You did well...a natural a public speaking.

It seemed to be much less organized than before...the guy who took charge used the word militia a lot. It was cold enough that I wished I brought a rifle so I could go in the warm building with the cops. I took off work today, though...that was cool-first day I've missed in 3 years.

Agreed...I get the point of trying to look presentable but I'd rather have 2 or 3 thousand folks show up wearing whatever they want in support of liberty than otherwise. We could all be wearing formalwear and it's not gonna change anyone's opinion but solidarity has meaning to most folks. People just need to show up. Is there any effort being made for a TGO meet and greet this time?

This is the first I've heard of it...I'm in.

I've decided to order the jig...it's only a little more than it costs to send it to Adco and I'd rather do it myself, anyway.
-
Did it come from CMMG that way? I probably would not put a sling on the fsb...of course, you want to take it off so maybe put a sling on it.
-
Thanks, I sent him an email... If anyone has the tool/jig for drilling the barrel (I've seen one made by BRD), I'd be willing to rent it. I would just buy one but I'll never need it again. Thanks, -Dave

Whos going to the state capital on the 19th?
daveW replied to reed1285's topic in Events and Gatherings
Two posts up...next to last photo...I'm the tall guy just below the sign saying "Fear the govt...your guns". I'm wearing the black shirt, tan hat, beard, sunglasses. I'm proud to have made it to this event! I wish more would have been there. This is the patron state of shooting' stuff-we gotta set the bar! -
Personally, I would prefer the issue go away in the form of -lift the penalty for those legally and responsibly armed citizens who choose to exercise their right everywhere, including schools. I don't advocate for passing an exception for certain teachers who certain people think might be responsible enough to carry. I'm 37 years old...in any one of the last 21 of those years, I've fired more rounds safely, responsibly, and for the purpose of training, than your average LEO or .mil type. I don't think that makes me more capable of shooting a bad guy at a school. I do believe, however, that bad guys might go somewhere else if they feel like they will be stopped. Rid the country of gun free zones and part of the problem will be solved.

Im looking for a competent gunsmith who can drill a barrel allowing the install of a standard front sight base. I need someone within an hour of Nashville as I'd like to arrange a drop off/pickup kind of thing-otherwise I'd ship to Adco. Recommendations? Thanks, -Dave
Just let conservative teachers carry. There are some Libtard teachers I wouldn't want carrying in schools. Not all teachers are Libtard democrats.
I am proof of this...I teach high school and am definitely not a democrat. As a realist, however, I am surprised that the notion of arming teachers still gets talked about. I would vote for it, if given the chance but it seems soooo far fetched. The parking lot bill has my hopes up, though.

Whos going to the state capital on the 19th?
daveW replied to reed1285's topic in Events and Gatherings
I'm back and forth on the issue of concealed carrying at this event...wasn't a law passed after the Giffords incident making it illegal to have a firearm in the presence of elected officials? I just looked at the FB page and noticed that state reps are slated to speak at the event. But I don't recall the specifics... Oh, and I'll be the big dude holding a black sign simply saying "NO"...gotta keep it simple since my adversaries don't come across as being real bright. Say hi if you see me- it'd be cool to put a face with some of the screen names, here. -

I'm definitely gonna be there. -
I'll be there...if you're between Sumner and Nashville and need a ride, I've got room for 3 more. Any interest in a TGO meet and greet would be cool too!
Why do they always schedule this stuff for a day and time when a majority of people are working?
If a movement such as this were to actually develop into something real, a million+ people taking off work might help get some attention. But you are right, this might only demonstrate the unwillingness of people to sacrifice a little security to stand up for what they believe in. -Interesting times...we shall see. -
Check out the Razor: www.ruger1022receiver.com/ Build it yourself without the issues found in the Ruger. I have no experience but have read good reviews.
I was told that pre 1994 30 round magazines that can be documented as such are selling for $900-$1,000 each in NY and CT. Sad part is I had a few but I cut them up for use with my 300. I still have one from the late 70's to early 80's and if it has the date on it I might let it go. Dolomite
How does one document the age and where do I need to advertise?
-
That's the idea that needs to spread!

If you post it for sale-at whatever price and someone buys it, good for you. It's not like you drove the market to this horrid state of affairs. I posted a few lowers on Gunbroker knowing they would likely go for much more than I paid...and they have. The thing is- if I turn around and buy things I need-ammo, components..l gotta pay stupid prices too. Why exchange a lower for last months market price when I gotta pay today's market price on other things? Admittedly, I would feel guilty selling them here as I value this community.

These are all very good suggestions!

Good read...funny how things come about.
Anyone else have a bow in their bug in/bug out kits? And would an old fashioned recurve be a better candidate than a compound? Thanks guys
I never really thought about it as part of a bug out kit but I have a PSE Coyote. It is a recurve and I chose this model because it is easy to break down/make smaller so I suppose it would be a good candidate for your purposes. For me, it's just for fun and practice is required if I want to achieve any amount of accuracy. I also agree with the use of carbon arrows but I have considered making a wood arrow from scratch-again, just for fun.

With regards to keeping the length short, you should give the Sig 220 carry a look. It is not offered with a threaded barrel but they can be found.
If I do build another AR it will eat nothing but lightweight, superfast stuff. Like 85-110g loads. An 85g Tokarev bullet over a greedy charge could get close to 3K. Also, 110g V-max or Ballistic tips are particularly nasty too.
What would you change about the second build to facilitate super fast stuff? I assume you would use a different twist barrel?? I would like to hear more as I'm currently gathering parts for my second blk. -
If you are thinking about Blackthorne AR's, look inside
daveW replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
I don't understand how it's possible for the barrel to be wobbly like that. It's threaded into a barrel extension which fits (typically very tightly) into a threaded hole in the front of the reciever. Then, a nut is torqued onto the hole. It seems, the only way for it to wobble would be for that hole to be severely reamed or they installed a barrel blank sans extension in which case the barrel should just slip back out. I just don't know how they could eff that up??? But, the loctite was the clencher, for me. And yes, Hesse is to be avoided. I bought my first FAL from them in the mid 90's when it was featured in American Survival Guide. It had too many issues to mention but cases kept separating in the chamber. Being somewhat new to guns at the time, I didn't really know how to diagnose it so I called, sent it back, they looked at it, sent it back to me saying it was fixed...the first time I fired it it happened again only this time, it blew the top cover off in my face and the bolt/carrier jammed up in the rails so bad I couldn't budge it. (in retrospect, I'm glad it jammed instead of continuing rearward under those circumstances.) Frustrated, I visited a friend at a shop who took the handguards off and immediately observed that the barrel could be turned in the reciever by hand. I just don't know how one can stay in business like that.
