Out of the 13 or 14 1911s I have owned I have had 3 Armscor RIAs:  .38 Super, 9mm and .45.  They all ran well out of the box.  At the time I had the .38 Super I ran across a 9mm 1911 barrel/pin/link from SARCO for 49.99, ordered it, dropped it right in to the .38 Super and commenced to firing.  I couldn't believe it.  At the range I found no discernible difference between shooing a Dan Wesson Pointman 9 vs the RIA 9mm, but then none of the major manufacturers have asked me to shoot for them:)  If it were me I would get the RIA Tactical so that at some later date you can fit better sights if you want to.  If you get the GI model and you decide you want better sights you will have to pay someone to cut dovetails in your slide and between sights and the machining you would be better off with the slightly more expensive RIA Tactical. I don't know which sight cuts the RIA Tactical has but I'll bet there are some after market sights that will fit.

Most fun shooting single action 9mm I ever owned was the Sig X-Five Tactical. But like most of the good triggered single actions that are fun to shoot at the range, they tend to be big or heavy compared to the easy to carry usual suspects.

I put the Nelson on a little used Springfield Loaded frame and tossed the .45 upper in an ammo can where it might reside for the rest of its days.  I have yet to do any serious trigger/hammer/sear disconnector work on the 1911 but fully expect to have to do some work to get a standard velocity round to work well.  Maybe not, but am not holding out for a miracle. Larry Nelson's conversion is Camp Perry quality.  He now has 3 chamber grades, plinking, match and bullseye, but I think most sent out are bullseye (tightest) unless otherwise specified.  The Kimber conversion (I have friends who have them) is a decent range gun.  Nelson's conversion is bullseye competition capable.  Am I, doubt it, but have hung around those sorts of guys just to see what it takes.  I have too many other hobbies and probably some inherent shortcomings.  I figured with 485.00 to the door, why not get the best?  I can't wait to go shooting one of these days with my TGO'r friend who has a Clark Custom S&W 41 or my other buddy who has a Sig Target Elite SAO 220 in .22lr. The good thing about Larry's conversion is that he is a shooter and has a reputation in the bullseye community with this conversion.  The above comment highlights Larry's commitment to customer service. I actually expect some hiccups because I refuse to shoot anything but standard velocity ammo.  But I like to tinker and figure I will have a great shooting conversion when I am finished.     If I had wanted minute-of-beer-can accuracy I would have just got another Advantage Arms conversion for a Glock. Had several of those and never was impressed.

I can't remember if I already posted this but some of you may know that the Nelson conversion has done well in bullseye competition this year and apparently had more than a good showing at Camp Perry. This is the conversion that Bob Marvel, formerly of Marvel Precision (he left in 2003), has been working on for some years. This was also marketed by Nighthawk for a awhile. Larry Nelson is and has been a close associate of Bob Marvel's. Anyway, Larry Nelson and his son decided to market this conversion. Barrels are Shilen and machining is done by McMillan. From what I have seen on targettalk and rimfirecentral is that the Nelson conversion and his customer service are first tier. Mine should be arriving by Fedex in the next couple of days. I'm getting the threaded barrel conversion with small fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear. I've had at least 4 Star BMs over the years and a couple of 1911 9mms, from Dan Wesson to Rock Island.  I would save my money for a RIA 9mm or even a Citadel 9mm which is made by Armscor who also makes Rock Islands. I've seen the Citadels routinely priced at $375.00. 

I traded into one of these w/o the threaded barrel, although a compact, with a  with another TGOr.  He had it in a Boyd's stock and had the OEM stock along with it.  The trigger had already been adjusted to about 1.75lbs.  Took it to a private range near Nashville.  Loaded it with std velocity ammo and shot some groups with a couple of other fellas.    I have had a pile of bolt action .22 rifles and I like this one better than the CZs or the Anschutz I had.  There is something cool about a "low" priced great shooting .22LR rifle that appeals to my sense of cheapness/value:)  I put the barreled action back into the OEM stock because I took the OEM stock and leaned it on a step and stepped on it with quite a bit of weight and was surprised how rigid it was.  Too bad Savage doesn't have a RAR-like stock on their Bmags.  I am hoping to get the rifle to shoot as well with the OEM stock as it did with the Boyds.   Had to order the long LOP raised comb as this compact only had the short LOP butt stock pieces.  Another thing I like about the stock is its ability to go low or high comb depending on users optics or sighting wishes.     Fortunately I have been able to accumulate enough bricks of CCI SV, Wolf, SK, Eley and some other std vel ammo to give this thing a work out this spring.    I have to parrot what one online reviewer mentioned is that it is strange that Ruger didn't or couldn't develop the RAR with the same rail screw hole pattern as the 10/22 and didn't allow for a quick change of the barrels.

I've had mine for some years now, very good product.   https://targetmeister.com/store/target_stands   One thing they don't show is that the end caps on the legs can be removed and furring strips slid through them for additional stability.  The lower cross piece can extend out both sides and secured to the ground also, making this portable stand very wind resistant.  I carry mind around with furring strips and stakes in an old folding cordura chair bag.  You will also note that you can make this pretty wide or as tall as you like.

I don't understand why all the big names don't do this.  Slapping on some relatively inexpensive stocks, grips and forearms seems lame.

I've tried a bunch of Glock after market. As some of you know I have had pile of Glocks and used to work on quite a few for other people around town or FT Campbell.  I had a Gen 4 19 for a short while didn't do anything for me.    All those Glocks are gone now except for my Gen 3 26 and my very first Glock, a Gen 3 19, although I have had Gen 1's and 2's.  IMHO the Zev Tech Fulcrum trigger can't be beat:  http://zevtechnologies.com/Products/Trigger-Kits/ZEV-Adj-Fulcrum-Trigger-Drop-In-Kit-1st-3rd-Gen-9mm-Blk-Blk_2.html   This is a close second:  http://glockparts.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=931485&CAT=750  Of course you will need to install a different connector like a Ghost or something.   At the very least just do a 25 cent trigger job, put in the latest greatest lightest Glock OEM connector and shave the trigger shoe safety down so that if collapses flush with the trigger shoe when the shoe is depressed.  That raised ridge aggravates me in long range sessions. 

What I found at this place if you know your guns and bide your time you can pick up something pretty nice depending on what your interests are.  A fella I know got a great deal on a 3-screw Ruger Blackhawk and picked up an old Winchester .44WCF.  I asked them to find me a Beretta 950 BS (Minx) and they found one in very good condition.  If you want gr8smiles type guns at 90yr old widow yard sale prices probably not a place to go.  Some of the guns are priced kind of high IMHO for their condition but if you are a cagey negotiator you might get really lucky.  I sometimes think I need to start wearing them down on one or two S&W revolvers they have. Its a pawn shop in a chain of around 400 stores.

OK, I probably am not bumming that much as my carry guns have sifted through the chaff over a wide number of years - just wanted to see Glock come out with a gun that would take maket share away from guns like the Shield, LC9 series or Kahrs.  

Glock has finally lost me.  I have two Glocks that are permanent fixtures in this house but I won't buy another.  OK, I have probably had 2 dozen over the years, but I am done.  Damn! I want the Remington R51 to work:)!

Yeah, I don't want the rest of mid TN going in my private collection.  They even look through all 400 stores incoming guns to see if they have a gun you request.  I've picked up a couple and a friend of mine has picked up a couple there as well.  If you know guns and what you want you can end up with a very good deal.   

No single stack 9mm.  I guess they figure everyone buying a Shield, LC9S or Kahr will eagerly shed themselves of those good guns when Glock finally releases a gun consumers want in large numbers.  Glock + 2015 = lame.

That is the only handgun I have seen lately that wets my appetite. All it needs is an optic, sling and suppressor. Can't wait to hear a range report using a wide variety of ammo from steel cased to sub sonic.  If that thing will shoot whatever you feed it then it goes to the top of my, "when I sell my pickup, I want one of those." 

Wait until after Shot Show and see what new comes out.
