  1. I already have four but there's always another one I'd like to have. Maybe one with "Gallatin, TN" stamped on it. :)
  2. I have one of these Beretta Bobcat model 21a in .22lr on the way to my FFL. Can't wait. http://www.berettaus...odel-21-bobcat/
  3. Beretta Sphinx Arms Taurus
  4. Welcome to the forum, JoySpice

Why on earth not? Don't want to appear as openly racist as everyone else?
  6. Sorry, I haven't be on the forum in a while. As far as my own experience my little Sphinx has been very solid.
  7. I have also been away from this forum for a while and wanted to check in. I cannot carry at work but I will while running to Kroger, Wally World, etc. I have a variety of choices and will usually carry in an owb holster on my belt. For those quick runs I grab either my .380 Beretta 84FS or Sphinx AT .380M. Sometimes I have just stuck the Sphinx in my pocket. I will also have my Beretta 92FS (9mm) or Beretta 8045F (45cal) if on the road. (I love my Beretta's. ) Don't get me wrong I have shot and would really like to own a plethora of different brands but since I am not independently wealthy I have to pick and choose.
  8. I don't own a huge number of handguns compared to most of you, but I have shot many brands and flavors and all I know is my Beretta 92FS is the smoothest racking, shooting, cleaning, and accurate handgun I have ever used.
  9. Absolutely! Don't purchase anything without shooting it first.
  10. If you are close to Camden Shooters Sporting Goods has lots of ammo, including .380, 9mm, 45, and more. I was passing through yesterday and stopped out of curiosity. I purchased a holster and two 50 round boxes of .380 @ $18.95 each. They have several brands and box sizes of the .380. I haven't seen that much in one place for about two years.
  11. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the tips.
  12. I talked my father into letting me clean his WWII Ithica Gun Co. 1911 because it hasn't been cleaned in probably 25 or 30 years. I have broken it down and have plenty of Hoppe's. Everything is pretty gunked up and nasty so I feel I should let the parts soak for a while. My question is how long should they soak?
  13. Not necessarily only for new shooters. I have seen LEOs shooting there on several of my trips.
  14. I go there because it is close and cheap and they have free targets if I forget mine. I've seen all the RSO's and the (real) old codger is more annoying to me because I hear his strange opinions about people's guns. Guns he's probably never shot and doesn't know what he's talking about. The only time I talked to Jenny was when she saw me using an UpLula and stopped by to show me the one she had as we discussed how wonderful they are. Once, when I was new, I had small targets and was putting two on the target holder. An RSO just told me not to put up two targets at a time and that was that. No biggie. I've also swapped handguns with someone beside me right under their noses and they didn't say anything. We didn't even lock the slides back, just handed the gun and a mag to each other with the barrel pointing down.
  15. I've been meaning to ask if it is a PITA to go to the restroom when you wear the belly band?
  16. If I had the opportunity to choose I'd probably get JHP, but due to scarcity and price I use whatever I can get that doesn't make me take out a loan.
  17. I agree the MFers deserve a special place in hell. I loathe cruelty to animals and IMO do not ever get the punishment they deserve, just slaps on the wrist. Geez, they should get more just because it is a police or military animal. This kind of thing just makes me so friggin' angry!
  18. I cannot carry on my person most of the time so I carry this: Gun Purse 7082. I didn't buy it at this site because it was too expensive but it does show more pictures of the purse than other sites. I paid $40 several months ago at a site that appears to no longer exist. But I see this site Concealed Weapon Purses has the 7082 at a comparable price. I really like this purse. It is tough leather and has lots of compartments and zippers. The gun compartment is on the side and very handy. The strap is adjustable and will definitely go around the body nicely allowing access to the compartment. I can fit my .45cal, 9mm, or either of my two .380's securely. Mine is brown but I am seriously thinking about getting the same purse in black. And here are some more ideas: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/29472-man-purse.html
  19. Thanks for the information! The guy that sold me the gun has several Sphinxes and gave me the same information as yours above. I think the importer in Virginia and Sphinx are about to wrap up negotiations and sign a distribution agreement so Helmie may definitely be a solid contact here soon.

    Turkeys

Last summer a turkey lived in my back yard for about three months. He/she/it chased birds away from the bird bath and pretty much bullied them and the squirrels. But I haven't seen it since August. I guess it found it's way back to Four Corners by the Percy Priest lake...or was someone's dinner, although I don't think hunting is legal around here.
  21. I finally took my little precious to the range yesterday. The recoil is similar to my Cheetah but once I shot for a bit I settled in to an easy rhythm and it felt good in my hand. I love this gun! I wanted to shoot more but didn't want to shoot all my .380, after all. My Cheetah may be jealous but I still love them both. Do you know if they have a contact here for parts? I think there is a distributor in Canada but they may or may not still be.
  22. I bought it from a Beretta forum member. Thanks all for the nice comments. I hope to take it to a range soon, very soon.
  23. I've seen only one woman carrying open. It was in a restaurant and she was a small woman dressed in a suit with a big Glock on her hip. I and my co-workers assumed she was a detective. We'll never know for sure, of course.
  24. Yes! She should shoot as many brands/calibers as she can before making a decision. She may wind up liking a small gun or a 45 or something in between. I know a woman whose neighborhood had an "incident" happen, attempted break-in or something and ran out the next day and bought a revolver. That's a great idea but she had never shot a gun before the purchase and still hasn't shot the one she just bought. I urged her to take her gun to a range and sent her several web links for information (rules of gun handling, etc.) but I don't think she's done it yet. My boss and I even offered to take her to the range, but she's not ready, I guess.
