Wish me luck, yet another health issue
MikePapa1 replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Get well, there's nothing worse than issues in the nether regions. -
I'm sorry I had a typo in my earlier post. The unit to which I referred was the 46th TN. Here's their website: http://46thtn.homestead.com/

Most units dress both as Union and Confederate. I can strongly recommend the 44th TN Inf out of Lebanon, though I'm not currently a member. I have both Union and Confederate ancestors (31st Indiana and 4th Texas).

New multi shot hybrid in 9mm and 45acp
MikePapa1 replied to subsonic's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Interesting concept. -
I'm not a Glock guy so it didn't mean much to me one way or the other, but I thought Glock folks might find it interesting.

I, too, am reluctant to suggest that a trial is warranted. I have no problem with a Grand Jury inquiry, as I think that's completely in order. Frankly, it would be difficult for Mr. Zimmerman to get a fair trial.

I'm waiting for the 938. The 290 is basically a baby 250. I've got a 250 2Sum in 9mm. I like it, but prefer the more traditional SIG DA/SA as opposed to the 250's DAO. Nothing wrong with the DAO, it's just not my preference. I've never had anything to complain about with my 250.

I clean my carry about once a month. I get a lot of lint around the exterior of the firing pin where the hammer strikes it. I've checked though it didn't affect functioning.

Don't think this is how the "stand your ground law" works
MikePapa1 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The media uproar here is getting out of hand. The facts, mostly, will come out. It's pretty clear though that Mr. Zimmerman sought a confrontation because he didn't want a black kid in a hoodie in his neighborhood. Whether Martin was a good boy, a bad boy or just a boy, there is no evidence of which I am aware that he was doing anything wrong up to the time Zimmerman confronted him. From a legal standpoint, this is a real problem. It has nothing to do with standing your ground or anything else. Clearly Zimmerman exercised decidedly poor judgment which ought to be a lesson to us all, regardless of whether he ultimately committed a crime or not. -

As I said, Mike, as I see it now. I always try to let the courts sort these things out. Be that as it may, I'm surprised that Mr. Zimmerman hasn't been arrested. There's certainly probable cause. Under any circumstances, Mr. Zimmerman wasn't "standing his ground," he pursued this teenager after having been told be the dispatcher not to do so. Clearly, under any circumstances he was the aggressor. -

There are several 911 tapes. I heard one from a witness who said the youth was yelling for Mr. Zimmerman to "stop" and yelling "help." Then in the background you hear a gunshot. Then the witness says something to the effect of "Oh my God he's killed him." In my view, based upon what I know, this has absolutely nothing to do with standing your ground. This has to do with a would be vigilante gunning down an unarmed teen holding nothing more than a bag of skittles and a drink. I heard a bit a go that it's going to the Grand Jury, we'll see what they make of it. As I see it now it looks very much like a murder. -
As I sit in my office I have my carry gun, a SIG P220, in the drawer is a XD9, on the desktop is a 4 inch pocket knife I use as a letter opener and a brass ruler.

The amount of energy transfer may not have any impact on driving bullets through bodies but it does have to do with the amount of trauma imposed on the one struck. I'm certainly no expert and I don't want to be shot by any handgun round but I've become convinced that my chances of survival even if struck center mass would be less from a .45 than a 9mm. As a long time 9mm guy, this was not an easy revelation for me. It's why I went from carrying my SIG P226 with the P220. Reasonable people may differ, but that's my opinion.

I'm glad to see the opinions here. I'm ambivalent about the "benefits" of any national legislation. While I'd welcome a uniform standard I can't help but think the feds will one, screw it up and two, once their nose is under the tent allege federal preemption in an attempt to undermine state protections. As a result, I think I come down opposed to any federal legislation in this area. Gun advocates would be better served to try the Uniform Statute method of standardization of carry issues.

Nice job.

American Rifleman last night had a demonstration that convinced me. At Gunsite, they had two shooters at a metal falling target at about 20 yards. The one with the 9mm hit it center mass but it didn't fall. The one shooting the .45 hit it center mass and it did. That told me all I needed to know about energy transfer.

Police Given Direct Line To Cell Phone Searches
MikePapa1 replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The exigency argument in this case is, I think, misplaced. If the phone is in the possession of the police and the defendant is in custody, then there is no reasonable basis for not seeking a warrant.
