  1. LOL...I know the feeling. Looking back you responded to the same post Mars did by saying Yes someone could buy a firearm for someone else. Then to Mars post saying No, not in TN you couldn't for a juvenile. Guess I just got confused....lol

  5. What Mars posted doesn't say you can buy a "handgun" for juveniles. It just say in general that "firearms" and ammunition can be given to juveniles. Then it even goes on to say that is generally unlawful for juveniles to "poses" handguns. In TN 39-17-1320 does say in general it is illegal for a parent, guardian or adult to "provide" (which would include purchase for I guess) a handgun to a juvenile. However 39-17-1319 provides many situation in which a juvenile can posses a handgun. Including on the property of the parents with the parents permission or on the property on any adult, with adults permission and the parents. So to me that means you let your 14 year old strap on a .44 magnum and patrol the back 40 (acres) if you want to. As long as he stays on your land and has your permission.
  6. Basically a rock that once thrown can be retrieved without you having to leave your position and can be thrown again.
  7. How do you figure? Seems like most of the stories related here people have mentioned being surprised because it wasn't who/what the expected mainly because they weren't paranoid. The story where the guy got the knife, if I didn't have a firearm, that's what I would have done at 2:00am. Even if the guy says there has been an accident etc....I wouldn't open the door, but would call the law or whoever needed to be called.
  8. I have wondered about that myself, especially since it seem the manager at the main branch says he is not going to post a sign, unless asked. Of course I'm sure he's been asked by now. Anybody know and Jackson Library board members?
  9. Oh I agree that this is a good place for info, especially when references are sited, just meant at the end of the day each person has to decided for themselves based on all information received from all sources. You'll get a lot further if you at least act like your are unsure (even if your aren't) and that you based your actions on what you found in the T.C.A. and/or AG opinion. Even if the LEO doesn't agree (at the time) his liable to give you the benefit of the doubt at the time.
  10. Welcome....
  11. FWIW my mother bought a handgun and gave it to me when I was 18, but that has been several years ago. Guess you can look at my info and do the math if you want. Another clue might be she bought it at Wal-Mart ....and as Mars says Buying and Possessing are two different things.
  12. I could be wrong...and that has seemed to be a trend lately, but I think it is two different things. One I think there is a bill (in the federal legislature) that would specifically allow carry in National Parks regardless of state law. The other is the person in charge of National Parks is proposing to change their regulations to allow carry based on state law. Sort of as compromise I guess. The first a law would allow carry in all National parks, but the second a regulations change would still cause carry to be prohibited in National parks in some states, like TN.
  13. Thank you for your post. Want to train someone as a paralegal?
  14. IMO Yes, based on the two laws I posted. That and $10 will get you a latte at Starbucks.
  15. Well I guess I'm still not sure what you are asking or what you mean by "posses" but he couldn't any location where he would have to have a HCP to be able to carry.
  16. 39-17-1319 says it is illegal for a "juvenile" to posses a handgun. It defines a juvenile as someone under the age of 18. Can also look at 39-17-1320 which uses the same definition for juvenile.
  17. True, taking the spring with you would make it inoperable for immediate use (just as some have taken their ammo with them when having to leave their gun in their vehicle) but if someone was taking it for later use or resale getting a new spring would not be that hard.
  18. You are right molonlabetn. We really don't know exactly what was asked....and if the reported did, that doesn't mean they would have printed it exactly they way it was asked. The manager very well could have asked what to do to keep guns out. I also apologize to strickj, I know he was kidding and he and I have poked fun at each other before. I'm not sure why, but I have let this get under my skin a little. Not sure why, I don't really go to the library and if I did it wouldn't be in Jackson, but for some reason I had to, I'd just go to the main branch. But it has just hit me wrong all the same. Maybe I've just recovered from all the hits that have come our way from Nashville lately....
  19. Those are legitimate concerns and should be addressed. But I have to think there is some middle ground that would allow those with a HCP to carry in the park and address the above concerns. As you say there are apparently some guns being carried in the park already. Is the shooting of "threating" animals a problem now. Also isn't someone allowed to defend themselves from an attacking animal in any location and despite any "protected" status of the animal if they are in true fear of their life? But I do grant that after the fact it would be hard to prove or disprove if one was truly in fear.
  20. Two other threads already started and merged. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6494
  21. Ummm...I thought most of the time a post to this board was an invite for the opinions of all members of the board. If mine aren't welcome I can simply lurk unless specifically addressed.
  22. You know in my frustration at the HCP holder asking the manager....I forgot to mention the Jackson PD's hand in this. From reading he article the Library manager simply called the PD to ask what the law is. So instead of tell her there is no law that prevents carry in a library they tell her to put up a sign! Why didn't they just tell her what the law is, why do LEO's all so often feel the need to give their opinion when not asked for?! Maybe some of you want to ask Chief Staples why his Dept is anti carry. I'm afraid I would end up saying something that would get me barred from Jackson....not that I go to Mini-Memphis that often anyway. http://www.cityofjackson.net/departments/police/index.html
  23. There is a picture of the sing in the article, but it's not clear enough to make out. But it looks like it has a whole lot more wording than "no guns" If was to guess they just looked up 39-17-1359 and copied and pasted it into a sign. But I agree...WHY would you ask.... It is so hard to believe the amount of people that come out of a HCP class and don't know where they can and can not carry. Anyway.....:wall:
  24. Here is a good document to check about federal laws. http://handgunlaw.us/documents/FedRestrict.pdf
  25. Don't want to turn an Airport thread into a post office thread.....but post office's have long been a debate. I don't have it all in front of me, but there is something somewhere that actually says a post office is not federal property, so they sign you see in most post offices about not carrying on federal property is correct, but you aren't on federal property. As far as banks there is no law against carry in banks in TN. Unless the bank has a sign posted. Also from your post it appears that you may think that carry on any government owned property is illegal. That is also incorrect. There is no law that prohibits the carry on all government owned property. The only law that prevents carry that mentions government property is the one that prevents carry in parks, civic centers etc....that are owned by the government.
