Also what do you do about iron sights? If anything I would probably just use irons for right now since I'm on a budget, or put a cheap 3x9 on it.

Damn! that is a great deal!!! I'm going to check out with our local store, I remember back when I was looking for my 300rum, I just asked for ****s and giggles of what they had in an ar platform and they said they had a couple in the 600-700 range. I cant remember the name, but I'm going to swing by there tomorrow.

So I've finally got my collection going with my big guns and a couple of hand guns for WWZ. I have now picked up a 10/22 that I'm looking to finish up in the next couple of weeks so I can have a really cheap plinker and also have something to easily carry 30k rounds, which I have for .22 lol. But I'm looking to take a bigger step up in something thats still a ton of fun to shoot and also is cheap on ammo, that will still get the job done for when the zombies come. What is a good budget setup. Right now I cant spend a whole lot of money since bills and also in nursing school. Doesn't need to have all the bells and whistles, just looking for something that is going to perform time and time again thats easy on the wallet. Once I finally have my RN, I def. want to step up and get a couple more and do one in a 5.45 and especially the .458. What can you guys recommend to me now?

I'm just going to go pick up the one from Walmart.. The price would basically make up the difference between me driving to Chattanooga or wherever in gas. Not to mention the Walmart is only 2 minutes from my house....literally lol.

Gunsmith near Cleveland / Chattanooga ?
IggyBcool replied to Wingshooter's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I've heard a few things about Gunslingers.. But before I purchased my 300rum, I called them and asked them if they had anything in a 300WM and got the reply "uhhhh I don't know......?" After that I just said thank you for your time and went to Sportman and got my RUM. -
Cruised by the Walmart here and they had a stainless 10/22 for 217. Is that a pretty good deal on the stainless version? Syn. stock, which doesn't matter because I'm going to put a different one on it.

Holy cow, I would love to luck out with one around that price! Even if it were in a blued version. I would also be willing to travel a little bit if there was one near.

Not going to say where, but we have a cabin in the mountains and its stock piled full of food, water, gas, propane, solar, back up generator. We have enough to probably last a solid couple of months. We also have acreage too with plentiful deer, bear, boar, and vegetation. I'm mainly focused on stocking up on .45 (have about 400 rounds) would like 1000, 12 slugs and 00 (have about 40 rounds of 00 and 15 of slug..would like about 200 of each. I have 300 rounds of 6 and 7 bird) would like another 3 or 4k rounds of .22 to make it around a solid 20k rounds. Have about 60 rounds of .243 don't think I'll buy too much more..maybe another box, going to buy another two or three boxes of 300RUM and reload the 40 brass I have now, and finally wanting to get another 100 or so of .357 mag. Really would like to get an AR or two.. But my fiance wont allow me to fund another project with both of us in school and minimally working. Hopefully we'll make it through another year without any major problems. Not to mention the stockpile of guns and ammo we have in the safes up there. It is way off the beaten road so if someone wonders back up our 1.5 mile drive way during the end of the world, they're gonna be zombie food.

Who around here has the best deals going on them and what is the price? I'm looking to pick up another one. Doesn't have to be SS or anything fancy because this one will be getting a work over too.
-
Anyone added anything else to the collection?
-
Wonder if this would stand up to my 300rum? Doubtful, I would like to get a decent scope like this till I can afford a Monarch or a Nighforce to put on it

We have 7 or 8 thousand acre on Bakewell mountain.. The only problem is the way that they've been clear cutting it. The deer don't have to move at all now that a lot of the places have been cut about 3 or 4 years ago so its so freaking thick they don't have to worry about anything getting after them. Also the lease next to ours, they didn't lease it out this year so there hasn't been any people hunting on it so I'm guessing that they've been hanigng out over there where theres no pressure. I cant believe this is the first year that I havent seen a single deer. Last year and the couple yaers before that, you would jump 10 up just on the way to the stand and you had your pick on what deer you wanted to shoot. Plus this damn weather didn't help at all.
-
So I think I have successfully ended my first ever hunting season without seeing a single deer. Eff!

NM found my answer

What scope is that?

I'd also be interested in seeing your recipes for some killer jerky.

Right now I'm settling on DNZ base and rings with an older Redfiled 3x9x40. In a couple of months I've picked out a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14
-
Has anyone heard of the DNZ one piece base and rings?
-
My friend just suggested a vortex pst. Going to look in to vortex too. I think I'm going to get a 4x12
-
I've checked out the 4200 and it seems like a pretty solid rig. I'm just still pretty torn between the 4 or 6x. The gun will mainly be used for hunting so I don't want to get something too powerful and not be able to see much at the close shots, but I still want to be able to have confidence when zooming out past 300 yards.
-
I'm def. looking in to a Leupold VX2 and the Fullfield II. Looking for something at least 4-12. I'd like to go with 6 but I'm afraid that would be over kill here hunting unless I was hunting a clear cut or something. Do you think a 6 would be too much? I do how ever go every year to Montgomery AL and go on this hunt and usually most shots the minimal length is going to be 250 yards. I just want something thats going to be very versital even with plinking.

Dolo, I actually used to live in Knoxville for school, what parts are you in? I'll actually be there this weekend visiting my old roommates..unfortunately, I found the culprit.. It was my base and rings. They were "snug" and before I started they were tight tight. Oh well guess I'm just going to put it in the safe and wait to tinker with it until I can afford to put a scope and a good base on it. No point in wasting more money slinging rounds through it. I did how ever find another problem thats bugging the absolute **** out of me. The scope thats on it and the base, is adjusted as far back as it comes and when I shoulder the rifle I'm having to actually move my head up about 4 inches. Will a different base resolve this problem or is this going to be an ongoing issue due to the ejection port length?
-
Just the cheapo Remington scope that came with the package. Which I'm sure explains it, but I figured that it would at least be a "decent" better than nothing kind of thing for time being. Guess not.
-
Thats actually one of the scopes that I've been looking in to. Academy has them for 160 right now I believe. My uncle just put one on his 300WM I believe and says he likes it but didn't know how well a lower priced scope would hold up.
