks.

Lowpower, The best 1911 shooter I have ever seen, and he is good with a lot of pistols, told me that he thinks the Sig SAO 220 is the most accurate fastest shooting .45ACP this side of $3,000.00. He has to carry a SA 1911 for his federal job and he ain't a lawyer or accountant.

Come on, just get the RIA Tactical and you can afford to buy a lot of ammo. I have a SA Loaded that Rowdy wants me to get "running'. This isn't the first "high dollar" 1911 that I have had that runs like crap. I have owned 3 RIAs in 3 different calibers and they all ran....out of the box. If you need to you can always buy Wilson Combat internal parts and they will be 98% drop in, 100% in most cases, if you think you need "USA" internals. Rock Island, made by Armscor, are probably as well cast as anything that anyone in the world can turn out but want to bash because RIA delivers at an attractive price point for the common man.

I love 1911 triggers, 9mm 1911s for range play and have 0 interest in high dollar 1911s unless you are a competitor or are required to carry a 1911 as LEO (FBI SWAT for one). The most expensive 1911 I owned was a Dan Wesson Pointman and it didn't do anything better than my 3 Rock Islands I used to have. I have a Springfield Loaded in my safe that is the biggest POS 1911 I have ever hand in my hand and I have had a couple of turd 1911s. If this SA Loaded were mine and I had an interest in getting another 1911 I would trade this off for a NIB or used Rock Island Tactical in a "New York minute." I used to have a an all original '68 IH Scout. It worked, rode rough, horrible gas mileage, high maintenance. Reminds me of a 1911 compared to newer designs.

I used to have a P7 and I can tell you what happens if you touch the gas port at the right/wrong time. But I am more interested in how the Walther CCP fires and its ability to have the slide easily manipulate for people with "weak" hands due to age, arthritis, injury, etc.
-
The only reason I am interested in this is that it may be a comfortable pistol for small handed people and appears to have an easy to manipulate slide for those, who for whatever reason, can't manage "normal" slides. The "gas piston" and supposed low muzzle rise intrigues me also. http://www.waltherarms.com/ccp/

http://www.gunsholstersandgear.com/shot-show-2015/ Single Stack Glock in 9mm This one seems pretty solid. When I spoke with aGlockrep at the 2014 show, he gave me a wink and nudge when I asked about a 9mm version of theGlock 42. Since that time, I’ve heard several people talking about it. However, the strongest rumor I caught was at the2014 NASGW Showwhen I ran into another industry person who claimed to have seen a working prototype of a Glock 42-like pistol in 9mm. Lets hope this one is real. Read the original article here:http://www.gunsholstersandgear.com/shot-show-2015/. Good alternatives to spending 70-80 bucks on a Ruger trigger: http://www.coolguyguns.com/KIDD-Trigger-Job-Kit-with-Hammer-Sear-Disconnect-and-Trigger-blade_p_95.html http://brimstonegunsmithing.com/ruger-1022-1/ I've shot both and they are both quite good.

Good find and good persistence.

http://www.targetshootingsolutions.com/gun_mufflers.html I am never going to get off my butt to buy a suppressor. However, this would satisfy my desire for a backyard shooting rig if it works. I'm thinking a pvc pipe and sound proofing foam with some plexi glass. I just need something to quietly test fire my experimental .22 pistols and rifles.
