I've had both. The XDS is a great 45 that's both slim and very controllable. For size and ease of carry, the XDS wins. The 36 and I'll throw in the 30s are both great shooters, but not as small and easy to carry as the XDS.

+1 to a 10/22 that can be easily tricked out with a custom trigger, stock and barrel to whatever you like. I also recommend putting a threaded barrel on whatever you choose. A suppressor on a 22 is the cats meow. Too much fun. For a bolt action, Browning makes at bolt that is suppressor ready and it's pretty much ready to go with adjustable trigger, but it's not any more fun than the 10/22.

+1 for Vortex optics. They've been impressive on my rifle and some binos. I'm not saying they are Nightforce or Swarovski, but they are darn good for the price and lifetime warranty as well

Glock 26 for carry of any kind. Glock 34 for all else. Yes, I have no problem carrying 9mm. Especially when you get to carry so many in each mag. I've had a Shirld and XDs in 9mm, but still prefer a G26 Gen3.

To each his own.   I have bought and sold the Shield in 9mm. It was very nice, but not for me. I have bought and sold both the XD-S in 9mm and 45. The 45 is a GREAT .45 concealed carry package. Loved it, but 45 was not for me. In 9mm, I still prefer my Glock 26. Find what you like. I seem to always come back to my baby Glock.  If I need anything smaller, then I just throw an LCP in my pocket.   With all that said, the XD-S model is a good shooter and conceals well. I tried to like it more than my Glock, but just couldn't. Safe shooting!

I've owned both the Shield and XDs. The Shield went away, and I carry and love the XDs in 45. My wife, who is all of 105lbs has no problem controlling it. The recoil is very nice. As 9mm goes, I have a hard time beating my Glock 26. I'm sure the XDs in 9mm will be a great little gun though

I just wanted to weigh in on my most recent trip to the range.  I have a new XDs in .45ACP that I wanted to break in with a couple hundred rounds of ball ammo.  This is the most accurate compact pistol that I have. WOW!   It's not without it's share of recoil, but very controllable, even for quick follow up shots and a quick empty of the mag, all 5 shots were close.  After 200 rounds, I was a little sore in the web of my hand, but nothing too different from shooting a small 380 or small 9mm.   This is nothing against my 9mm's that I usually carry, the Shield M&P/Glock 26 are both easy to shoot also, but the accuracy of this little .45 is nice!  Did I say that it's small too?  Nothing like a full size 1911 or Sig P220, but this is a nice carry pistol if you don't mind 5+1 capacity.   Nice job Springfield.  If you're in the market for a small gun, try the XDs.  

I +1 to SlapChopDonkey for the Savage Hog Hunter in 308.  Looks like a winner at a decent price. If I had to buy new right now, I think Ruger has a winner in the All American - looks a lot like a Tikka, which is butter smooth.  If you're looking at a 223, then maybe the MVP???  I think that's the Mossberg rifle that accepts AR magazines.  Pretty slick.  I have thinned the herd down to my Browning A-Bolt in 308, and that's fine for both deer and coyotes. :)

I have 2 of the Gen3 Glocks, a G33 and G26. I'm sure the Gen4's are great with the new backstrap, but I just think it's something else to go wrong, or lose.  The one difference that might be worth a look is the newer spring design in the Gen4. Supposedly, they are a little softer on recoil due to a new spring design... I can't say, because I haven't shot one.  Otherwise, the Gen3 are very worth it!

I'll beat the same drum... For an all purpose and deer rifle, get the 308. Maybe a 223 if you plan on plinking/ target/varmint. However, your 22 and shotgun should be enough unless you're looking to hunt.

Over the years I've carried big 45's down to the LCP. My preferred caliber is the 9mm for good ballistics with minimum recoil, and higher capacity guns. However, most nines aren't pocket guns to me. I'm 5'7", 170# and my Glock 26 or S&W Shield aren't pocket guns. My Ruger LCP is a true pocket pistol. I'll give up the caliber when I have to for the convenient factor. I had a Keltec, and no ding to it. It functioned well, but I liked the finish of the Ruger. I've finally moved away from a j-frame since my wife liked the LCP much better, and I followed suite to share ammo, holsters and magazines. Unless your dead set on a revolver, an LCP is a good choice if you want a pocket gun. If you want something larger, I find my Shield or Glock easy to carry, and in the 9mm.

I think I'd buy a factory threaded barrel, sell that barrel for the cash... However, if you haven't bought a suppressor yet, you have 6+ months of waiting, while you decide. Threaded 10/22 barrels are easy to find.

I have one gun with a thumb safety. On the nightstand or off body, I put the safety on. If its in my holster, on my body, the the only safety is my trigger finger. My Glocks are my preferred carry. Only use the trigger finger safety.

Dealer on Sigforum had them for $10 with $5 total shipping last week. Got 5 for $55 shipped.

LMT is a good one. LWRC is another one, but pricey and top notch. I just ordered a Sig 516 which copied LWRC, but priced better.
