  1. Ran across this. No big surprises. Food for thought. http://www.ipsos-na.com/news-polls/pressrelease.aspx?id=5586
  2. My first (and still my favorite) was a Doublestar built by a TGOer. I built all the others I have and really enjoy the whole build process. I build for the hobby/enjoyment value, not so much because of financial reasons.
  3. Nice work! Is the design original or did you follow a template?
  4. Best way to know your weapon is to build it. I'm not mechanically inclined and had no trouble putting a lower together after following step-by-step instructions online. You also have the advantage of building exactly what you want and know the exact quality of what is within. You can produce a quality weapon for a reasonable price and still have funds left for optics, ammo, etc.
  5. Nice set! I must warn you, AR-15s are the gun world's equivalent of a rabbit. Mine just keep giving birth...
  6. G26/19/17, depending on what I feel like; usually in a Crossbreed Supertuck, but occasionally OC in a Fobus or Blackhawk. G19/G17: 127 grain +p+ Winchester Ranger T-Series G26: 115 grain +p Winchester PDX1 I'd carry +p+ in the G26, but it won't cycle reliably.
  7. Depends on your needs. Check out sites like Bud's Gun Shop, as they carry a decent selection and have good service. If you're just looking for a plinker, they have several in the $700 range. My first (and favorite) AR was a Doublestar - Bud's runs them at $669.. between that and shipping, you'll be OTD around $700, with plenty of room left for ammo and targets. Check the sale ads here too. There's usually a couple on the market.
  8. Tactical toilet paper rolls.... for all those emergencies in the field! Great stuff
  9. Yep, I think the charges should stick. Had the altercation been immediately behind the door he shot into, some degree of murder or manslaughter might have been the alternative.
  10. Situational awareness. Everywhere. All the time. No other way to be.
  11. Nice presentation features, but I don't think there's anything we just HAVE to have. Locking or even editing our own thread title (i.e. edit "WTS: Item Name - $1,000,000" to "SPF: Item Name - $1,000,000") would be a huge plus. It would also be really nice to know an item is SPF or sold just by seeing the updated title. I really enjoy TGO. Thanks for doing such a great job and for caring enough to seek our input.
  12. Encouraging. Is that portion of the law going to be struck, or does this require a complete re-write of the law? Does it invalidate the law outright for now? Hopefully this ruling can used as a precedent to nudge other states (namely, New England area) to have a more reasonable permit process.
  13. Here's what appears to be the man in question: http://www.myspartan.../police2011.pdf Very last page. As he is listed as a sheriff's department employee and styled as "officer" and not "deputy", that would indicate a jailer/corrections officer.
  14. I used a G26 for EDC for a while. Thought there was some kind of advantage over a G19. Then I discovered the extra half-inch length/height for the G19 wasn't a big deal. The real plus is an extra 5 rounds of magazine capacity. I agree with David, the G19 is analogue to the 1911 of past generations.
  15. That was my first and still my favorite. Really a good weapon for the money.
  16. Apparently since it uses bullets and not ammunition, it's some new powderless, cartridge-less weapon that we don't know about yet.
  17. I think that Romney will get more votes as an anti-Obama candidate, as opposed to outright pro-Romney support. I'm afraid we're going to see the same type of phenomena that got Bush re-elected: Kerry was an anti-Bush as opposed to the "best" the Democrats had to offer. Don't get me wrong, I voted for Bush in '04. What I'm getting at is that Kerry wasn't terribly exciting to the Democratic base and didn't drive people to go vote. Romney has the potential to do the same to the Republican vote.
  18. Personal responsibility - something most lawyers and certainly a former ADA should know all about. She must have learned firearm responsibility by watching tv and movies... where else do people shoot a round in the air to make an offender stop in their tracks? A fool and her weapon are soon parted.
  19. Headstamp pics will go a long way to myth busted/ myth confirmed. I wager there's a reason they are not present.
  20. In other words, keep it on your person. Just where it was intended to be.
  21. I'm less concerned with the world ending than I am with some troublemakers acting like it is.
  22. Unloaded ones, too. Read my lips: no handguns in NYC. Period. Much less NY State.
