  1. can you shoot .32 acp in a .327?  Talk about versatile if it can.  With the right rounds subsonic bunny rounds.
  2. I was over at a friend's house yesterday and he was swapping out the stock hammer/sear for a Wilson Combat sear/hammer set. Rack the slide with the trigger pulled and held with the OEM trigger/sear, no follow, do the same thing with the WC hammer/sear and the hammer follows the slide.   Any ideas?
  3. http://bearingarms.com/top-three-contenders-u-s-militarys-xm17-modular-handgun-system-contract/   After reading this I I have no clue who might be contenders.  The Beretta APX looks like a Wather - how can that be? The Detonics/STI looks too expensive based on the low volume .45 version and the Sig 320 just looks bad.

  5. Hope the products are cheaper than the "Blue Label" S&W prices at QT.
  6. Cool rig. I worked on this guy's gun one time a few years ago.   http://www.trevorbaucom.com/
  7. ehull2000,   stop in at rural king in the next day or day or so.  We might like to talk about modding handguns.  Ask Richard and Tim, they know me. I normally shoot some modded .22s, both handguns and long guns, as well as one really cool Savage short action built by one of the TGO moderators.   Craig Harrington Clarksville, TN
  8. I've worked firearm retail for maybe 5 or 6 years years and carried one for as part of making a living for 30 yrs. I can't count the number of folks who have asked me to change up the grip of their Glock.  I quit doing any grip reductions a few yrs ago just because I was bored with it and didn't want to upset the ATF.  But I really like the Glock mechanism and think its plastic frame allows it to easily be shaped to the shooter's  paw.  Orthopedic issues can make this a requirement.  If I could stuff the Glock mechanism  into a S&W M&P frame then we would be close, but only close, to perfection. Although I went to both Armorer's school more as a curiosity, I think the S&W is just to fiddly to compete with the Glock action.  The Glock has a sort of crappy stock feel that can be enhanced with some "work' but would really sing if it was in the S&W frame.  I've put a dremel and woodburning pen to the S&W M&P, but it is a bit closer to the ideal average grip than is the Glock.
  9. Fascinating.  I hope I get to see one of these "inserts" in action someday other than on Youtube.
  10. That insert really sounds neat.  How does it keep from damaging the rifling of the host barrel?
  11. I had a RAR with a 1.75lb trigger, great rifle and shot as well as any of the 4 or 5 CZ's I used to have.  Heck, shot as well as any bolt .22 I had.  Traded it to a young guy who can't shoot worth a spit and now with the RAR he is stoked that he can shoot something akin to a group. After all the plinkers I have had over the years I would put the RAR at near the top of the list in terms or reliability and accuracy.  I wouldn't bother spending more than what an RAR costs until you want to jump up to an Anschutz.
  12. Looks like Sam and Mack are in good hands.
  13. Jonin,   I like your MKIII suggestion but it would have to be a 22/45 Lite for him to work.  Maybe if it had a recess to sit in where his cupholder sits with one of those bolt pull back extensions with a 1.75lb trigger.   Sam's hands don't work like ours.  I should have taken some pics.   Thanks for the suggestions though.  Brainstorming should turn up some good ideas for Sam.   Craig
  14. Saw a young man, Sam, today with his dad, Mack.  The young guy has some serious muscle issues and is wheel chair bound.  He could not pull the hammer back on an LCRX or pull the trigger, but it was close.  Smart young guy and thoughtful dad.  They were from the Knoxville area and I am from Clarksville, but I told them I suspect I can find some folks in the Knoxville area who could help in finding some kind of light, low recoil handgun that Sam could work, even with modifications to his wheel chair or the gun itself. Sam's control "knob" for his wheel chair is a wood six gun grip, which I thought was cool.  I've been able to help some handicapped shooters in the past and it really makes you think.  I sent a pm to Gordon, Dolomite Supafly, but I'll forward any helpful info to Sam and Mack.  You almost have to see the set-up and meet Sam to come up with viable suggestions.   Thanks,   Craig Harrington Clarksville, TN
  15. Granted, any Glock that has a grip job and stippling is worth less than stock in my book no matter how nice it looks.  I've had a pile of Glocks and anyone who tells me that certain Glocks are collectable is kidding themselves.  That is the beauty of the things, purely utilitarian.   It ain't like Glock grip reductions and stippling is akin to custom Colt engraving by a Colt sanctioned engraver. But I am pretty sure I can get 3/8" of LOP by some judicious "dremeling" which is what I needed to get my wife's Glock 9mm to fit her.   That was well before the 43 or the 42.  I may yet get her a 42 and run off with her 26.
  16. One of these days I am going to get to shoot a 43 and then likely buy one.  Thanks for the heads up on the baseplates.  I don't pay much attention to Glock aftermarket these days.
  17. A long time retired Special Forces Chief Warrant friend of mine, who in the late 60's shot competitively for the Army, told me that they used to wrap tape around the 1911 grip safety in Viet Nam.  Fast forward about 40 years or so.  This same retired SF guy was telling me about a GI style 1911 his son in law gave him, but due to his "fleshy" weak hands from diabetes he couldn't reliably depress the grip safety. He laughed when I told him he could borrow my 100 MPH tape. I installed a beavertail with pronounced speed bump on it for him. I personally don't like grip safeties, even having to had to carry a 1911 for the Army for some years prior to transitioning to the M9.  I like the idea but not the execution.  That is why I was intrigued by the Remington R51 with the full length backstrap grip safety.  When I played with one in a shop when they first came out I thought, "Now that it is a grip safety that no matter how you grabbed the pistol you could lay enough flesh on it to disengage it.  Then it turns out the R51 is a piece o' .....
  18. There is plenty of advice online on how to do a grip reduction.  If you don't have a vice and a dremel or a good bench grinder with a 3/8 or 1/2 wide wheel it can be a bit more tricky I suppose. A wood burning pen to stipple is pretty cheap.  I used modeling clay to plug the grip channel where I didn't want filler and then poured black tinted Brownell's acraglas into the void.  On my first prototype I ground too much off the back to my liking but simply used black industrial Devcon 290 to build the grip back up to where it fit me perfectly.  It doesn't look as nice as the 15 or 20 grip reductions I did subsequent to that one but it is the one of the last two Glocks I have and it shoots great for me.  Bore axis is almost as low as a HK P7, and points like a finger to the target.   I never found a stock pistol that fit me as well as this G19 and I had a pile.  It got worse finding the perfect pistol after the hand surgery.  I'm all for making the tool fit the person rather than hoping that someone makes a tool that might fit. After a dozen Sigs, HKs, too many 1911s to count, and dozens of poly framed guns I still have two grip reduced Glocks as my primary large capacity handguns.  All the others are gone and I have no intention of getting any others.
  19. Lowpower, very cool pair of rifles and projects.  Who is going to do the barrel lining and chamber - also what chamber?      After reading a few books on rimfire shooting, including Calfee's, I decided I am and always be a plinker.    But some of the rudimentary things of accurate shooting fascinate me.     I had a friend years ago who was on several Olympic Biathlon Teams and competed for the US in world championships in Biathlon.  Whole other game than bench and plinkers like me.   These two websites are probably high on the list of serious paper punchers.     http://www.accurateshooter.com/category/rimfire/   http://www.targettalk.org/
  20. Just by talking about it I doubt one can appreciate how the rotational barrel action mitigates recoil in this design.  Best find someone who will lend you one or a shop where you can rent one.
  21. As long as it is not the subcompact, cause the subcompact does not have the same rotational action as the full size and compact.  I had a compact on long term loan to me a few months back.  That had to be the easiest shooting pistol for its size I have ever shot.  One retired LEO who was shooting it described it, "You forget you are shooting it is so easy." I really liked it and appreciated the loan of it.  I couldn't justify another handgun and was able to find a home for it for the friend who lent it to me.  If I inherit one I would keep and carry it.  It ate everything I put in it and shot to point of aim.  I wouldn't dump a Glock 19 for one though.
  22. Sure like this Dolomite Supafly produced heavy barrel Savage I have.  I will probably take it out again tomorrow and see if I can shoot some groups using Tula ammo.  I like this rifle because of minimal recoil and comparatively cheap ammo.  But even cheap 7.62x39 ammo is more than double what the price I pay for .22 ammo.   I was just wondering what people's impression might be of the Serb rifle just in case I thought I needed a SHTF rifle that doesn't weigh nearly 11 pounds.  The only two centerfire rifles I have are the heavy Savage and a single shot .22 Hornet.  I should have hung on to the two SKS Paratroopers or the VZ58 I used to have.
  23. I have shot other calibers in CZ 527s and I think they are great rifles, but I am more interested in the less expensive Serb made Zastava shooting steel cased ammo.
  24. If you have one can you comment on how it shoots steel cased ammo?   I came into possession of one of Dolomite's heavy barrelled Savage builds in 7.62x39.  It shoots 124grn Tula JHPs pretty darn accurate.  I was wondering how one of the light weight Zastavas shoots cheap ammo.   http://www.jgsales.com/zastava-m85-7.62x39-bolt-action-mini-mauser-rifle,-cai-yugo-import.-new.-p-6939.html
  25. Kidd or Brimstone, why fool around with 2nd tier triggers?
