  1. Exactly. I knew that going in. I have no recomendation either way, but just FYI there is insurance for such an occasions. These are an addition to NRA membership. http://www.locktonrisk.com/nrains/epl.asp http://www.locktonrisk.com/nrains/selfdefense.asp http://www.locktonrisk.com/nrains/instructor.asp The last one is just for instructors it appears.
  2. Does anyone know of any cases of a shooter being sued? And/or it being ruled justified and the person who brought the suit having to pay the shooter's legal fees, etc... ? As has been said, they can sue you. But the law says if they loose they are supposed to pay your legal fees, any money lost from taking off from work and any other reasoanable expenses incurred by you in defense of the suit. This would be on top of their legal fees of course. I guess that I have relied on the above (in theory as I have not shot anyone) to keep most lawyers from taking a case unless they thought they had a almost air-tight case. I hope that if I ever do have to defend myself with leathal force there will be no question as to whether it was valid or not.
  3. LOL molonlabetn beat me to it I see....as I was previewing my post I saw his. As far as this being coverd in the class, it is up to the instructor. I will just say from what I've read, not much of the law is covered in the classes and lots of times when it is, it is not 100% accurate. At the end of the day, this is a "Safety" class required by the state, it is to show you can safely operate a firearm. It is not to qualify you with a weapon, educate in the law etc....
  4. Have a good trip!!
  5. My mother smoked unfiltered Pall Mall's for 20+ years. Quit cold turkey. She feels Cold Turkey is the only way to go.....
  6. Cool!! Wish I had some place I could go shooting on the spur of the moment. Live in the middle of town (even though it is very small) and no public ranges close. ....and good luck with the smoking!!
  7. Best wishes for a speedy recovery ZenDog.
  8. A lot of help after the fact aren't we?
  9. I hear ya....see my sig line...
  10. No date as of yet. Right now it is in the Criminal Practice & Procedure Sub-Committee of the House Judicary committe. I have e-mailed both the sub-committee chairman Rep. Janis Sontany and the sponosor of the bill Rep. Joe McCord asking when they thought it might come up, but no word from either. The calendar for each committee and sub-committee for the next week is decided on Friday, but usually not publised to the web until Monday. You can check the calendar for the Criminal Practice & Procedure Sub-Committee here
  11. I always check the laws of any state before I have carried there. Usually print out the list of off-limits places to keep with me. I wish some agency in TN would make up a nice little booklet like the on in your link though.
  12. The format on the website seems the same to me this year as years past. But it could be me just being too lazy to look for differences...lol
  13. LOL...I all ready have enough to pay on my birthday between DL (Commercial and Motorcycle) and my EMT license, both at the same time this last year. Don't need any more expenses in that same month...
  14. Ben West is a good guy! Glad he got back with you.
  15. Yep... handgunlaw.us is a good place to check. (Link in my sig) I have carried in both states with no problems. Just a note, both do not allow open carry at all, so wouldn't be a good idea to even accidently expose your weapon. You may find more about this in your research or from another member, but it seems like even printing in TX can get you into trouble.
  16. Thanks jimg. I admit, next time I go see my brother I'll be just a tad more self-conscious.
  17. Same way I did mine.
  18. I guess you are probably right Dave. I was more just wanting to say a city can't have a law that says you can only have X amount of rounds of ammunition on hand. Of course there are other ways around it. And thanks for the update on the other thing.
  19. Wonder what has become of this? http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=3145
  20. In TN no counties or cities can pass local laws when it comes to firearms or ammuntion. T.C.A. 39-17-1314
  21. Might check the BATFE's website.
  22. Is there a particular location or situation that makes you say this? I am member of several national forums and have talked with NC members and participated in their threads since I have a brother that lives in NC...none have reported problems in general around the state. I have carried while in NC with no problem, granted no one knew to my knowledge. Also I admit the list of off-limits places in NC is far greater than TN, but as long as you follow state law there shouldn't be any problem.
  23. Thanks Frank.
  24. So let me ask... I take it there is a minimum standard for the classroom and range part of the DOS approved safety class, but after that each instructor can pretty much freelance after that correct?
