How in the heck can you make a reliable, sturdy, durable, reasonably accurate AR that weighs less than 5lbs with a nitrided barrel and bolt for less than.....? Yeah, it has to be nitrided.

The Keltec 32 is 6.6oz unloaded and thin as my cell phone and works. It is just too easy to drop into the pocket with a Desantis pocket holster. A friend of mine, a WWII Marine who is still alive and I have shot just about every type of .380 and .32 made out of several different pistols. Not scientifically but into catalogs, wet newspaper etc. What we figured is that it is best to use ball ammo in those two calibers, cause expansion worth anything isn't really happening and penetration isn't impressive. Just for grins we shot a 9mm Corbon +P when we were doing this and we were thunderstruck at what the Cor Bon did in comparison. However, being pragmatic and delusional, I figure 7 x .32ACP FMJs would be an unpleasant experience for the target and I can dump all 7 in a dinner plate at 5 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger, left or right handed one-handed, lying on my side or back. I can also do that with my own "uglified" Glock 19 which allows me a very useful "grab and go" grip one-handed either hand. If I were going to an orderly range just to shoot Modified Weaver strong hand two-hand I would have kept the Sig X-Five Tactical I had a few years ago. That was a pleasure to shoot but too darn big for anything but a range toy. I have two nice .22 pistols that satisfy any two-handed range shooting these days.

There are only two companies worth buying from these days and that is S&W & Ruger. I wouldn't buy a Taurus with your money and would only buy a new Charter if I couldn't find a used S&W or Ruger. I suppose if Granny needed a revolver I would spring for a Rock Island cause they work and they are cheap, but would look for used a S&W or Ruger.

A friend in OK sent me his old walnut finger groove 10/22 stock that had fallen off the wall hooks. Dented and cracked on both sides of the wrist through the receiver section. After steaming and ironing 95+% of the dents out and sanding the hairs off caused by ironing I slightly pried the cracks apart. You can do this one handed if you have some wooden dowels inserted into holes on your bench to slide the stock into and then using one hand pry the stock apart. I would try this even if the crack is only on one side just to make sure it wasn't clear through. But if on one side maybe this will help get the crack opened up a little to let the glue run into it. I thought at first the stock's crack was only on one side, but was on both. I got some good wood glue and thinned it out with water. Using a needle applicator I let the glue run down and into the cracks as far as I dared pry them apart. I wiped up any seeping glue with a damp cloth. Wrapped the receiver in saran wrap and took cut strips of bicycle inner tube and tied that thing up and left it for a week. How long is long enough for the glue? I don't know but was not in a hurry. Now I have sealed the stock and will begin the Tru Oil treatment today.

Scored another Jennnings J-22! Whooo Hooo! I hate to say it - I really like these particular cheap little pistols in this caliber only. If you see another one in the Clarksville area let me know. I would get a Jimenez JA-22 if I could find one just for comparison, but I would not drive out of town for one. I'm going to keep this one. Every time I get one of these I tune the little suckers up and someone talks me out of them.

Vapor trail is all I got.

I called the two I had The Little Dragons, they are rough to shoot one-handed fast. Even worse is the DB9.

When Glocks were real Glocks, made of steel, not plastic! I sort of wish I had that one back for a day.

I've shot a friend's CZ 527 in .22 for quite a few shots using his hot handloads. Very nice shooting rifle with the right loads in that caliber.
-
I think the Ruger 77 can still be had in .22 Hornet, as well as the CZ 527 and I think Cooper makes one. Just for grins I have an older single shot H&R in .22 Hornet and when that thing ejects a round it slings them about 20' behind you. Just off the top of your collective heads who else makes current "mass" production rifles in .22 Hornet.

When to start transitioning to higher caliber from 22lr
graycrait replied to bigalbaldwin's topic in Handguns
If you can shoot the .22 left and right handed, one-handed and two-handed either side, kneeling, lying on your side, on your back and in prone, both eyes open then get something bigger. The thing I have seen most - is folks buy a gun in a caliber that they can't shoot enough to build muscle memory, but talk off the range like they are some sort of serious shooter. The next mistake is thinking a two-handed strong side hold in a classic stance like a Modified Weaver is the way to being a pistolero. I used to tell folks to get 10-20K of .22 and shoot it to build good basics then get a 9mm and shoot it a lot (9mm being comparatively cheap). If you can, take some lessons from a pro. I also advocate doing other physical things that carry over to shooting. Shooting basketballs, wrestling, other martial arts, tennis, softball, archery table tennis, racquetball, just about anything that requires balance, movement and eye-hand coordination. Having said that I do personally know a wheelchair shooter and a really fat deputy sheriff both here in TN, that if you are on the wrong end of their pistols you are going to be dead. Never underestimate anyone. That 14 year old with a Raven .25 is probably more likely to kill you than some pro shooter with a .45ACP Les Baer. -
After taking a combat handgun course for snubbies the instructor asked me, "Craig, what do you think?" I told him, "As much as I like revolvers I am going to sell my two snubbies and stick with a Glock for self defense." If you need more than 5 shots you need to practice and practice and practice. Drop a 15 rd mag and reload another in Glock practical terms is so much faster than any revolver - Jerry Miculek excluded.

If I had to switch from Glock 19 at this time, after owning many many pistols, including as I said earlier, several M&Ps, and shooting the hell out most of them it would be the Sig X-Five Tactical. What was I thinking when I traded that thing for a mere Hbar AR?
-
I've owned multiple copies of both. Been to both armorer courses. If I could cram Glock guts in the M&P that would be ideal. Since I can't I only use Glock now. I just carve up my Glock frames to give me decent or better in my mind, ergonomics. I like the G19 size and weight.

I had the 1st Gen 22/45 Lite in that ugly gold anodized. It was fun with a suppressor so that it had a bit more forward weight. For a plinking gun that weighs next to nothing carrying in a holster in the field it is a nice .22LR.

If I had a stainless or any MKIII I would buy and install these parts. Why? Because you will enjoy shooting your MKIII or 22/45 all the more when it has as a great trigger and you eliminate the crazy mag disconnect safety. The bare minimums are in bold. You can save some money I suppose by going to other vendors or by using the black aluminum VQ trigger which saves you $7.00. But for about $75.00 you will be thunderstruck at how much better your trigger will be. Once these mods are made I can't think of any other .22lr handgun this side of the cost of a S&W 41 that is as pleasurable to shoot. That also includes the S&W Mdl 17s and Buckmarks I used to own. VQ extractor $11.95 can help with extraction http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC10EE%2FVC2EE&Category_Code=VC2 VQ stainless trigger $37.95 allows external pre and over travel adjustment http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2TT-ST&Category_Code=VC2 VQ Sear $26.95 works well with stock hammer to produce a nice clean break http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2TS&Category_Code=VC2 4 choices to replace the mag disconnect safety which lowers the pull weight once it is disgarded and replaced. Also eliminates a step or two in assembly and reassembly, plus the mags will fall freely. TK replacement bushing for the MKIII mag disconnect apparatus $9.95 http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=TK-MKIIIBUSHING&Category_Code=VC2 or use the original Bam Bushing: http://bushing.webs.com/ $15.00 or you can simply use a a Ruger OEM MKII bushing to replace the MKIII mag disconnect apparatus $7.95 http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=VC2HB&Category_Code=VC2 or a Majestic Arms 3.2 Bushing to replace the MKIII mag disconnect apparatus $14.95 http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSC&Product_Code=MA32B&Category_Code=VC2

Depends on whether you view your Glock as a tool or a work of art. I contend that due to Glock's utilitarian design there is no such thing as a collectable Glock, so I look at all Glocks as simply another tool. I've had quite a few Glocks. If it were mine I would just grind off the finger "humps", probably radius the edges where trigger guard meets the grip and if concerned about the looks would possibly stipple the front of the grip where I ground off the humps. I suppose it does void the warranty and makes your $500.00 Glock into a $200.00 Glock. But it will feel better, point better for most and still be a reliable shooter. This is a case for making the tool conform to the user, not the other way around. I like the Glock frame design because it lends itself to mods without harming function. In my experience putting a sleeve on a Gen 3 Glock just aggravates the situation if the humps don't feel right stock.

For the vast majority of people the G43 IS NOT a pocket gun. I second the above comment. If you are 6'8" and 400lbs and always wear coveralls then pocket carry of a 43 is no issue.

can you pop the rear slide plate off the slide and get the gun apart by doing that? I seem to remember having to resort to that once or twice some years back when getting Glock slide on "half way"

Tim, It is nice that a real expert like you takes the time to give us kitchen table armorers a hand. V/R, Craig

Cutting a Plastic/Synthetic Stock
graycrait replied to shotgunshooter's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you are trying to impress a gunsmith from Purdy then you may want to rethink this. I have cut plastic stocks and grips a number of times. It ain't rocket science. Tape, hack saw, dremel what have you. Belt sander of some sort is nice to smooth edges fast but hand tools work great too. If it is to make your gun a better tool and you don't really care about looks it is simple. If you need to mount a butt pad and you don't have screw points then that is what they make black Devcon 290 for. -
Never mind it would likely have to headspace on the case mouth and then there is extraction. Still - I wouldn't mind having a single shot .32ACP rifle.
