U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up In Arms
MikePapa1 replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They have to "reconcile" any conflicts between co-equal laws. My guess is that by the time this is ratified, if ever, that those who are pushing it believe they'll also control the Supreme Court. -
U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up In Arms
MikePapa1 replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That's the genius of this approach, Dolomite. The Constitution itself says that it and treaties are the supreme law of the land. Then discrepancies between the two will have to be worked out by the Courts. -
Haslam signs law restricting Internet pictures

Haslam signs law restricting Internet pictures | Nashville Business Journal Interesting statute. I agree fully with the analysis in the last sentence. -
Having only had a brief acquaintance here with the original poster, I found him, well, disturbed. He seems to have confirmed that impression.

My prayers are with him and his family.

I normally like all of Calvin Coolidge's quotations but I decided to post one from his Democratic opponent because I think it reflects my philosophy of government encapsulated: "The chief aim of all government is to preserve the freedom of the citizen. His control over his person, his property, his movements, his business, his desires should be restrained only so far as the public welfare imperatively demands. The world is in more danger of being governed too much than too little. It is the teaching of all history that liberty can only be preserved in small areas. Local self-government is, therefore, indispensable to liberty. A centralized and distant bureaucracy is the worst of all tyranny. Taxation can justly be levied for no purpose other than to provide revenue for the support of the government. To tax one person, class or section to provide revenue for the benefit of another is none the less robbery because done under the form of law and called taxation." John W. Davis, Democratic Presidential Candidate, 1924. Davis was one of the greatest trial and appellate lawyers in US history. He also served as the US Ambassador to the UK.

TVA temporarily closing the Gallatin Gun Club range

I got the email and hate to see this as I mainly go during the week. -
While Grant issued General Order No. 11 which decreed as follows: The Jews, as a class violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department and also department orders, are hereby expelled from the Department [of the Tennessee] within twenty-four hours from the receipt of this order. Post commanders will see to it that all of this class of people be furnished passes and required to leave, and any one returning after such notification will be arrested and held in confinement until an opportunity occurs of sending them out as prisoners, unless furnished with permit from headquarters. No passes will be given these people to visit headquarters for the purpose of making personal application of trade permits. While later rescinded by Lincoln's Order, it's amazing how a racist society like the South was reputed to be could accept Jews while the open, compassionate and caring society like the North could harbor such blatant Antisemitism.

Jose Guerena Shot 60 times by Swat in his Home

I agree. We've lost all common sense. -
Being born and raised in Indy, May is the only time I really miss it. I'd be out at the Speedway every day after school and never missed Pole Day or the race. After I got out of law school one of the secretaries that worked with me in my first firm was married to Jerry Sneva so I was in the garages all the time and met the greats. Only thing I really miss being here.

Well, never one willing to leave doubt when it can be avoided, I called Sturm Ruger Customer Service and asked them. They assure me that all Mini14s except the target model will safely fire .223 or 5.56. I sent an order to Cheaper than Dirt for the 5.56.

You're a star to me, Mike.

It does take some getting used to, especially for me as I prefer the DA/SA trigger personally. I can, though, shot the 250 well after a bit of warm up.

Grunt's right. One of the main reasons I started carrying a gun 20 some years ago was because of a divorce case I had. You take a man's kids, pickup, and bass boat and some folks lose all perspective. I've carried ever since because of course, it's my fault his wife's leaving him. Never had an ounce of trouble with criminal clients or any of the assorted people who deal in that arena, but I still do divorces and child custody cases reluctantly and rarely.
