  3. Sorry, my comment was not directed to you and I hadn't even read your post before I posted. It was to the general idea of redistribution of wealth. If you are having problems paying your bills, it's most likely due to the recent inflation and that is your governments fault. Ayn Rands ideas were fairly basic and I would bet a donut you never read the book.
  4. and Atlas just shrugged... How many people should I be forced at gunpoint to support? The harder I work, the more it should be? If I have an hourly job that I choose to work as much overtime as I can and have no private life, should I have to support even more people I don't know? It's called property rights. My time is my property and the government has no business taking my time and giving it to someone else. As far as the karate kid goes, I would argue it's far easier than people think to be successful. It's amazing to me how little effort I see people put into stuff and how far they get. It just takes desire and lack of feeling like a victim. Sure you can bust your ass, but if you allow yourself to be victimized, you tend to not recognize and/or take advantage of opportunities. Fear of everything, victimization, laziness, tv and the multi-national corporate person are America's biggest problems. Everyone wants their money for nothing and their chicks for free.

  10. My experience was similar to Jamie's. In fact, I called and asked how I was supposed to get my bike down to take the test and the nice female DL person stated "just ride it on down. We won't ask how you got here." I am pretty sure the test is if you can make it to the DL location to take the test, they figure you can pass. The driving test consisted of driving across hwy 30, doing a u-turn, stopping at the stop sign across the street and finally driving back into the parking lot, of the old Athens location. It really appears that they really only care about the written part.

  13. The only thing that came from the Bill of Rights were more words for the lawyers to bend. The enumeration of powers does not give the government the ability to restrict god given rights of individuals.
  14. The Constitution is a restriction of government, not a grant of rights. Every time I hear about losing one of my rights, it is the Bill of Rights that is referred to, not the original articles of the Constitution.

Why for instance, should it be said, that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed? I will not contend that such a provision would confer a regulating power; but it is evident that it would furnish, to men disposed to usurp, a plausible pretence for claiming that power. They might urge with a semblance of reason, that the constitution ought not to be charged with the absurdity of providing against the abuse of an authority, which was not given, and that the provision against restraining the liberty of the press afforded a clear implication, that a power to prescribe proper regulations concerning it, was intended to be vested in the national government. He knew exactly what would happen.

IMO, these two qoutes sum up what Atlas Shrugged is about: "I swear by my life, and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine" "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."

  23. Perhaps the question should be, was the constitution rendered moot with the passage of two amendments without a quorum (or perhaps under duress)? Did the 13th/14th amendment free slaves or did it make everyone a slave of the Federal government and responsible for it's debt without question. Thirteenth Amendment Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.[2] Fourteenth Amendment Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. Section 2. Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability. Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void. Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
  24. DM Bullard makes fine belts that are well worth the wait. I also have a c5leather belt that is not near as nice, but functions as it should.
