fugitives, convicted stalkers and drug dealers I don't recall TN allowing these sorts of folks being allowed to get or hold handgun carry permit. Are they? It will be interesting to see if any of the states VA no longer recognizes review and change their HCP laws. If they do it will be a real feather in the VA AG's political cap, "tail wagging the dog." I'm guessing the VA AG is jockeying for a job in the "Clinton" administration.

A friend of mine called me to tell me about the woes of his 42, which was locked up tighter than .... Anyway I drive out to his place to take a look. I was just able to get the back plate off and separate the slide from the frame. But it took me 20 minutes to get the barrel out of the slide even after I had the striker out. Unfortunately it had a live round in it. When I finally got it apart and the round out the steel cased round had a primer that was sticking out too far and it appeared that the case was swollen near the rear. I reassembled the 42 and went about my way. Later that day he called and said it shot great until..... Then he sent a pic of the AE brass FMJ round that had a split case. I got the feeling that the chamber was "off." Anyway, it went back to Glock earlier this week.

If I were going to pay the kind of money they think the GP100 .22lr is worth just because I wanted a well-made .22lr DA revolver I would just find a decent shape early S&W 17. The only SP or GPs that had decent triggers are the ones I worked on at my kitchen table.Having done a few I would never put a Ruger DA revolver up against a S&W on the target range. If I was carrying a revolver in the woods for weeks at a time I would go Ruger.

I thought it was "Drunken Monkeys."

Once you get the gun broke in and if you want to upgrade its performance you can install these parts all at once or one at a time as you can afford it. I would do the first three together and you will be "wowed." Dolomite, that was a great story. The last one I carried in the mid 80's had to be wrapped in an oily rag or else it would turn orange due to humidity and it rattled like a castanet. If you could choose your own or else could get them at pre-ban Norinco 1911 prices...

Sig Mosquito has a terrible double action trigger and there is little you can do about it. The Mosquito, at best, is a soda can plinker that can prove to be very picky ammo wise. The only guy I know who knows how to get the Mosquito trigger decent is some dude known as Mississippi Dave on rimfirecentral.com. I have worked on 2 Mosquitos just for the education and I will never do that again. It is a clamshell design and whoever sold Sig that bill of goods sure pulled the wool over a company that typically produces true Tier 1 guns. I wouldn't buy a Mosquito with other peoples' money, I consider it that bad. The Ruger MK series has been out since 1949 with relatively minor changes over the decades. The MK series is a Tier 1 pistol that when you replace the sear, trigger and extractor and install an ergonomic grip and maybe kiss the crown will give you a pistol that can win you matches against pistols costing 3 times as much or don't replace those parts and run about a million rounds through that pistol. The Sig Mosquito is not in the same class as the Ruger. Now are there have been good Sig .22s? Sure, the Hammerli made Trailside, which I used to own, was so underrated that it is now sold for 2.5x it sold for as the Sig Trailside, now as the Hammerli Xesse. The GSG made, Sig 1911, is a nice beer can plinker. I had a Sig 220 Single Action Target Elite in .22lr and it was an OK pistol. But if you want to spend your hard earned money on a Mosquito....

The only Springfield 1911 that I have seen that needed to go back to the factory twice and still didn't work when it came back the second time was one of those 3.5" SAs they used to make. If you are running a 1911 less than 4.25" or maybe a 4" then you deserve any issues that you are getting. I have only owned 15 1911s, some parts guns, some pretty nice like DW. The only one I have now is a range toy, SA Loaded.

Anyone talked to a FBI pistolero about this stuff? Bottom line I am getting is 9mm is a decent handgun round if type is well chosen and yet it is still just a handgun round, easily trumped by rifle and shotgun. Ergo practice a lot with the triumvirate. As to this link: http://www.bluesheepdog.com/2015/10/19/f-b-i-selects-new-duty-pistol/ I got this phrase from the best shooter I have ever met, who now works for the FBI: "pure b.s." Of course this guy only carries a Glock as a backup weapon to his uber expensive duty 1911s. He says he needs a couple of these high dollar 1911s because one is always broke and in the FBI shop because they just don't hold up to the amount of training fire required for the job.

All the usual online sources is where I get ammo. Of course we don't shoot "spray and pray" style. Once in a while we might have a crazy 10 rd mag to strafe some haplass soda crackers but normally we don't shoot like that. I've seen no shortage of SK, Wolf, RWS and the other usual premium brands. I have so little 3-6 cent ammo it is almost funny, almost. I went to a little store here in Clarksville yesterday and picked up 40 grn CCI Quiet (710FPS), 29 CCI CB Long (710fps), 29 grain CB Short (710fps), Aguila 60 grain SSS, 45 grain AE suppressor at 950fps and some kind of slow moving Winchester CB Match just in case critters stage another night raid on my neighbor's chickens. For the most part the prices were better than anything I have seen online for these hard to find types of .22. I have a single shot as well as some custom 10/22 mags that allow me to use my 10/22s like a bolt action rifle to shoot these low powered .22s.

Fellow TGOr Plinker4life and I did some trading of 10/22 parts and pieces. This is what came out of it for me. Green stock 10/22 is Boyd's stock, R/T bedding, Que Bolt, Kidd trigger kit, McGowan threaded .920 taper to .750 SS barrel, Japanese Tasco 8-32x44 Fine crosshair w/Tgt Dot. Blondie is bedded stock refinished by TGOr Plinker4life, Que bolt, Plinker4life trigger, Green Mountain Running Boar barrel, 2-7x33 Redfield Duplex with parallax reset to 50 yards.

Need a longer thread protector
graycrait replied to graycrait's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Never mind, I forgot, an AR15 crush washer should fix this. -
I got this barrel from a friend of mine and I need a longer thread protector. 1/2x28. The one that is on (pictured) measured .500" and when I measure the length of the threads I get .600. I can't find any thread protectors that are .600+. I would like one a bit longer than .600 to protect the crown. I would just get a muzzle break but I don't read anything good about them and accuracy on a 10/22. Ideas or sources of longer thread protectors?

I had fun shooting one of those at the Viola Valley Shooting Range a few years back. One of the former regulars had one with his "special" loads and said "Craig shoot my gun why don't you?" I said sure, knowing this was a set-up. I told those boys to move back because I was going to show them how double action shooting was supposed to be done. I did want to see how fast I could get back on target with that beast. In my estimation quick follow-ups are not the 454 Alaskan's forte - but then that was me shooting. I really like that gun and enjoyed shooting it.

Glock Gen 4 Conversion recoil insert
graycrait replied to tercel89's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have used it, it works fine. -
Thanks folks. The price I am paying for the gun and ammo is fair to both parties and allows me to have this for a while to satisfy my curiosity and then trade or sell it later without too much buyer's remorse. I like to try out nicely crafted firearm handgun machinery just for the fun of it if I can afford it.

A friend wanted to sell this so I picked it up. I have wanted one of these for a long while. I'm not sure about having one in .45LC/.410 but I'll give it a whirl. Anyone have one and what calibers & barrel lengths do you like?

I would go with the BHP clone.

Way cool revolver. DW allegedly had quicker lock times than other popular DA revolvers making them a favorite of silhouette shooters back in the day. EWK Arms makes parts for this model but I have a sneaking suspicion he may be making parts for CZ too. I didn't see any shrouds on his website. When you disassemble this revolver it doesn't look like a S&W at all in its action. You might want to take this revolver to the hundred yard line and ring some gongs. Very pleasant shooting revolver.

Decorative engraving a Glock frame
graycrait replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
What about starting out with one of those aluminum glock frames? Lonewolf? CCF used to make aluminum and steel Glock frames. I had the stainless one once. You think a 1911 is heavy. That CCF with a G34 upper was a monster. Only to be outweighed, by a lot, by this "masterpiece" -
Decorative engraving a Glock frame

That guy spent a lot of time on engraving a piece of plastic, but regardless, the engraver appears to have serious skills. I wonder how well the engraver does steel? -
Just look at Trump or PT Barnum. "There is no such thing as bad publicity." However that phrase doesn't quite jive with what I learned in the Army's PSYOP school. In any case BigK nailed this one. Contextually, culturally and geographically - Christian discount probably wins the day for the store owner on several fronts including the till.

I attempt to stay away from zealots of any stripe, crazy people and drug addicts. These classes of folks tend to be unpredictable which means they are dangerous.
