G19. Price, reliability, availability, marketability. All excellent. Purchase price is well within the budget you listed. You can get your money back out of a Glock if you don't overpay when you buy it. Lots of police trade-ins available on the G17 if you don't mind a larger size weapon. Magazines are plentiful and available in larger sizes. You can get one anywhere and they are the Energizer Bunny of handguns. No matter what you do to one, they just keep going and going and going.. As always, go rent at a gun range or borrow from a friend - you need to shoot every one of your selections before you buy and discover what weapon is best for you. That's the best advice I can offer.

Crossbreed Supertuck Springfield XD Sub Compact
Glock30 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Mine was ordered 12/27 and arrived today (a day after Kamikaze in both cases) in the mail. I am VERY impressed. If it can make a G30 disappear and be forgotten, it will do the same for any weapon out there. I'd recommend one of these to anyone. -

Shot it through my ARs, no issues.

Two words: PUBLIC SERVICE. This particular piece of public service is something I wish every county would offer.

To the OP: Unequivocally, YES. Timing may be an issue, but if all goes according to plan, it's gonna be a bad day to be a BG.

+1. GREAT with a G26 or G19!

A LOT of that depends on what weapon you're carrying and choice of clothing. What's your carry weapon? I voted OWB, as that is my personal choice about 90% of the time.

I use a Blackhawk 3 point sling. After I got the weapon placed where I wanted it, I just used some electrical tape to secure the extra strapping to itself and keep it from coming undone. The price for the sling wasn't bad and it keeps the weapon close to the body for easy target acquisition.

That's quite handy and a nice reference for new shooters.. thanks for doing that.

+1. I did the exact same thing in the spring and refuse to go to Illinois for that very reason. 40 minutes of inconvenience FAR outweighs the consequences.

Obviously, I recommend a Glock. You need to handle a subcompact, compact, and a full size (G17/19/26 in 9mm; 22/23/27 in .40; 21/30/36 in .45 ACP) to see what feels best and fits your hand best. Also, your choice of carry style and holster type will have a minor role to play in handgun. I'll give you three guesses as to what I carry; that being said, check out the Short Frames if the .45 suits your palette. I have larger hands, but the SF is perfect, whereas the standard frame was only "good". Lastly, as many others have said, you can buy aftermarket parts and accessories 'til your heart is content for a Glock. If you didn't know already, Glock magazines are interchangeable inside of calibers (except for the G36). You can go up in magazine size, but not down - i.e. the G26 can use 10 round, 15 round, 17 round, or for when feeling insecure (and going to Memphis!), the 33 round magazine. My first was not a Glock, but I soon wished I'd spent a little more on the first go-round. Bottom line: look around, kick the tires, rent/borrow and fire away.. see what suits YOUR needs best. Make sure that your choice of caliber has plenty of practice ammo available and that an excellent self-defense round is available. Happy shooting!

As much as I'd like to say the 36, I picked the 17.

Now that's quite a few rounds...

Some states limit the magazine capacity, but it's not a limit, per se, on how many rounds YOU can carry. -
Just paying ahead..

I'm open to suggestions and not opposed to spending up to $100 to get the right one. I just don't want to buy something I see online, try it, and not like it. I don't have a lot of stocking dealers in holsters nearby, otherwise I'd check them out already.

I carry OWB a lot and like doing so. Lately, I've wanted to carry IWB a lot more... I've used fairly cheap IWB holsters in the past, but they don't have the comfort or features that a model-specific holster offers. I'd like the advice of G30 owners, especially those who use it for EDC, on what your experience has been and why. Thanks!

Beautiful grips! Nothing like brownie points with the new father in law

My first carry weapon was a G27. I now own a G30 and a G30SF. The recoil of a .45 on said weapons is considerably less felt and more enjoyable in a G30. The G27 always left my hand sore after 50 rounds or so. If you want a Glock .40, go with a G22.. recoil is nowhere near as bad. My advice is to go rent both or borrow both and see what's right for YOU! Other considerations in the small Glock category - the 26 and the 36. I've owned or do own all sizes in 9mm, .40, and .45 ACP - the G30SF is my personal favorite as EDC, followed by the 26.

For me, carrying a weapon is as much a state of mind as much as it is a state of readiness. Before I started carrying, I looked at what me and those with me were doing. I ignored everyone else. Since I started carrying, I look at everyone and wonder what they're up to. While the odds of a critical incident happening are low, I'm not going to be unable to respond and defend myself and other innocents.

Prepare to look at the world and the people in it differently, forever.

So sorry to hear that. I grew up with a cat when I was a kid and was without one until about six months ago. Few months later, I saved a stray and gave it to my sister... needless to say, I love cats and hate to see one put down. Hopefully, you'll find a new friend soon!

Fair question: If you are without your physical driver's license, is it illegal to drive? (I believe it's called driving without a license.) Here's why I ask: Could the guy just go to the DMV and report his id "lost" and have another copy made? Does the cop taking the driver's physical driver's license automatically construe a revoked license? Just where are the boundaries? I'm hoping either the LEOs or perhaps expert counsel can clarify.
