  1. Well, technically, he did get it back, but the agreement they worked out was that they would dismiss the charges, saving him further grief, expense and time, in exchange for proving that he had, in fact, sold the gun. He produced a sales slip from a gun store showing he'd sold it so the case was dismissed.
  2. He was charged with possession of a Prohibited Weapon under §39-17-1302. The case was dismissed so there is no ruling. The DA told me that the regional director of the ATF was prepared to come and testify on behalf of the defendant that the weapon was, in fact, a handgun. The DA also told me he was happy with the resolution of the case because this dangerous weapon was no longer in Sumner County. The DA in question has his HCP and is an NRA member so he's not anti-gun, but the defendant was the driver of a vehicle that had 3 passengers, all convicted felons with gang connections, so despite his HCP was arrested for this "prohibited weapon." My recollection is that the arrest was made by Hendersonville PD, but I honestly am not sure. I'll look it up if you'd like.
  3. Interestingly enough, today I got an e-mail from Zahal with a new leather tuckable holster for the Sig Pro and the 250. I ordered one for both. Here's the link: Shop Sig Saur holsters accessories, Sig-Pro/P220/P225/P226/P228/P229/P230/P239/SP2009/SP2022
  4. I saw an American Tactical 1911 at Sumner Gun and Supply for $417. Anyone have an opinion on this one as an entry level 1911?
  5. I had not actually worn mine yet as I didn't have a holster. Frankly, I was having trouble finding one that fit the 2022 and was reasonably priced as I don't think it will replace my 220 as EDC but I don't like having a pistol but no holster. I looked around the net and saw somewhere that the 2022 fit in a XD Cross Breed Supertuck. Luckily, I just happened to have an XD, thanks to Bronker here, and I had purchased a Supertuck for it from D&T Arms when they were having a sale. I tried it out and, yes, it fits perfectly. I will try it out as a carry gun for a few days and tell you what I think.
  6. Let me update you on the Sumner County case. It was resolved on Thursday. The state dismissed the case on the sale of the gun. The defendant's attorney tendered to the court a bill of sale to a gun store in Nashville, if I remember correctly, it was the East Side Gun Shop, and the state dismissed the charge. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with such cases.
  7. I hate ticks. Already had my first one out messing with the horses. Have I mentioned that I hate them?
  8. A week ago I bought a new, almost, Sig 220 to replace the one sold to SteelHarp's son. I got it from a guy on Gunbroker and it was advertised as having 40 rounds through it. When I got it I was very happy with it as it looked brand new. I took it to the Gallatin Gun club for my favorite trial, the steel plates. I normally shoot a 226 so it took me a couple of magazines to get used to the additional recoil of the white box 230 grain FMJ but after that I was able to shoot it every bit as well as I do the 226. It's trigger isn't as smooth as SteelHarp's but it was factory and very good nonetheless. Overall, I can tell this 220 shoots far better than I can. It's definitely a keeper. I also took my brand new, as in bought today from G&L in H'ville, Sig Pro SP2022 in 9mm. I'm a big DA/SA fan and so I really like the classic Sigs for that reason. I ran about 200 rounds of 115 grain white box to see how it functioned. I'm not particularly a plastic pistol fan, but I have no qualms about heartily recommending the 2022 to anyone. It functioned flawlessly directly out of the box, I mean that quite literally. It was as accurate as both the 226 and the 220. It took out the steel plates just like it's name, Sig Pro. For the price, $464 including tax and instant check, if your interested in a brand new Sig in the classic DA/SA configuration at a very affordable price, this is the gun for you. I don't this it will ever replace the 220 for EDC, its relatively lightweight make it an excellent choice for carry.
  9. There's no reason it should shutdown. It is simply access to a computer database that should not require even essential personnel, let alone non-essential personnel. I keep wondering why we're employing non-essential personnel in the first place. Be that as it may, I made the purchase of the Sig 2022 from G&L in H'ville today just in case.
  10. I rarely carry more than two myself.
  11. I did it through the joy of Google. I set up Google to send me an email each day for news dealing with guns. Being a Tom Selleck fan, I saw the article and couldn't resist sharing it. Are you trying to tell me you're not a Perez Hilton fan?
  12. Tom Selleck LOSES IT On Extra For Pointing A Prop Gun At People On Set Filed under: TV News > Wacky, Tacky & True Note to future extras on TV show Blue Bloods: Do not piss off Tom Selleck! The notoriously nice actor, who is a board member of the National Rifle Association, lost his shizz at an extra on set when the man picked up a REAL gun and started pointing it at people. According to sources, Selleck yelled: “Hey, YOU! What the HELL are you doing? That gun’s NOT a toy — stop waving it around! Look at you…your finger’s STILL ON THE TRIGGER!†The frightened extra, who was playing an onscreen cop in a scene, then squeaked out, "Is the gun really loaded?" 13. Why We Must Ban High-Capacity Gun Magazines Posted: 04/ 6/11 01:59 PM ET React Tucson Shooting , Arms Control , Brady Campaign , Gun Laws , Gun Violence , Guns , Handguns , High Capacity Clip , High-Capacity Ammunition Magazines , James Brady , Politics News s We were honored last week to join James and Sarah Brady as they marked the 30th anniversary of a tragic moment in history - the shooting of President Reagan. James Brady, who took one of the bullets meant for the president, has since dedicated his life to preventing gun violence. It was in his name that Congress came together to pass the Brady law to require a background check for gun purchases. It is time for Congress to come together once again to eliminate senseless violence and save lives. We're determined to ban high-capacity gun magazines like the one Jared Lee Loughner allegedly used in Tucson, Arizona, when he was able to fire 31 bullets in 15 seconds because he supersized his Glock 19 handgun with a high-capacity magazine. Loughner's massacre ended only when he stopped to reload and bystanders wrestled him to the ground. If he had used a standard magazine and was forced to reload earlier, some of his victims might have been spared. High-capacity magazines -- devices that dramatically boost a weapon's firing power -- were prohibited from 1994 until 2004, when the federal assault weapons ban was in place. Since its lapse, high-capacity magazines have become easily accessible, turning up on shelves in gun shops and even some sporting goods stores. The rest is here: Sen. Frank Lautenberg: Why We Must Ban High-Capacity Gun Magazines Frankly, I'm not sure who is the most stupid: Lautenberg or McCarthy. Looks like a toss up to me.
  14. If you're interested in a compact with SA/DA you might consider the P239. You might be able to pick one up used for a bit more than $400. Even used SA/DA Sigs run for $550 or so. They are, however, a good investment. If your looking for a plastic Sig that a bit bigger than compact you might look for the Sig Pro 2022. It's SA/DA and can be found new in the $430 range. G&L in Hendersonville has them at about that price. As long as you like the trigger on the 250, you'll love it. I got used to the trigger. It's a long pull but very smooth and with a clean break. I normally keep mine in the Sub configuration and carry it when the 220 that's my EDC is a bit too difficult to conceal but I don't want to go as small as the 238. I have a High Noon IWB tuckable and even in the most casual clothes it conceals very well. Despite its small size, it still will carry 12+1 +P+ Federals.
  15. I have a 250 2Sum, which includes a subcompact and a full size pistol sharing the same trigger module. I'm a big Sig fan having had a 226 since the early 90's and more recently the 238, 220, 250 and Mosquito. I prefer the DA/SA (Double Action/Single Action) of the classic Sigs as opposed to the DAO (Double Action Only) of the 250. That being said, the 250 is a great shooter and a great value. If you like the trigger on revolvers then the DAO of the 250 will feel very natural. It took me a bit of getting used to, but I like it. I've not tried the other pistols mentioned so I can't comment on them. My advice is that you find the pistols you are interested in and handle them to see which fit your hand the best. If you can test shoot them, all the better. The pistol you are most comfortable with is the right one.

  17. My story is similar to what J Reed related. I've practiced law since 1983, doing basically a general practice which involved divorce work. In 1988, I was doing a divorce representing a wife for whom I got custody of their three sons. The husband was an ex-cop, having been fired for repeated abuse complaints, who decided that I was tearing apart his family and who made some threats. He was stopped by the police about a block form my house with a .357 and a 12 gauge. He was arrested, based upon his threats to me, for which he also blamed me. Through the police, they expedited my permit, this is allowed in Indiana, and I got a permit within a week. I also worked as a public defender in one of the courts and the Judge convinced the sheriff to put me through their weapons training and semiannual qualifications which allowed me to carry everywhere, even in court. I still carry everywhere I can. Based upon an informal survey I've conducted, about 40% of the male lawyers here and about 20% of the female lawyers carry at least part of the time.

  21. Washington, DC Tuesday, February 22, 2011 Video Clip: "Congress should enact national CCW reciprocity and soon," gun rights expert John M. Snyder said here today. "A proposal by Reps. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and Heath Shuler (D-NC) would provide a national standard with which nonresidents of a state may carry concealed firearms in the state," he added. "Congress should give favorable consideration to the bill, H.R. 822, now in the House Judiciary Committee. "It's about time for Congress to close the national personal self-defense loophole. Congress should enact national reciprocity for citizens issued permits to carry concealed firearms by individual states." Snyder is Public Affairs Director of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. He is a former National Rifle Association editor. "An individual who has a state-issued permit to carry a concealed firearm ought to be able to carry in any state in the same way an individual with a driver's license can drive anywhere in the United States," Snyder said. "Such a law would be of societal as well as personal benefit," he said. "As John R. Lott, Jr. has pointed out in his study More Guns Less Crime, rates of violent crime drop precipitously in jurisdictions adopting ccw laws. "The states recognize this. Eighty percent of them have such laws on the books. Members of Congress know this. Several have indicated the personal possibility of utilizing the benefits of ccw laws. In addition to Shuler, these include Reps. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, Steve Cohen of Tennessee, Morgan Griffith of Virginia, Allen West of Florida, and Renee Ellmers of North Carolina." Snyder said "gun-grabbing politicians and media extremists try to manipulate the criminal use of firearms by a few into a platform. They try to use this platform to generate public support for limits on the gun rights of all law-abiding citizens. They appear practically to salivate when an individual misuses a gun in a particularly heinous manner. They're bent on undermining the individual Second Amendment civil right of law-abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms. "The people aren't buying their junk. Polls show declining support for gun control laws and increasing support for the gun rights of all Americans. Legal purchases of guns and ammunition are at record levels. About 100 million Americans own about 200 million rifles, shotguns and handguns." Snyder said "what's missing is a law enabling citizens with state-issued ccw permits to carry guns throughout the United States. It's time to close this loophole in the right to self-defense."
