  1. Someone was shooting there on two days this past week. I heard audible gunfire in the distance while sitting through the mess that's Farm rd. and Walnut Grove. It took me by surprise since I was positive it was inop. There were vehicles visible and people in the bays. The cars did not appear to be LEO or UC LEO. If they were gov't cars it was something the Marshals would be driving. I got sort of excited for a moment. It would take some research and lobbying, but with the increase in personal protection by the general population it would not be difficult to show them that they are missing out on real revenue by keeping the venue closed. The problem of course though is that you have what basically amounts to two dem. leaning municipal governments involved AND a 'guns are the enemy; vegetables are the future' not for profit who oversee Shelby Farms. Dirt bikes will never be allowed in the woods there again, and guns will never be welcome again. What needs to happen is a legitimate competitor to MSSA be opened. Where we hope to be living on the other side of the state, there's four real shooting clubs within a reasonable driving range. None of them have dues over $125, and there's no steep first year fee. If Hyundai was the only automobile manufacturer in the country do you think they'd still be cheap?
  2. Technically the jewelers wouldn't even need an HCP. Either an owner, or an employee charged by the owner with protection of property can carry in the place of business. Having said that, there's a level of deterrence to having a uniformed guard on site, which does help to thwart the criminal element. Also, even if they don't like to admit it or not, many patrons can be put off by the presence of a firearm on a sales person. Sheep like sheep.
  3. I was at the Carmike at North Gate Mall in Hixson and did not see a single gunbuster, or any verbage at all related to firearms. However, I do recall there being an issue there in the past, as well as an email correspondence that stated they had a no firearm policy. Does anyone know if something changed?
  4. Thanks for the info! Seems like a great deal, I'll have to think about picking one of these up.
  5. Quick hijack: Thanks for posting that link to Tac2. I'd not heard of that place. We're moving to JC over the summer most likely and I'm thrilled about the number of gun clubs there are. We've got one in Memphis, and it's $640 you're first year and $240 a year after that. I just can't justify swinging that kind of $. I mean, for almost the same money a year you could join Unaka, Tac2 and Cherokee and still not have the $400 initiation fee.
  6. To be honest, I think it's just who has the most recent design as to who's leading the market. The big point for the Taurus was the fact that it has a last round hold open. Which is nice, and is my biggest complaint about the LCP. My initial reaction is to try and clear a F2F before actually thinking about a mag change (I can't count when I'm shooting.) For readers of the earlier post, the LCP does have a slide stop, so it can be locked open. Trekbike was referring to last round hold open. I only bring this up because I do have a pocket pistol that does not have a slide stop at all. If anyone is familiar with early .380s, the LCP is head and shoulders above anything produced 25 yrs ago. I do like the TCP for the better sight picture, and their trigger guard does have a better design, but I'd doubt the actual recoil is much different than a LCP or 3AT. Being fair, I haven't shot one yet, but I'd have to believe it's perceived recoil. Any light gun of this size in .380's going to be somewhat violent. If you are in the market for a pocket pistol also check out the new S&W Bodyguard 380. The price is only slightly higher than the LCP or TCP and it has a laser integrated into the frame. It's also got blade sights comparable to a traditional pistol. IMHO, the laser's more valuable than sights on any of these guns. I regard these as point shooters, and suggest training accordingly. The LCP is my every day carry gun in a desantis nemesis pocket holster. If you carry this way, expect to do some spot cleaning on a weekly basis. You'll get lint in the barrel, trigger, hammer opening and have to oil the outside of the chamber/ejection port/ (whatever the proper term is). I have let the LCP get about a months worth of dirt on it and then spent some time with it on the range. I've yet to have a malfunction out of this gun clean or dirty. Next purchase for this gun is a SofTuck holster. It should help with the lint issue, and I'll be able to put my keys in my pocket again. If I could carry a duty pistol every day I would, but if you have to wear a suit or shirt and slacks it at least gives you a defense option without making the sheep (and HR) nervous. Sorry for the long post.
